I Became a Fortune Teller in the 90s Chapter 19: Foolish

On her way home from work, Dai Qing noticed someone following her. She wasn’t scared—there were plenty of people on the street, and her house was just a ten-minute walk away.

It wasn’t until she unlocked her gate and entered the courtyard that she peeked through the crack in the door. Even though the figure was hiding in the shadows of the trees, she recognized him instantly.

The image of this man was etched into her memory from her past life. She could identify him even by his bones.

Liu Ming stood outside the closed door, rubbing his chin, his expression unreadable.

So, this is where she lives.

After taking a shower, Dai Qing went straight to bed. Maybe it was the unease caused by Liu Ming, but she dreamt of her past life, specifically when she had just gotten pregnant. She saw her mother-in-law and sister-in-law scheming together to deceive her into quitting her job.

In the dream, she stood by, watching her mother-in-law’s hypocritical face and calculating eyes. Her sister-in-law was acting sweet, calling her “dear sister-in-law” non-stop. Meanwhile, her past self lay in bed, glowing with happiness, thinking she was lucky to have such a loving in-laws.

Her past self stroked her belly and eagerly agreed to give up her job. The sight made Dai Qing seethe with anger. She desperately tried to shout warnings into her own ears, but it was futile.

With a loud thud, she woke up in anger, almost falling out of bed.

Looking at the familiar mosquito net, Dai Qing patted her chest, still feeling the suffocating frustration from the dream.

The faces of the Liu family were ones she never wanted to see again in this life.

The small alarm clock on the table pointed to 9:00 AM.

She got up, washed, made herself egg soup to calm her nerves, and started cleaning the house. She tidied up her grandfather’s room, turning it into a guest lounge, cleared the weeds from the courtyard, and boiled a pot of water to make chrysanthemum tea. Sitting under the grapevine trellis, she read a book.

For lunch, she made herself a simple meal of fried noodles with an egg on the side—nutritious and uncomplicated.

That afternoon, she worked the second shift again. After eating, she took a nap.

Ever since her rebirth, Dai Qing found the solitary life to be a blessing. Aside from the eight hours she spent working, she had plenty of time to read and sleep—truly blissful.

With enough rest, not only was she energized, but her complexion also glowed, and she felt mentally sharp.

The walk to work that evening was uneventful—no one bothered her.

However, as soon as her shift started, she noticed a young woman standing by her post, glaring at her.

The girl was wearing a hygiene cap and a white apron, typical attire for workers in the yarn-spinning section, but Dai Qing didn’t recognize her.

As soon as their eyes met, the girl marched over, arms crossed over her chest, eyes full of anger, and loudly warned, “Listen up, new girl. Stay away from Liu Ming, or I won’t be so nice next time.”

“What did you say?” Dai Qing asked, bewildered.

“Don’t play dumb with me! I’m dating Liu Ming, and if you think you can come between us, think again!”

The noise from the carding machine was too loud, so the girl, now furious, ripped off her mask and shouted even closer to her face.

“I don’t even know who you’re talking about, and I certainly have no intention of causing trouble. But now that you mention it, I have noticed someone lurking suspiciously around my post these past few days. Maybe it’s the person you’re talking about.”

Dai Qing’s gaze softened with pity. Here was another foolish girl, just like her in her previous life—wasting her energy on a man who wasn’t worth it.

“Some men are naturally unfaithful scumbags. If you’re going to date someone like that, either keep a tight rein on him or find someone more reliable. But in any case, your problem has nothing to do with me.”
