Chapter 51 Extra 2 – 103’s Record of Spoiling His Wife
During the few days that Ying Nian was abroad, she wasn’t very aware of what was happening on the internet back home. Firstly, the distance and time zone difference made it difficult, and secondly, she was genuinely busy, leaving no time to keep up with it all.
She temporarily stopped contributing new material to the “YuLinran’s Absurd Daily Life.”
One day, after finishing her tasks, she finally had some free time to play on her phone. She saw a message from Xiaoxiao. Xiaoxiao said, [Your boyfriend was on SF’s official mini-show this week! Why didn’t you tell us? Everyone in the group was shocked when they saw it!]
Ying Nian was puzzled when she saw the message. Yu Linran appeared on SF’s self-produced show?
It wasn’t that she deliberately didn’t tell Xiaoxiao and the others—it was because she didn’t even know herself.
SF had a self-produced show that aired once a week. Besides the main team members, sometimes members of the youth training team would make an appearance. The thing with SF was that, unlike other teams, their main roster had stayed the same for over three years. Despite fans’ requests and management’s belief that it was necessary to add substitute players, they had yet to find any new recruits they were satisfied with.
So, for the past few years, the same five core members had been working tirelessly day and night, earning their reputation as the “Esports Iron Team.”
According to Yu Linran, the team had more or less given up on recruiting external players. Most likely, they would promote talented members from their own youth training team to the main roster.
Speaking of the show, over the years, the other four members and some of the youth trainees had made appearances, but Yu Linran had barely been on. If you counted, it wouldn’t exceed five episodes.
Upon hearing this, Ying Nian wasted no time and immediately went online to search for the episode.
Wow. The view count for this episode of SF’s self-produced video was shockingly high, and the number of comments and chat messages was equally staggering. She looked closely at the title — “103 Special Interview.”
No wonder.
Yu Linran really was unpredictable. He either didn’t appear on the show for a long time or, when he did, it was for an entire episode.
Ying Nian’s curiosity was piqued. She leaned against the headboard, clicked on the video, and started watching.
…
The champion support player, “103,” recorded the team’s episode on the sofa in SF’s training room. The simple setting slightly disappointed viewers who had been expecting a grand production, but as soon as they saw Yu Linran’s rarely seen face outside of the competition arena, their excitement began to build again.
The gray sofa was wiped exceptionally clean, but it couldn’t compare to Yu Linran. His team jacket was no different from his teammates’, yet when he wore it, it somehow looked two shades whiter.
Both sleeves were rolled up to just below his elbows, revealing his slender wrists. Despite the delicate appearance of his hands, the veins on the back and the thick calluses on his fingertips showed that they were far from fragile.
The camera was directly facing Yu Linran. His black hair just barely brushed his eyebrows, and his sharp, cold features gave off an air of intensity. Even with just an ordinary glance, the chat was already flooded with countless fangirl comments.
A staff member behind the camera, with their voice altered through a voice changer, said, “Alright, let’s have the captain introduce himself first.”
Yu Linran’s expression remained unchanged. “Hello, everyone. I’m SF’s support player, 103. I’m Yu Linran.”
The staff member asked, “Everyone knows the captain rarely participates in our recordings, but this time you’ve agreed to record a full episode. Can you tell us why? What’s the reason?”
Yu Linran’s slender fingers loosely interlocked as he lightly clasped his hands. He responded, “Because the coach asked me to.”
“No other reason besides that?”
“Because I’m getting married,” Yu Linran said. “The coach said there are a lot of questions, and it’s better to answer them all at once.”
Yu Linran had zero sense of variety show flair, as straightforward as could be. But this kind of blunt honesty was far more entertaining to fans and viewers than if he had tried to be goofy or forced a personality.
The staff member continued, picking up the topic: “Speaking of your upcoming wedding, we actually have a lot of questions for you, captain. Next, we’ll need you to answer them one by one. But there’s something special—it’s not just about answering the questions. Some of these questions come from fans, and some from your teammates. After you answer, you have to guess who asked the question. If you guess wrong, you’ll face a punishment! Are you ready?”
After all that buildup, Yu Linran responded with just one word, as calmly as ever: “Mmm.”
Knowing his personality, the staff member continued directly, “First question: How did you and your girlfriend meet, Captain?”
Yu Linran didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stared intently at the camera—or rather, at the staff behind the camera.
“There’s something I need to correct.”
“Huh?”
“She’s not my girlfriend,” he corrected seriously. “She’s my fiancée.”
After making his correction, Yu Linran finally answered, “We met by chance.”
“Uh, isn’t that a bit too vague?”
“No.”
“…”
What the captain says, goes. The staff member, submitting to his authority, silently accepted the answer without further protest.
“Alright then. Now, Captain, please guess—did this question come from a fan or a team member? If it’s a team member, which one?”
Without hesitation, Yu Linran replied, “A fan.”
“Why?”
He explained, “Yi Shen knows how we met, and the others think they know how we met. So none of them would ask this question.”
The staff continued, “Second question: Does the captain like wearing accessories? It seems like we’ve never seen you wear any. If you were to wear something, what type of accessory would you choose?”
Yu Linran, in his usual calm manner, replied, “I didn’t like wearing accessories before, but now I do.”
The staff member pressed on, “Really? Can you show everyone?”
Yu Linran didn’t say anything. He slightly unzipped his jacket and pulled out a necklace from his collar. It was a woven cord with a delicate pendant. He held it out for just a second, not giving anyone a chance to clearly see it before tucking it back in and zipping up his jacket without a word.
The staff member asked, “Captain, what are you wearing?”
“A necklace.”
“We haven’t seen it before. Have you been wearing it for a long time?”
“Over a year.”
“When did you get it?”
“My fiancée gave it to me.”
The staff member marveled, “It seems the captain and his fiancée are really sweet together.”
After a pause, they added, “So, who do you think asked this question, Captain?”
“Fans,” Yu Linran said. “They’ve seen my necklace.”
By “they,” he naturally meant his teammates.
Moving on to the next question.
“Captain, what made you fall in love with your fiancée? What do you like most about her?”
For the first time in the interview, Yu Linran showed an expression. He suddenly smiled. Though the curve of his lips wasn’t deep, it was a significant contrast to his earlier demeanor.
“Because she plays games well. I like everything about her.”
Even the staff member couldn’t help but feel helpless at that response. “From what we know, it seems like the captain’s fiancée isn’t particularly skilled at gaming?”
After all, the tradition of Dragon King “beating up” his girlfriend in games during livestreams had become a staple event after every major SF victory.
“It’s not that bad,” Yu Linran blatantly lied with a straight face. “She’s decent at gaming.”
“…” Alright then, since the captain said so, if you say she’s decent, then she’s decent.
The staff member didn’t dwell on the matter and moved on. “Who do you think asked this question?”
“Fans.”
“Why?”
“Instinct.”
Interviewing Yu Linran really wasn’t an easy task.
The topic continued.
“Next question: Who is your favorite person on the team?”
“They’re all the same,” Yu Linran answered without a hint of emotion. “I like Ying Nian the most.”
“The question is about the team, excluding your fiancée.”
“Still Ying Nian.”
“Besides Miss Ying Nian?”
“Only Ying Nian.”
The staff member was at a loss. “…Who do you think asked this question, Captain?”
“Yi Shen,” he replied.
“Why?”
Yu Linran lifted his gaze and glanced at the camera, as if looking directly at Yi Shen. “Because he asked me this exact question last week, word for word.”
Staff: “…”
Asking Yu Linran questions only ended up exposing Yi Shen’s intelligence level.
Seems like the whole team was full of oddballs.
The staff continued asking the pre-selected questions, and after finally finishing that segment, they quickly moved on to the next one.
“Quick-fire questions! You have to answer within ten seconds or face a punishment,” the staff gave him a few seconds before quickly saying, “Let’s begin!”
“Favorite player?”
“Myself.”
“Player you admire the most?”
“Myself.”
“Player you most want to defeat?”
“Myself from yesterday.”
“If your girlfriend wants you to hold her while you’re gaming, what would you do? Choose between gaming or holding her?”
“Hold her while gaming.”
“What kind of music do you like?”
“The songs Ying Nian sings.”
“Favorite food?”
“The dishes Ying Nian cooks.”
“Favorite person?”
“Ying Nian.”
“What’s the thing you want to do the most?”
“Spend my life with Ying Nian.”
“…”
A perfectly normal interview was turned into a full-on love showcase by Yu Linran.
Especially with the last question.
The staff member asked, “If you could go back in time, which moment would you want to return to?”
Yu Linran’s response was:
“I don’t want to go back to the past, not to any moment. The future is what matters to me, where I can spend the rest of my life with Ying Nian. Every day from now on will be better than the last.”
…
Yu Linran’s interview ended up feeding his fans an overwhelming amount of “dog food.”
Regardless of what others thought or how they reacted, after watching the video, Ying Nian lay on her bed with her face buried in her hands for quite a while.
There were so many things she wanted to say, but after thinking it over, it felt like there was nothing more to say.
In the end, she simply sent Yu Linran a voice message.
She said, “I really miss you.”
She had forgotten what time it was back home and didn’t bother to think or calculate it.
All she knew was that the message of longing she sent quickly received a reply.
Yu Linran said, “I miss you too.”
She played the message back three times, listening to it again and again.
That simple sentence was enough.
I miss you.
I miss you too.
Ying Nian buried her face in the pillow, and her lips curving into a smile as she sighed contentedly.
She knew it. She was absolutely certain.
The rest of the words—they still had a lifetime ahead of them, plenty of time to slowly and carefully speak them, until the end of time.
