Gotham City Simulator Chapter 41

The helicopter sliced through the fog, hovering over the Gotham East District Police Station, finally choosing to land on the station’s rooftop.

Just two blocks away, one could see the MCU headquarters. MCU is located in the East District, but its duties differ from the East District’s police station; they don’t handle the same type of cases.

Clearly, Vivi’s arrival was unexpected here, but thankfully, due to a ten-minute heads-up, she wasn’t greeted with guns when she descended from the helicopter.

“I almost wish they had welcomed me with guns,” she said casually. “At least that would prove that the East District Police Station is functioning normally.”

But then again… what expectations could one have for a precinct in the East District?

The armored vehicle stopped nearby, not entering the underground garage. Vivi walked in the front, meeting the surprised gazes of those present.

Some were dozing off on the desks, only the officer on duty came over, seemingly unable to open his eyes fully, his hair wet, probably maintaining alertness with cold water.

The night wind was chilly. Vivi leaned against the conference table in the middle of the office, glancing coldly towards the door.

At that moment, the precinct captain entered.

She glanced at his bare feet, then noticed his socks around his neck, and the man seemed oblivious.

“I’m delighted to see you, Captain,” Vivi smiled at him, then turned to her escort. “Take him down.”

Captain: “?”

She clapped her hands, speaking lightly: “Congratulations, you’re fired. Enjoy your retirement in Blackgate Prison.”

She glanced at him; although he was still in his prime, there was no need to worry, he could stay in Blackgate Prison till his old age.

Vivi had already scoped out the situation using Bella’s identity. The rampant small gangs in the East District basically paid “protection fees” to the police station – not to prevent their arrest, but to be quickly released after being processed – after all, the Captain needed his achievements.

“Ma’am,” the Captain, whose name Vivi didn’t bother to remember, looked at her deeply, seemingly out of panic, “You surely can do this, but I advise you to rescind this order.”

Vivi looked at this composed man, speaking kindly, “Why? Can’t just anyone be a bribe-taking pig?”

The man’s face turned red with this insult: “No, I am maintaining stability in the East District, ma’am. You don’t understand.”

“—You might want to change things here, but turmoil only hurts the lower class more. What I am doing is right, letting the gangs fight each other, not letting them grow stronger. Ma’am, this place can’t be saved; it’s just like this.”

Vivi: “You’re right, if you were an ordinary person in the East District, a gangster, or even a nightingale, I would say you’re right.”

The man’s chest heaved with rage at her analogy.

Then, a foot kicked him down to the floor. The blonde woman looked down at him, her tone neutral, showing no emotion: “Everyone can say ‘the East District is just like this’, except for you, because they are the ones to be protected, you garbage are supposed to be the protectors.”

Vivi glanced at the head of the security department, an unremarkable man who nodded at her. It seems that the rest of the corrupt in the police station had been caught, leaving only a few minor ones.

The Captain was dragged away without any remorse, but Vivi didn’t care — she had no obligation to make NPCs with preset personalities repent; she just needed them to face justice, by any means.

Those people were pushed onto the vehicle; in fact, the security forces came not to carry weapons — these vehicles were all for transporting prisoners.

But Vivi, gazing at the deep blue sky, doubted that even if all available transport vehicles were brought over, it would be impossible to carry away all the criminals from this sin-laden district.

Yes, she didn’t bring weapons —

Vivi pressed the communicator: “How’s the SWAT team doing now?”

She didn’t need any weapons, because her other two armed forces were operating in the East District. The snipers sent earlier occupied high positions, constantly observing their movements, and also under their guns were the gang leaders.

“Currently, the SWAT team has been stopped by Nightwing, but some of their members have dispersed into Crime Alley…”

“They are investigating a derelict building at the end of the Boiler District, twelve o’clock position. Batman is fighting an enemy there; the enemy was thrown down the building but quickly recovered. Others in the building opened fire but still couldn’t defeat the enemy. There’s only one enemy… Do you need support?”

The one in the derelict building was naturally Talon, sent by the Owl Court to assassinate the Violinist and others. Vivi speculated from the report that Batman must have noticed Talon while patrolling at night, followed him covertly, and stopped him before he could kill.

—So now, they were stuck in a tough fight against an indestructible enemy.

According to Vivi’s understanding of Batman, he should be able to find Talon’s weakness, but that would interfere with her plan. She signaled the head of the security department to lead a team with freeze guns and freezers to deal with Talon, while the rest, as per her instructions, took advantage of the chaos in the East District to capture the gangsters.

“And… if you encounter SWAT personnel, arrest them too,” Vivi shrugged. “If they show their IDs, just say you can’t verify their authenticity and detain them temporarily.”

Since SWAT had already completed their “task,” they were of no further value in the mayor’s eyes.

—Spending a night locked up wouldn’t hurt.

With such a deployment of personnel, not many were left to protect the mayor at the police station. The map showed red dots like a flickering starry sky or a restless school of fish. Vivi could tell that tonight’s battle had stirred up the entire district… They were anxious and unsure whether to stay behind closed doors or seize the opportunity for chaos. Gradually, some red dots started fleeing to other districts—clearly, they had heard about the Security Bureau’s arrests. But soon, they would return to the East District, the perfect breeding ground for crime.

Vivi licked her lips.

Since things were already chaotic tonight, why not add a bit more to the mix?

She entered the former captain’s office, locked the door, and signaled that no one should disturb her—

Minutes later, a policewoman on a motorcycle appeared on the streets.

Vivi, now in her Bella persona, pulled down her windscreen to cover her eyes.

“Good thing I packed enough special handcuffs in my bag…”

She squinted, scanning the nearest points on the map, then revved the motorcycle.

Speed surged instantly, and the howling wind tossed behind her. The large tree in Crime Alley flickered like a lighthouse, illuminating the panicked faces of everyone around, amidst gunshots and explosions, the roar of a powerful motorcycle was faintly heard.

Vivi weaved through the streets. Some gang members, in a rush to escape, had left their weapons behind—simple to hide and then leave. Well, she wasn’t going to be polite.

Without guns or money, the crime rate could drop by at least eighty percent.

All the criminals rolled over by her wheels were knocked out by Vivi and handcuffed to nearby public facilities. Eventually, in a rush to make her rounds, she even drove her motorcycle onto the rooftops of houses.

Honestly—

This was exhilarating!

“Considering this game lets you experience role-playing, combat, parkour, strategy, management… among other gameplay styles,” she opened her mouth, eating a mouthful of gunpowder-laden wind, not at all dissatisfied, even letting out a light, pleased laugh, “—I’ll endure the difficult infrastructure building for now.”

Her motorcycle “clanged” as it landed on the rooftop. This high spot, about ten meters above the ground, gave her a view of the pale white dawn light slowly rising from the horizon. She then turned to the map—

The red dot named Killer Croc was running through the streets.

The chaos in the East District had startled Killer Croc out from underground. The ground collapsed during the fight, hitting him and igniting his rage—so much for driving tanks in the city!

Vivi turned the bike around, and then—

She and her motorcycle suddenly soared into the air, accelerating mid-flight, landing precisely on another building’s rooftop. She braced herself on the ground, in a way that would have broken ordinary people’s bones, using the recoil to stand the bike up again, then accelerated once more on the rear wheel.

Thank goodness for her recently upgraded LV3 motorcycle driving skills!

But surely, Killer Croc himself wouldn’t be thankful for all this—transformed into a half-man, half-crocodile monster in an experiment, he had gained skin impervious to gunfire and unparalleled strength.

Feeble humans would break under his casual limb strikes, and bullets couldn’t pierce his armor-like skin.

He was constantly furious!

So, quenching his rage with human blood didn’t seem too bad—

Just as he thought this, a pure black motorcycle fell from the sky, rolling over him with high-speed force all the way to the wall. Before he could react, someone with dual guns fired at close range. To protect his eyes and mouth, he closed them… Killer Croc heard a woman lightly, softly “tsk.”

Such an attack couldn’t seriously harm him. He roared, pushing the motorcycle off him. The woman gracefully flipped backward, stepping on the wall to return to the undamaged motorcycle and rode it around in a half-circle.

The last thing Killer Croc saw was the woman letting go of the handlebars, sending the motorcycle straight at him. Then, in a moment of defiant non-evasion, the motorcycle exploded, engulfing him in a fiery wave.

Vivi clapped her hands. Although the motorcycle would explode, it could always be summoned again. She scanned the surrounding people and said, “If he’s not dead, fish him out and send him to Blackgate Prison.”

But he surely couldn’t escape being seriously wounded.

She noticed the vigilantes’ dots rapidly approaching. Dawn was breaking—

Vivi looked up, locking eyes momentarily with Batman on a distant high-rise, with Nightwing appearing beside him. She blinked, and the next second, they vanished.

The helicopter landed again, the wind ruffling her disheveled black hair.

Vivi understood: this was finally… the dust settling.

At that moment, the paramilitary police from the Security Department dragged the unconscious, severely injured Killer Croc out of the rubble and asked, “Excuse me, you are…?”

Oh… they weren’t familiar with Bella. Vivi nodded and announced her new position: “Hello, I’m the newly appointed deputy warden of Blackgate Prison.”

Security: “?”

Was managing a prison this difficult now?

Did you have to personally catch a criminal when you first took office? Could this be the legendary… rite of passage?
