After being caught for the second time since yesterday, when I tried to escape again, Gu Yan’s behavior continued to surprise me.

The amusement park was bustling with people, mostly parents with children or young couples in love.

Gu Yan and I were quite an odd pair in this lively and cheerful place. I was dressed in a hoodie and jeans, while he was in a custom-made suit, making us stand out even more.

“Are you really sure you want to stay and play with me?” I couldn’t help but ask him again.

Just about twenty minutes ago, under Gu Yan’s questioning gaze, I reluctantly suggested coming to the amusement park, hoping he would be dissuaded. But to my surprise, he brought me here without hesitation.

“Why? Have I ever lied to you?” Gu Yan asked calmly, looking at me.

“No, of course not,” I instinctively replied.

“Then why don’t you trust me?” His eyes were calm, but his words carried a deeper meaning.

I suddenly felt a bit guilty and couldn’t meet his gaze, staring at the ground instead. Even though the surroundings were lively, it felt like a stalemate had formed between us.

Just as I was wondering what to do next, Gu Yan suddenly asked, “What do you want to try first?”

I looked up in surprise. Was Gu Yan compromising with me?

Since yesterday, Gu Yan had made several concessions. But why? Why was he doing all of this?

With a head full of confusion, I got on the merry-go-round. Gu Yan stood outside, watching me intently as the ride circled past him.

Next to me, a girl was laughing sweetly at her boyfriend. Somehow, their happiness spread to me, and I felt a small sense of joy rise inside.

Because of my pregnancy, I avoided all the dangerous rides and stuck to the children’s ones. I thought Gu Yan would grow impatient, but instead, he patiently waited with me in line and played these childish games, which seemed out of place for someone of his status.

After getting off the Ferris wheel, Gu Yan handed me a sausage.

“Where did you get this?” I asked, surprised.

“I had Ah Mu buy it.”

Ah Mu was one of his bodyguards who always accompanied him. When we entered the park, I hadn’t seen him, so I assumed he wasn’t here today. It seemed there were probably a lot of Gu Yan’s bodyguards hidden around us.

Trying to escape unnoticed in this crowd was impossible.

“But didn’t you say these sausages were unhygienic?” I remembered once I had a terrible cold, and after days of bland food, I craved a sausage, but Gu Yan wouldn’t let me eat it. I still held some resentment over that.

“Back then, you were still sick, and it wasn’t suitable for you to eat those things.”

He brought the sausage closer to my mouth, and without thinking, I took a bite.

“Is it good?” Gu Yan asked.

“Yeah!” I nodded, delighted.

The amusement park sausage was really delicious. After playing for so long, I was starting to get hungry, and that bite hit the spot. I grabbed the sausage from Gu Yan and quickly finished it in a few bites.

Then I looked at him with hopeful eyes.

“I want another one.”

Gu Yan sighed helplessly, and I tugged on his arm, pleading, “I’m hungry…”

“You…” He sighed again, then gestured for someone nearby.

Five minutes later, I happily munched on another hot sausage.

After finishing the second one, Gu Yan spoke before I could ask for more. “You can eat something else, just no more sausages.”

I could tell he was already compromising, so I didn’t push further. There were plenty of delicious things in the amusement park, so I pulled Gu Yan along, visiting every stall we could.

Of course, while I was eating, I didn’t forget to offer him some too. At first, I thought he wouldn’t eat, but when I held a curry fish ball up to his mouth, he actually took a bite.

After that, he even hinted that I should feed him more. I never expected Gu Yan to have such a down-to-earth side.

“Are you happy?” Gu Yan suddenly asked after we left the amusement park and got into the car.

I was momentarily stunned and didn’t respond immediately. After a brief pause, I hurriedly answered, “Yes, very happy.”

He must have been asking if I enjoyed the amusement park, right?

“As long as you want to, you can come here anytime,” Gu Yan said, his expression serious as he looked at me.

His words left me flustered, and my mind began to spin. What exactly was Gu Yan trying to do?

Luckily, just as I was struggling with how to respond, his phone rang.

I sighed with relief, but Gu Yan frowned.

He glanced at the caller ID before answering.

“Hello.”

Whatever the person on the other end said, Gu Yan only replied with a simple “Hmm,” before hanging up.

He turned to me and said, “I need to go to Heaven on Earth for a bit.”

Heaven on Earth was a well-known high-end club in the city. It was a place Gu Yan often went to for meetings or socializing with his friends.

Was he telling me his schedule?

I was just about to tell him to go ahead without worrying about me, but before I could say anything, Gu Yan added, “You’re coming with me.”

“Uh, I…”

I was trying to come up with a reason to refuse, but Gu Yan gave me a look, and the words got stuck in my throat.

When we arrived at Heaven on Earth, Gu Yan kept holding my hand from the moment we got out of the car.

As we reached the private room door, I tugged at his hand.

Gu Yan turned, looking at me in confusion.

I pointed to his hand holding mine. “Aren’t you going to let go?”

I had always remembered that to Gu Yan, I was just his “canary.” Holding hands wasn’t really his style. I wanted to remind him, so he wouldn’t be mocked by his friends later.

Unexpectedly, my words seemed to hit a nerve with Gu Yan.
