Gu Beiyan was under constant pressure, facing a two-on-one situation throughout the game. Despite his best efforts, the lack of another capable player on his team was impossible to compensate for.
Wen Zifei had dribbled the ball all the way up to Chu Qi. Though she’d seemed unbothered before, now her eyes were fixed intently on the ball, ready to intercept. Just as she moved in for the steal, another player cut her off, giving Wen Zifei a clear path toward the goal.
With only Yu Yuanyuan left to defend the goal, both Chu Qi and Gu Beiyan had already given up hope, deciding in their hearts: Let’s try for the next point.
Wen Zifei didn’t take Yu Yuanyuan seriously. How could a soft, squishy little dumpling like her possibly stop the ball? She didn’t even look like she could run properly—more like a waddling penguin than a threat.
Approaching the goal with a smirk, Wen Zifei decided to toy with Yuanyuan, faking kicks to embarrass her. But to his surprise, the once-dazed little cub now had a gleam in her eyes. She stood completely still, laser-focused on the ball, entirely unfazed by his fake moves.
Wen Zifei had some fans in the class, cheering for him on the sidelines. Though not as many as Gu Beiyan, there were a few supporters. Just as his fan club started clapping in anticipation of a goal, their applause came to an abrupt halt.
In a sudden, unexpected leap, Yu Yuanyuan threw herself at the ball, blocking it with her belly and pinning it firmly underneath her.
The field fell silent for a few seconds, then burst into laughter.
While Yu Yuanyuan had blocked the ball, the way she flopped onto it—limbs flailing as she hit the ground—was too funny for words.
Wen Zifei, humiliated that his strong attack had been thwarted, stammered, “It’s… it’s just one ball! Next time, I’ll definitely score!”
Chu Qi and Gu Beiyan exchanged glances. Luck, right?
It had to be luck.
The game resumed, but this time Wen Zifei’s teammate took the lead. Before the ball could even get halfway, Yu Yuanyuan scampered up and intercepted it again.
Her tiny figure was just too cute. The opposing player hesitated for a second, suddenly reminded of a little penguin at the aquarium.
That brief hesitation was all it took—Yu Yuanyuan pounced on the ball again.
Wen Zifei exploded in frustration, scolding his teammate while they hung their head, too afraid to argue back.
After blocking two balls in a row, Yu Yuanyuan’s stellar defense ignited Gu Beiyan’s fighting spirit, and even the previously indifferent Chu Qi began to take the game seriously.
By the last five minutes, the score had reached 3-0.
Yu Yuanyuan’s team: 3. Wen Zifei’s team: 0.
Despite her waddling walk, Yu Yuanyuan’s reflexes at the goal were lightning-fast. She blocked every attempt with precision, leaving no gaps. No matter which angle Wen Zifei and his teammate tried to shoot from, Yu Yuanyuan was there to block the shot.
With just one minute left, Wen Zifei was sweating bullets. The pressure of losing scrambled his focus, and in a last-ditch effort, he kicked the ball hard—but it didn’t even come close to the goal.
The referee’s whistle blew, signaling the end of the match.
Wen Zifei stood frozen in disbelief, staring at the scoreboard. His fan club, too, was in shock, their hands covering their faces as they struggled to accept the outcome.
Gu Beiyan grinned triumphantly, shaking his head. “Ha! You lost! That means, starting now, you have to be Yuanyuan’s servant for a whole week!”
“I won’t!” Wen Zifei shouted, unable to contain himself.
Chu Qi’s voice dripped with sarcasm as she chimed in, “Wow, so you’re the kind of person who can’t keep a promise? What kind of future do you think you’ll have if you can’t even honor a bet? If you had won, I’m sure you’d be bossing Yuanyuan around by now.”
Everyone was watching—Teacher Qin, the other kids, his fan club, his friends, and his teammates. Wen Zifei felt his face burning with embarrassment.
Trying to salvage his pride, he suddenly remembered that Yu Yuanyuan didn’t think like other kids. Clearing his throat, and blushing deeply, he put on his best pleading face. “Yu Yuanyuan, do you really have the heart to make me be your servant?”
