The Sweetest Poison: Innocence with Deadly Consequences Chapter 13

Chapter 13 The Timid Home Tutoring of the Profligate Evil Young Master

“Hello?” Pei Yao sat on the sofa, his hand stroking back and forth on Luo Yan’s thigh.

He had no expression, listening to what the person on the other end of the phone was saying.

Luo Yan watched TV, hearing words like “for a while,” “come out to play,” “gathering,” and so on. She glanced at Pei Yao, thinking that the call was probably from his friends.

Pei Yao responded to the person on the phone and finally said, “Okay.”

He hung up the phone and saw Luo Yan’s straight gaze, like a little cat. Pei Yao’s heart softened, and he raised his hand to pat her furry head.

“Unfortunately, darling, you’re not feeling well yet, otherwise, I would have taken you to meet my friends.” He sighed.

“What’s the matter?” Luo Yan heard Pei Yao say this and felt a hint of curiosity.

“It’s nothing major, just a small gathering of a few friends.”

“Oh.” Luo Yan obediently nodded and didn’t ask further.

Pei Yao felt somewhat annoyed. He actually wanted to say, “It doesn’t matter whether you come or not. Isn’t it nice to stay at home with your wife?”

But as a prominent figure in Haicheng’s social circle, Pei Yao had been absent for too long. His friends were eagerly inviting him, and for the sake of social etiquette, he had to show his face; otherwise, it wouldn’t look good.

Touching Luo Yan’s face, Pei Yao softly instructed her, “Be good at home, if you’re hungry, go to the kitchen and find the chef, don’t cook for yourself. If you’re tired, go lie down on my bed and cover yourself with the blanket. If you’re bored of watching TV, play some games. You know the password to turn on the computer.”

Listening to Pei Yao’s incessant instructions, Luo Yan quietly pinched her earlobe, thinking that Pei Yao was talking more and more. She wasn’t a child, but she felt sweet inside. She voluntarily raised her head and kissed Pei Yao’s chin, leaving him stunned.

Luo Yan’s lips curved into a cute smile that said, “You talk a lot, but I’m happy.” She hugged Pei Yao’s arm and rubbed against it, saying, “I know, you should go now, come back early.”

Pei Yao was thrown off guard by Luo Yan’s unintentional coquettishness, wishing to pull her to the bed for some intimacy. He embraced Luo Yan’s waist, lifted her chin, and deeply kissed her pink lips.

“Mmm…” Luo Yan was kissed lightly, pushing Pei Yao’s shoulder, intermittently saying, “I, I haven’t recovered from my cold yet, Pei Yao… don’t keep kissing me, you’ll get infected…”

Pei Yao let go of Luo Yan, his forehead against hers, facing each other, their eyes intertwined. Pei Yao’s tone was confident, “Your husband is in great shape, he won’t easily get infected by you, little sick cat.”

“Ah.”

Luo Yan’s eyes were full of disagreement. She felt that Pei Yao had significant issues in both lifestyle habits and health concepts.

But Pei Yao was domineering, stubborn, and always full of confidence. Luo Yan sighed inwardly, realizing she had to take more care of him.

In a sense, Luo Yan’s concerns were later proven and manifested.

As Pei Yao left, Luo Yan stood at the door waving to him. Pei Yao blew her a kiss, then drove off in his car, disappearing in a flash.

Twisting her clothes, Luo Yan sneezed, standing under the noon sun. She squinted at the blue sky with flowing clouds, feeling her breath much smoother than in the room.

Perhaps she also needed to go out for a walk, Luo Yan thought.

Pei Yao had once boasted to her, saying that the flowers in his family’s backyard bloomed brightly.

Let’s go take a look, Luo Yan thought. If there are beautiful flowers, she could pick some to give to Pei Yao.

Luo Yan originally wanted to go to the backyard alone, but the maid followed her at this moment.

Seeing the silent figure following behind her, Luo Yan felt some confusion. After all, they had no usual interaction, and Luo Yan was quite capable of tidying up the house herself, not needing the maid’s help.

She just wanted to go see the garden; did she really need someone to take care of her for that? Fidgeting with her clothes, Luo Yan felt a bit uneasy.

Seeing the caution in Luo Yan’s eyes, the maid forced a smile.

“Miss Luo,” the maid chose a very respectful title, even though Luo Yan didn’t think of herself as any kind of “miss” figure.

“Are you wanting to see the garden?” the maid asked.

Luo Yan nodded, smiling at the maid, a gesture of fear of troubling others and trying to be friendly.

The maid grabbed Luo Yan’s arm.

Looking around and seeing nobody noticing them, the maid took a deep breath and decided to whisper, “Miss Luo, the flowers in the backyard have recently been replanted. Let me take you to the back mountain to have a look. The scenery there is also very nice.”

“The back mountain?” Luo Yan felt a bit hesitant. Although the Pei family’s house was built halfway up the mountain, there was a vast area of forest behind, with lush trees and green grass, meeting the rich people’s pursuit of greenery and natural beauty.

But thinking of Pei Yao’s instructions for her to stay at home, Luo Yan instinctively shook her head.

She felt she shouldn’t wander around aimlessly. If she really wanted to have fun, she could wait for Pei Yao to come back so they could go together. Going alone might cause trouble for others and be impolite.

However, the maid insisted. Seeing Luo Yan shaking her head, the maid’s grip on her arm tightened, as if trying to pull her up. While pulling, the maid continued persuading Luo Yan, “It’s okay, Master Pei Yao used to go there often for inspiration. Have you seen some photos in Master Pei Yao’s room? Oh, those are the ones he took there.”

Hearing the maid’s words, Luo Yan recalled the photo album lying horizontally in Pei Yao’s bookcase, indeed filled with many natural landscape photos.

So she stopped resisting—Luo Yan wasn’t someone who liked to refuse others’ requests. Moreover, as the maid guided her, she sincerely said, “The air there is fresh, which is beneficial for Miss Luo’s recovery. I hope Miss Luo can enjoy herself without any constraints.” These words touched Luo Yan, appreciating the maid’s care.

After all, others’ goodwill is a precious thing that should be cherished.

They walked a considerable distance, climbed some slopes, passed through many forests, and even skirted around a small stream.

The maid walked at a steady pace, as if she wanted to show Luo Yan the natural scenery here. As they walked, she chatted with Luo Yan, sharing some interesting stories about Pei Yao.

Luo Yan didn’t detect any hint of boasting in the maid’s tone. She was grateful that the maid was willing to spend time being her guide and was also interested in Pei Yao’s anecdotes.

Various factors, including her dulled senses due to illness, intertwined, and Luo Yan didn’t notice that their walking direction was gradually deviating from the main path and the signpost symbolizing no entry.
