BDB Chapter 49
In the entertainment industry, Feng Ke, though a director of art films, had to cater to the whims of wealthy business tycoons.
Hearing the request, he first mentally apologized to Jiang Rao and then put on a wry smile, “Of course, of course, President Li, please have a seat here.”
He signaled to the assistant director beside him to get up and vacate the seat.
The assistant director was good at reading the room and recognized who this big shot was—someone whose wealth and power would make anyone in the business world tremble.
Unfortunately, though he moved quickly, the big shot didn’t head in his direction but instead walked towards the person who had just been the center of the commotion a moment ago.
Feng Ke and the assistant director exchanged a glance. Then, he hurriedly shot a look at the production assistant sitting right next to Jiang Rao, blinking so much that he was practically tearing up. The production assistant finally understood what they meant.
Thus, the big shot smoothly sat down in the spot that pleased him.
Li Jueyan shifted his gaze away from the person beside him, who sat with a straight back and eyes forward, then smiled and said, “Where are we now? Everyone, don’t hold back, keep going.”
The crowd felt it would be great to continue, but at the same time thought, ‘But big boss, with so many burly bodyguards surrounding us, it feels like we’re in a spy movie. Who can still have fun like this?’
They all moved in the same circle, and everyone in the entertainment industry was well aware of which big shots had assets worth over a 100 million, 1 billion, or even 10 billions. Hearing this, although many felt awkward, they couldn’t help but give the big shot face, so someone took the lead and shouted, “Give him a kiss, give him a kiss!”
Another person called out, “A hug, a hug!”
The leading actors of art films might be selected by some commercially-minded directors for their popularity to boost box office sales, but the supporting roles in art films were all played by exceptionally skilled actors.
Before long, the atmosphere was once again restored to its previous lively state by these actors.
Li Jueyan, however, interrupted with a disapproving tone, “I think kissing and hugging aren’t really appropriate.”
He surveyed the crowd and continued, “She’s so beautiful; whether it’s a kiss or a hug, it’s the men who benefit. If her future husband found out about today, he might silence the one who kissed her and break the legs of the one who hugged her. As for all of you who cheered, you’d probably end up in disgrace. What do you all think?”
His meaning was clearly not a joke. Out of the corner of her eye, Jiang Rao caught sight of a few girls from the props team sitting not far from her, their fingers tightly clenched together by their cheeks, wearing an utterly infatuated expression.
Seeing this, she couldn’t help but turn her gaze to the man who was seriously threatening others, and then she heard him say, “So for everyone’s mental and physical health, let her choose truth or dare. What do you think?”
What could the others think?
Of course, it was—“Young Master Li is right!” “This idea from President Li is truly good!” “President Li, you’re our honored guest; why don’t you ask?”
The flattery and sycophantic postures were all the same.
Yet some people were quite rude, “Miss Jiang, what kind of man do you like?” he asked.
In that moment they turned to face each other, their eyes meeting.
Jiang Rao replied, “As long as he’s taller than me.”
Li Jueyan pressed his lips together. He stood at least 1.8 or 1.9 meters tall, a whole head above her.
“As long as his financial situation has no debts.”
Although the Li Group had plenty of debts, that money wasn’t what they wanted to owe; it was the banks that insisted on lending them money without wanting it back.
Even so, if he used his personal assets to pay off those debts, the remaining money still amounted to billions.
“As long as he looks pleasant enough.”
His looks were far more than just pleasant.
“But he must respect me, be considerate of me, not force me, not cling to me, not be domineering, and not smoke or drink.”
After saying this, Jiang Rao pressed her lips together and said, “Director, I have a shoot early tomorrow morning. It’s getting late, so I want to go back and get some sleep.”
Su He had drunk quite a bit earlier. Although she was older, she was afraid of the dark. Since no one had suggested leaving, she didn’t want to ruin the mood for others, but now that this younger girl she quite liked was planning to leave, she said, “Director, I have a regular lifestyle and prioritize health. I also want to go back and sleep.”
Feng Ke thought to himself, what are you making a fuss about, big sister! I was hoping to create an opportunity for the big boss to be alone with someone!
But he had no excuse to stop Su He from leaving.
Seeing that the big boss across from him was deep in thought and didn’t seem to have much of a reaction, he could only nod.
The moon was bright, and the stars were sparse, while the sky was dazzling.
The road back was indeed not easy to navigate, with uneven flowers and grass on both sides and towering trees reaching into the clouds.
But it was an extremely beautiful scene.
The moonlight spilled over the girl’s face, making her fair complexion glow as if illuminated from within. Su He couldn’t help but exclaim, “Is President Li here looking for you? Were those words you just said meant for him? I thought so! Such an outstanding little young lady like you—how come I’ve never seen you holding your phone, turning down those persistent suitors? Turns out someone has been shielding you from them!”
Jiang Rao paused for a moment, “Huh?”
Su He continued, “Since he arrived there, he hasn’t glanced at any other woman. Don’t think he only stared at you for a moment from behind; I was watching. When he was looking ahead, his gaze was clearly unfocused, and he was keeping an eye on you with his peripheral vision.”
“Did the two of you have a quarrel? That’s okay; girls should be a bit tough. But don’t be too stubborn; a heart is only one, and if it gets stabbed too many times, no one is a masochist, right? By the time you truly hurt someone’s feelings, it would be too late to regret it. Of course, don’t overly compromise yourself. If you really don’t want to forgive him, then stand your ground.”
Chuckling, Su He continued, “But I see there’s still him in your eyes.”
The male and female actors in the crew were separated, with each gender staying in different farmhouses.
After all, with a financial sponsor around, the director wasn’t stingy with the rent money. So even though there was a lack of water and electricity, and no internet, everyone still had their own private rooms.
After washing up, Su He quickly fell into a deep sleep. Jiang Rao felt a bit drowsy too and decided to go to the bathroom before going to bed. However, as she opened the courtyard door and took a step outside, she saw the man sitting on a boulder in the courtyard.
At that moment, the man’s expression was dazed, holding a cigar in one hand, not smoking it, just allowing the ember to come into contact with the air, slowly burning away.
As if he noticed her gaze, the man slowly turned to look at her. After a moment, his dark eyes finally found focus. He flicked the cigar to the ground and walked toward her, brushing off his hands.
“Jiang Rao, you don’t like men who smoke?”
“Mm.”
It was rare for her to answer his question so sincerely right after he spoke.
Her tone was soft, and her expression wasn’t the usual frown of someone deeply troubled.
His throat moved slightly, and his clenched fist relaxed to a flat position.
After a while, he finally couldn’t help but raise his hand to ruffle her hair gently. “Jiang Rao, I’m quitting smoking for you.”
