Children have excellent memories. Adults and kids should treat each other fairly.
Yu Mingxi’s words couldn’t have been clearer—he wanted Yu Jinxiao to properly apologize to Yuanyuan.
The little one meant no harm and didn’t bring up anything hurtful on purpose. But Yu Jinxiao had, in fact, been harsh with her.
He thought that when the little one curled up at the end of his bed last night, it was a sign she had forgiven him. But now, it seemed… that wasn’t quite the case.
Yu Jinxiao felt a headache coming on—he wasn’t used to dealing with situations like this. His two sons were obedient and sensible, rarely getting upset. Even if they did, a night’s sleep usually fixed everything.
But this approach didn’t seem to work with Yuanyuan. She had her own peculiar ways of thinking that no one else could predict.
Despite usually trailing behind her brothers, Yuanyuan felt unsure today. She had wanted to send them off like she always did. But every time she thought of her father’s angry outburst, fear crept back in, draining her energy.
After everyone left, the house returned to its quiet, empty state, with only the sounds of the maids bustling about. Yuanyuan sat alone on the floor of her room, lost in thought.
She had gone to her father last night to make up, hadn’t she? Yet, this morning, he still seemed cold and distant. Was he still mad at her?
“Petty, petty daddy,” Yuanyuan pouted, smacking the page of her coloring book with a little paw.
But as soon as she finished venting, she remembered what Yu Mingxi had said about their father’s past.
The little baby girl had been killed by bad people seeking revenge against their father.
Daddy would never get to see his baby again.
Never…
Never…
Forever…
Despite being so young, Yuanyuan had an uncanny ability to put herself in others’ shoes. She imagined her own family in that situation.
What if she could never see her daddy, mommy, or brothers again?
Her little heart clenched at the thought, and before she knew it, she was crying loudly, her tears flowing uncontrollably.
She had already snuck out of her own world to find her father, who had been stuck in this book world, enduring trials without returning. She couldn’t bear being separated from him, let alone the idea of never seeing him again.
For Yuanyuan, “separation” was the heaviest burden imaginable—something that could utterly crush her small frame.
Her initial frustration over her father’s coldness dissolved as she realized how much she pitied him.
But how could she make things right with her father?
Yuanyuan stared at the sunlight streaming through the window, deep in thought.
She rarely did things to deliberately win others over. Whatever she did, it came from her heart.
But now, making daddy happy and fixing things between them seemed like a bit of a challenge!
Her little brows furrowed as she tried to think hard, her eyes darting around the room.
Finally, her gaze landed on a big box of snacks sitting on a shelf.
These were treasures gifted to her by Uncle Gao, her brothers, Aunt Chen, and Uncle Yang. She always saved them, only treating herself to one on rare occasions. They were her precious stash!
A painful idea popped into her head.
With a grimace, Yuanyuan awkwardly dragged the box down from the shelf and gently touched each snack inside. “Goodbye, my little darlings…”
She whimpered as she picked out her favorite grape-flavored gummies, savoring a piece before sighing heavily.
After that, she pulled all the snacks out of the box and carried them, one by one, to the doorway of Yu Jinxiao’s bedroom.
These were all her most cherished treats. Surely, giving them to daddy would make him happy, right?
