The Secret Behind the Veil Chapter 9

Chapter 9: “This Jade Bracelet Is Important to You?”

Yan Kui turned around, his pitch-black, cold eyes seeming to see right through everything.

Under his gaze, Tang Zhishu felt an odd sensation, as if he could clearly tell what she was secretly planning.

“What kind of request?” Yan Kui asked, a smile on his lips, but his eyes remained icy.

Tang Zhishu cleared her throat and said, “You can’t just keep me locked up here without any company; that would be so boring.”

Yan Kui raised an eyebrow. “So?”

“So, I want someone to talk to. Your cousin was pretty cute last time, what was her name? Luo? I want her to come over and keep me company,” Tang Zhishu looked at him hopefully.

Yan Kui did not answer immediately; he simply stared at her quietly.

As he looked at her, Tang Zhishu began to feel a cold sweat on her back.

After several seconds, Yan Kui finally smiled slightly and said, “Alright, I’ll have someone bring her over.”

Tang Zhishu’s eyes lit up. “When?”

Yan Kui raised an eyebrow. “So eager?”

Tang Zhishu chuckled awkwardly. “Not in a hurry.”

Yan Kui glanced at her. “She’ll be here in half an hour.”

Upon hearing this, Tang Zhishu’s face broke into a bright smile. “Then I won’t disturb you; I’ll head out now.”

As she turned to leave, Yan Kui called out.

“Wait.”

She stiffened and turned back, maintaining her smile. “Is there anything else?”

At that moment, Yan Kui walked over to his desk, opened a drawer, and took out a jade bracelet.

“Is this yours?” he asked, staring at her.

Tang Zhishu’s expression changed as soon as she saw the bracelet in his hand. She hurried forward, reaching out to grab it.

But Yan Kui raised his hand, keeping his eyes fixed on her.

Tang Zhishu panicked. “That’s mine! Give it back to me!”

While she was curious about how the bracelet ended up with him, her priority was to get it back. After all, it was a gift from her grandfather, who had told her to take good care of it. She couldn’t afford to lose it again.

“This jade bracelet is important to you?” Yan Kui questioned.

Tang Zhishu nodded urgently. “Yes, it’s very important to me.”

“Why?” Yan Kui pressed further.

Tang Zhishu frowned, feeling anxious. All she could answer was, “Because it was given to me by my grandfather. Can you please give it back now?”

After a few seconds of staring at her, Yan Kui finally handed the bracelet back to her.

Tang Zhishu took the bracelet and immediately put it on her wrist.

Seeing her reaction, Yan Kui understood that she didn’t know what this bracelet represented.

This indicated that she was unaware of their engagement.

With this thought, Yan Kui gazed at the girl, a dangerous light flickering in his eyes.

Completely focused on the bracelet, Tang Zhishu didn’t notice the change in the man’s demeanor.

Once she confirmed that the bracelet was intact, she looked up at him. “Thank you for returning my bracelet. I won’t bother you any longer.”

As soon as her words fell, the girl hurriedly left the study, closing the door behind her with a gentle touch.

Watching her actions, Yan Kui narrowed his eyes.

He then dialed a number, calling Ah Ming.

“Go pick up Yan Luo,” he instructed.

“Understood, Young Master,” Ah Ming replied.

Before long, Ah Ming brought Yan Luo to the mansion.

When Ah Ming picked her up, Yan Luo learned from him that her cousin had summoned her, and her excitement was palpable.

As soon as she got out of the car, she dashed into the living room.

Upon entering, she spotted her cousin sitting on the sofa and Tang Zhishu beside him.

The moment she saw Tang Zhishu, a hostile expression immediately crossed her cute, doll-like face.

She approached Yan Kui, glancing warily at Tang Zhishu.

“Cousin, why did you ask me to come over?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with joy.

In Yan Luo’s heart, Yan Kui had always been her idol, a figure so sacred and untouchable that it was hard to believe he had acknowledged this “bad woman” before her.

Even after taking some time to process the revelation, she still found it hard to accept. Nevertheless, Yan Luo instinctively felt that this woman approaching her cousin had ulterior motives.

Yan Kui didn’t spare her a glance as he coolly said, “You’re staying here today to keep her company.”

Yan Luo’s heart soared at the idea of staying with her cousin, but before she could revel in the joy, his next words dampened her spirits. “But why should I chat with this bad woman?” she retorted immediately.

Tang Zhishu, who had been silent until then, chuckled and said, “Because I requested it.”

“You think you can just order me around? I don’t want to chat with a bad woman like you!” Yan Luo crossed her arms defiantly, her chubby little face puffed up with anger.

Yan Kui frowned, his voice cold. “Yan Luo, watch your attitude.”

Feeling wronged by her cousin’s reprimand, Yan Luo pouted.

Tang Zhishu gave her a smug wink.

Yan Luo’s face scrunched up in irritation.

At that moment, Yan Kui stood up, glancing at the smug Tang Zhishu, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.

“Don’t think about any tricks,” he warned, staring coldly at the girl.

Tang Zhishu smiled charmingly, giving him a flirtatious wink. “Don’t worry, I won’t leave.”

Yan Kui raised an eyebrow, studying her for a couple of seconds before striding out of the living room, with Ah Ming promptly following behind.

Once Yan Kui left, Tang Zhishu stopped munching on her seeds and walked toward Yan Luo.

Seeing the “bad woman” approaching her, memories of being bullied earlier that morning flooded back, making Yan Luo take a few steps back in fright.

“Wh-what do you want?” Yan Luo stammered, wrapping her arms around her chest, her eyes wide with fear.

Tang Zhishu noticed the girl’s frightened demeanor and slowly revealed a mischievous grin.

“What do I want? Didn’t you call me a bad woman? I’m here to show you what a bad woman really is.”

With that, she grabbed Yan Luo’s wrist and effortlessly dragged her upstairs.

In Tang Zhishu’s grasp, Yan Luo felt as powerless as a little chick, unable to resist. The previously bratty girl was now scared to tears.

“You bad woman! I’m telling Cousin, I’m telling my sister! Wuwu, sister, come save me! I’m going to die! This bad woman is definitely going to kill me! Wuwu…”

Hearing her desperate cries, Tang Zhishu couldn’t help but chuckle.

She had noticed that although Yan Luo acted spoiled and arrogant, her true nature was rather innocent, even more so than many other girls.

Feigning a fierce demeanor, Tang Zhishu said, “If you want me to spare you, you have to agree to one thing.”

Yan Luo’s big round eyes brimmed with tears as she puffed out her cheeks and glared at her, sniffling. “Bad woman, wh-what is it? I’m not going to agree to do anything bad!”
