Chapter 5: “A Marriage Was Arranged for You”
Yan Bing, who had also been easily subdued by Tang Zhishu, never expected this woman to be so strong. Her face turned icy as she glared at Feng Zhisu and coldly said, “You’ll regret this.”
Tang Zhishu raised an eyebrow and smiled casually, replying, “I’m just teaching you all a lesson. If you’re lack of ability, don’t rush into things and become cannon fodder. Otherwise, you won’t even know how you ended up dead.”
Hearing this, Yan Bing fell silent, her icy eyes fixed on Tang Zhishu.
Tang Zhishu turned to the two maids and asked, “Are you more afraid of them or of Yan Kui?”
As expected, after hearing this, the two maids reluctantly went to get two ropes.
When Tang Zhishu received the ropes, she quickly tied Yan Bing and Yan Luo to chairs.
“You wicked woman! I won’t let you get away with this. I’m going to tell my cousin everything you’ve done to me and my sister, and he definitely won’t let you off!” Yan Luo, bound to the chair, struggled and glared at Tang Zhishu, cursing her.
Yan Bing, also tied to a chair, stared coldly at Tang Zhishu with her sharp, icy gaze.
Tang Zhishu clapped her hands and smiled in satisfaction, adjusting her loosely tied bathrobe.
Facing Yan Luo’s furious expression, she smiled indifferently and lazily said, “Hmm, make sure to be more exaggerate when you tell him.”
Tang Zhishu yawned lazily and said to the two maids, “Untie them in an hour.”
With that, she strutted upstairs with a playful step.
Finally, she had let out the frustration she’d been holding in, and even her steps felt lighter.
Downstairs, Yan Luo’s angry voice could still be heard.
As she continued to curse, Tang Zhishu eventually heard her start to cry.
After crying for a while, Yan Luo resumed her cursing.
…
A sleek, luxurious Lincoln slowly drove into a grand and heavily guarded estate.
After a while, the car came. Ah Ming got out of the driver’s seat and opened the door for Yan Kui.
A pair of long legs elegantly stepped out.
The man had a cold and noble demeanor. His tall, distinguished figure was dressed in a black suit, with a black trench coat over it. His skin was pale as snow, his face strikingly handsome, his thin lips cool and unyielding, and his dark eyes piercingly cold, striking fear deep into one’s soul.
Soon, Yan Kui arrived outside a room.
Butler Tan, who had been waiting, hurried over with a smile when he saw Yan Kui. “Young Master, you’re finally back. The Old Master has been waiting for you for a long time.”
Yan Kui’s cold gaze fell on him as he asked lightly, “Uncle Tan, what’s so urgent with Grandfather?”
Butler Tan sighed and replied, “Young Master, you may not know, but since you’ve been away, the Old Master’s health has been getting worse day by day. The doctor said if we want his condition to improve, he needs to be happy every day. And you know, Young Master, what he wishes for most is to hold his great-grandson before he passes…”
Hearing this, Yan Kui frowned slightly.
He stared at Butler Tan with a deep, unreadable look. “Uncle Tan, are you sure Grandfather didn’t ask you to say this on purpose?”
Exposed so bluntly, Butler Tan’s face showed a trace of embarrassment.
“As for Grandfather being bedridden, that’s probably an act too, right?” Yan Kui’s cold expression softened slightly with a hint of helplessness.
Butler Tan awkwardly chuckled, clearly flustered. Suddenly, as if remembering something, he quickly said, “Ah, Young Master, I just remembered I need to instruct the servants to tend to the garden. I’ll be going now, the Old Master is waiting for you. You should go in.”
With that, the seventy-year-old butler hurriedly slipped away.
Yan Kui raised his hand and rubbed his forehead, his expression showing a bit of exasperation.
Meanwhile, Yan Yuhen, who had been eavesdropping with his ear pressed to the door since Yan Kui arrived, quickly sprinted back to bed as soon as he heard his grandson approaching.
A moment later, the bedroom door opened, and Yan Kui walked in.
As he entered, he heard his grandfather letting out soft groans of pain.
Even though he knew it was all an act, Yan Kui still frowned.
He walked over, his tall, upright figure settling into a chair beside the bed. He looked at his grandfather, whose aged face wore a pained expression.
“Grandfather, where are you feeling unwell?” Yan Kui pressed his thin lips together, playing along as he asked with concern.
At that moment, Yan Yuhen acted as if he had just noticed his grandson. Slowly opening his cloudy eyes, he looked at Yan Kui weakly and said, “Grandson, so you’ve come back… Cough, cough… Grandfather’s fine, just getting old, not many days left. It’s just… I have one regret. I won’t be able to see you get married and have children…”
Yan Kui: “…”
Seeing his grandson stay silent, Yan Yuhen continued weakly, sighing, “Ah, I know you’re not interested in settling down, but you’re not getting any younger. Someday, you’ll need a woman to take care of you. If I’d known earlier that you weren’t interested in other women, I would’ve introduced you to that fiancée I arranged for you years ago. At least then, you wouldn’t be alone.”
Hearing this, Yan Kui frowned. “Fiancée?”
Yan Yuhen had only been expressing his inner thoughts, but when he heard his grandson’s question, he immediately sensed an opportunity.
Feigning a few coughs, he weakly replied, “That’s right. I never told you, but I arranged a marriage for you years ago. But after what happened back then, I knew you were hurting, so I didn’t bring it up. Now, so many years have passed. That girl must be around 22 by now. I don’t know if she’s already married.”
Hearing this, a dark glint flashed in Yan Kui’s cold, handsome eyes, and he squinted slightly.
Just as the old man thought his grandson was displeased, Yan Kui pulled two identical jade bracelets from his pocket.
“Grandfather, is the marriage you mentioned related to these two jade bracelets?” Yan Kui asked, staring at him.
As soon as Yan Yuhen saw the two jade bracelets, he abruptly sat up in bed.
Not only that, the man who had been feigning illness moments ago quickly got out of bed, his eyes wide as he stared at the bracelets in Yan Kui’s hand.
He exclaimed in shock, “Grandson, where did you get the other jade bracelet?”
Yan Kui didn’t answer. Instead, he continued to stare at his shocked grandfather and asked again, “Grandfather, is the marriage you mentioned connected to these two jade bracelets?”
