Chapter 24: A Conversation
The house was a matter for the future, for now, Lin Xiangnan could only live in this twenty-square-meter small house.
The original house was two rooms, a total of over fifty square meters, now Liu Laohei and Hu Meili each had a room, the per capita living area was actually similar to before.
Hu Meili’s divorce was a big deal, after dinner that night, the whole Hu family came to help pack things.
“Let’s use wooden boards to separate your two rooms first. You can sleep here for now, I’ll go find some wooden boards for you tomorrow.” Hu Laodie said.
Hu Meili agreed, “We need to separate first. In case something happens, they’ll fight again.”
Thinking that she had to go to work tomorrow and her face hadn’t healed yet, Hu Meili felt embarrassed.
Lin Xiangnan and Lin Xiangxi were students, they weren’t as busy as Hu Meili, so they could take leave without any worries, they followed Hu Laodie to find lumber and old bricks, adding partitions to the house.
Liu Hongying and the others were also busy cleaning up the house, but both sides were busy with their own things, they didn’t even exchange a few words.
Their relationship had become estranged, but the aunties in the courtyard didn’t think so, whenever something happened to the Liu family, they would run to them for gossip.
Lin Xiangnan had just come back from outside, an auntie in the courtyard waved to her.
”Xiao Nan ,come here, come here and eat some pumpkin seeds.”
Lin Xiangnan really thought she was invited to eat something, she just grabbed a handful of pumpkin seeds, the auntie mysteriously asked, “Did your sister Hongying find a new boyfriend?”
“No way, I don’t know.” Lin Xiangnan cracked a pumpkin seed and commented, “It’s roasted very fragrant.”
“When your Aunt Liu came back, she saw her holding hands with a man, she’s probably found a new boyfriend. You have a good relationship with her, why don’t you ask her?”
The auntie then flatteringly gave her a small handful of pumpkin seeds.
Lin Xiangnan shook her head, “I’m not going to. If you want to ask, ask yourself.”
Just as they were talking, the auntie suddenly stopped talking, Lin Xiangnan turned her head and saw Liu Hongying come back with red eyes.
The auntie immediately asked loudly, “Hongying, didn’t you go to collect firewood? Why did you come back empty-handed?”
Liu Hongying just thought they were making fun of her, she glared at them and went straight back to her room to close the door.
“What’s wrong? Did you provoke her again?” The auntie nudged Lin Xiangnan with her elbow, she curiously said, “She doesn’t look right.”
“It’s not my fault, I haven’t spoken to her for days.”
Lin Xiangnan was about to leave with her pumpkin seeds when another auntie came over, she started talking without being asked.
“She was just harassed by a little hoodlum. You two are still there asking cluelessly, who else would you glare at?”
“See, I told you it wasn’t my fault.” Lin Xiangnan shrugged, she cracked pumpkin seeds and went back to her room.
Otherwise, the aunties would change the topic to her later, and she would be in trouble.
Lin Xiangnan didn’t have anything in common with these aunties, but as soon as Hu Meili came back from work, she started chatting with them.
Knowing that Liu Hongying had been defeated, Hu Meili was in high spirits, her voice was full of energy.
But her spirits didn’t last long, Hu Meili became listless again. The people from the neighborhood committee started visiting each household to talk to them.
Middle school was about to graduate, parents should start thinking about their children going to the countryside, don’t wait until the last minute and still be clueless.
Lin Xiangnan was also among those who were supposed to go to the countryside, Hu Meili wanted to keep her, so she had to be persuaded.
