BDB Chapter 16
Jiang Rao’s sleep was actually not shallow, but after she had transmigrated into the body of this female lead with the same name and surname yet different identity, her body’s sensitivity had intensified several times over.
She felt dizzy and disoriented, and something was rubbing against her face. The rubbing was not gentle; it felt as if someone was trying to scrape something off her face, causing her entire face to gradually ache with a dull sting.
Finally, after what felt like the umpteenth time her cheek had been subjected to that rough friction, she suddenly opened her eyes.
When first waking up, everything was blurry, and Jiang Rao was no exception. It was only after blinking several times that the blur began to solidify, ultimately forming into a tangible outline in her vision.
This outline was one she had seen countless times in her dreams. She was still a bit confused, unable to distinguish between dream and reality, but when her gaze met the man’s obsessive eyes, she understood; this was tonight’s dream.
Their eyes locked.
Neither of them spoke.
Jiang Rao remained silent because she had nothing to say to the male lead. In this nightmare, she was always a spectator; even though she was using the female lead’s body, she could not control the female lead’s consciousness or actions.
Li Jueyan did not speak because…
When she opened her damp eyes and stared at him, his internal defenses had already collapsed.
They had met many times in dreams, but those were all fake.
In those dreams, he could touch her, feel her, but when he opened his eyes again, she was nowhere to be found.
His fingertips grazed her cheek, and his obsession grew even stronger.
Jiang Rao felt a bit annoyed.
What was with this nightmare today? Had her illness caused the characters in her dream to move more slowly?
With her fever-induced daze, she was completely disoriented. She blurted out whatever came to mind, “What do you want to…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a shadow covered her vision, followed by a slightly damp sensation on her lips.
Even though she was used to being taken advantage of in dreams, Jiang Rao still wanted to kick him, hit him, and get rid of him.
No matter how impressive their wealth might be, a male lead who has terrible kissing skills and was prone to violent outbursts while showering affection on the female lead was simply unacceptable!
It was clear that it wasn’t his first time kissing her, so why did he have to grip her chin? Why did he have to bite her lip?
Why did even a kiss have to be painful?
The next moment, he suddenly stopped, breathing heavily with his hands propped on the pillow, looking at her.
She heard him say, “You’re very beautiful.”
Jiang Rao’s heart skipped a beat. She was too familiar with these words. He had complimented her only once before, and that time made her first define him as a perverted person because of a dream.
His fingertips glided over her lips again, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear, “Even your hair looks so good.”
The outside was pitch black, while the overhead light was bright.
Jiang Rao recalled that night when he had been so forceful with her. Being kissed was one thing—she could just think of it as being nibbled by a dog—but to be touched again…
“Crash!”
She grabbed whatever was nearby, feeling a slight sting on the back of her hand, but it was enough to grab a round, heavy object. With her adrenaline surging, she didn’t hesitate and threw the heavy object at his head.
Blood almost instantly seeped from his hairline. She saw him freeze, and the tight string in her heart relaxed immediately. At that moment, her body, which had been holding on for so long, finally gave out. Her vision darkened, and she lost consciousness once again.
Blood was hot, but it could not warm Li Jueyan’s cold heart. Her delicate neck was right beside his hand; with a simple squeeze, a vibrant life could be extinguished forever.
No one would trouble him, whether because of his power or because she was merely an untraceable impostor.
However, as he looked at her stunning face, every inch of it was shaped in a way that stirred his heart.
He remained silent for a while, a slight smile curving his lips.
He thought.
He had searched for her for so long; he might as well let her live a little longer.
With such a sharp temperament, it was fine. Once he figured out what that strange nightmare was all about and once he encountered another woman in this vast world who could make his heart flutter, he would soon grow tired of her.
Very soon.
…
Jiang Rao woke up amidst a spinning headache.
In the early morning light, she looked up at the old clock opposite her bed.
With her vision still blurry, she took some time to confirm that it was already past nine. However, strangely, she didn’t feel refreshed from a full night’s sleep. Instead, her head ached as if she had stayed up working for several nights straight. Her cheeks and lips also felt slightly sore.
At that moment, she noticed yellowish stains on the edge of her pillow.
She stared blankly for a moment, then touched her cheek with her hand. The sticky feeling told her she had removed her makeup, and it seemed to have been quite a thorough job.
Sure enough, when she pulled back the blanket and hurried to the bathroom to stand in front of the clear floor-to-ceiling mirror, she saw her face with smudged, shiny foundation and panda-like eye makeup. She realized she must have forgotten to spray a setting spray on her face before going to sleep.
But this should also confirm that everything from last night was indeed a dream.
After all, no man would say “You’re so beautiful” when faced with such a face.
But what was with her hand? Why was it wrapped in such thick bandages?
Butler Gu provided the explanation. “I stayed in your room last night. You suddenly started talking in your sleep and managed to pull out the IV drip. During that time, you accidentally injured your hand, so I wrapped it up for you.”
This answer seemed plausible, but her sixth sense made Jiang Rao slightly suspicious. “Really?”
“Really.”
There was some truth to this explanation, but it wasn’t the whole story.
What Butler Gu did not mention was:
After you pulled out the IV drip, you directly threw the nearly empty IV bottle at President Li’s head.
He ended up with a head full of blood, and you, having pulled out the needle too quickly, had blood on your hand.
Although Butler Gu was dressed in professional attire and appeared quite unapproachable, the reality was that her work ethic and interpersonal skills were impeccable.
Jiang Rao believed her and felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m sorry that my makeup looked so terrible when I woke up. It must have been quite a sight for you.”
Butler Gu’s expression became slightly unnatural. “Not at all.”
The messy makeup was done according to Young Master Li’s instructions. With decades of professional experience, Butler Gu had expertly created the ‘half-removed, slightly smudged’ look Young Master wanted.
In fact, Madam’s bare face was extremely beautiful, one of the most stunning she had ever seen in her lifetime.
It was almost eleven o’clock now.
After chatting with Butler Gu, Jiang Rao sat in the dining room, looking at the menu presented by the kitchen.
Her head still ached a bit, but as they say, food is crucial for recovery.
At that moment, she saw Butler Gu suddenly hurry to the door and open both doors on either side.
When Butler Gu, holding a walkie-talkie, approached Jiang Rao, Jiang Rao stopped her. “What’s going on?”
Such a grand opening of the doors?
“Young Master Li is moving back here in a few days. Since there are many valuable items, we need to start moving things into the old residence today.”
