When the Cold Jade Skyward Boat was placed in the River of Flames, it emitted a burst of cold, pale air.
The River of Flames paused for a moment before flowing even more fiercely. The sky-level treasure ship was shimmering with a light blue glow, as if it was fighting against the golden River of Flames. The two were evenly matched, and the flames around the ship gradually began to condense into ice, while the ship’s hull gradually turned reddish.
Mo Qiu exclaimed sternly, “This demonic sovereign’s blood is truly formidable. This ship may not last long.”
Luo Jianqing nodded in understanding and said, “Get on the ship!”
The two leapt onto the ship with lightning speed. Mo Qiu easily boarded the ship, but when Luo Jianqing approached the River of Flames, dozens of flame beasts rushed towards him. However, Luo Jianqing was prepared, and he lifted his Shuang Fu Sword, easily slicing through the beasts one by one.
With his cultivation and the River of Flames weakened by the gust of wind, he was able to easily dispatch the beasts within a minute.
When he arrived three yards away, he encountered the golden fire dragon.
The fire dragon saw Luo Jianqing and roared with laughter, “It’s you again, annoying swordsman! Come on, this time I will definitely…”
Luo Jianqing calmly swung his sword, and the Nine Lotus Swords formation directly sliced the weakened sixth-rank fire dragon in half.
“This… this is impossible…”
Luo Jianqing ignored the arrogant and haughty fire dragon and continued forward. One lazy golden qilin beast looked at it unkindly and spoke in human language: “I have no time for a lowly human like you. Go away.”
Time was running out, and Luo Jianqing didn’t pay attention to the contemptuous and rude tone. He continued forward. Just as he was about to step onto the cold jade heavenly ship, he saw a faint golden figure appear. A tall, muscular man with short hair held a giant axe and looked at him ferociously.
Luo Jianqing’s eyes narrowed. A high-level demon emperor!
As the humanoid demon beast wielding the giant axe came at him, Luo Jianqing quickly formed hand seals, ready to use his ultimate move. However, at that moment, a red light flashed from the vermilion mole between his eyebrows, causing the demon beast to hesitate. Its body then dissipated and turned into flames.
Everything happened too fast for Luo Jianqing to understand what had just happened. But he didn’t have time to think about it either. Mo Qiu had been yelling “Hurry! We don’t have much time.” So Luo Jianqing immediately flew onto the ship, and the Cold Jade Skyward Boat sped towards the exit of the flame river.
There were only two seemingly exit points in this valley: the inflow and outflow of the flame river. According to Mo Qiu, the flame river was the blood of the demon emperor of the Heavenly Realm, and what was upstream of the river was terrifying. So they both decided to go downstream. However, the biannual winds mostly came from the cave at the outflow, so their choice was a gamble, and neither of them knew what lay beyond the cave.
The cold jade heavenly ship swiftly traversed the flame river and entered the cave at a breakneck speed. As the light dimmed, they were inside the mountain, and they had no idea what lay ahead.
The cave was incredibly long, surrounded by darkness. The treasure boat continued to move forward, but after a day and a night, they still had not left the dark cavern.
Luo Jianqing furrowed his brow and asked, “Mo Qiu, do you know what’s going on here?”
Mo Qiu replied irritably, “Luo Jianqing, do you think I know everything?”
They continued to move forward, and the temperature around them became increasingly cold, but it gradually approached the normal body temperature of a human. Luo Jianqing realized that when they were in the Flame River Valley before, they had become accustomed to the scorching temperature in the valley. In fact, the temperature there was hot enough to roast a Qi refining disciple, and now what they were feeling was normal.
The small boat continued to move forward, but the temperature kept dropping.
When the temperature dropped below zero degrees, the river water beneath the boat gradually began to form ice. Luo Jianqing immediately used his sword energy to clear a path, and Mo Qiu continued to steer the treasure boat. They worked together in perfect harmony, but the temperature continued to drop. When the river water was entirely covered by ice, Luo Jianqing turned to look at Mo Qiu, who was also looking at him.
They both nodded in agreement, and then Mo Qiu put away the Cold Jade Skyward Boat, and they continued on foot.
In this unfamiliar and dark place, flying was the worst choice. While a Golden Core cultivator could fly in the air, it also made them a living target. The faster they moved, the less they were able to carefully sense the dangers around them.
Luo Jianqing had experienced this kind of situation before in his previous life, where he was chased for many years. However, what surprised him was that Mo Qiu was also so experienced and cautious.
As if hearing Luo Jianqing’s thoughts, Mo Qiu sneered, “There are more people who want to kill me than you can imagine.”
The two walked side by side, each wielding their own treasured weapon.
It seemed that the danger had passed as they only encountered frozen water. As they walked ten more miles, Luo Jianqing and Mo Qiu relaxed their guard a little. Mo Qiu teased, “This cave really is deep. We still haven’t found our way out. Who knows how long it is?”
Luo Jianqing chuckled, “Regardless of its length, as long as there is no danger, that’s all that matters.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Luo Jianqing suddenly felt a faint breeze brush past his ear. He stopped in his tracks and asked, “Mo Qiu, did you feel the wind just now?”
Mo Qiu also stopped abruptly and looked around warily before replying, “No, I didn’t.”
Their previously eased hearts were now on high alert once again. As Luo Jianqing continued walking another hundred meters, suddenly, a gentle breeze blew past his cheek, causing his black hair to flutter slightly. Luo Jianqing widened his eyes in shock and exclaimed, “There’s wind!”
As he spoke, a green sword light flew towards the direction of the wind.
The sword light was sharp and pierced into the endless darkness as if it had been swallowed up without a trace.
The danger lurking in the darkness was always more terrifying than that which was visible. Luo Jianqing and Mo Qiu were not afraid, but instead increased their speed and forged ahead. The further they went, the stronger the wind became, changing from a gentle breeze to a strong wind and then into a violent gale!
As the fierce gusts of wind raged towards them, Luo Jianqing raised his sword to resist while Mo Qiu wielded his long whip.
At first, the gusts of wind were within the range that the two could resist, but as they moved forward, the winds grew stronger and stronger. When they had walked for ten miles, a violent gust of wind pierced through Luo Jianqing’s shoulder, causing him to groan and blood to trickle from the corner of his mouth.
Mo Qiu urged, “Be careful!”
Luo Jianqing immediately took out a profound-grade defensive treasure from his storage ring and held it in front of him. The treasure was pulverized as soon as it met the gust of wind, but it managed to block some of the attack.
Mo Qiu said, “Hurry, let’s break through!”
Luo Jianqing nodded immediately.
Without hesitation, the two of them took out their best treasures and blocked the terrifying gusts of wind as they flew forward. One mile, two miles, three miles… When they saw a faint light, Luo Jianqing had already suffered four or five wounds, and Mo Qiu was no better.
The gusts of wind were now as ferocious as a full-powered strike from an out-of-body stage cultivator. Almost all of the treasures in Luo Jianqing’s storage ring were destroyed, and even Mo Qiu no longer had any treasures to use. The two of them gritted their teeth and withstood the gusts of wind, flying straight towards the entrance of the cave.
One thousand meters, one hundred meters, ten meters…
Three meters!
At this moment, a terrifying gust of wind came chasing from behind the two, and Luo Jianqing immediately increased his speed, trying to break out of the cave. However, the gust of wind unexpectedly caught onto the hem of his clothes, and its fierce aura ripped off a piece of flesh from Luo Jianqing’s back, causing him to spew out a mouthful of blood.
Bang!
“Cough cough…”
Someone kicked Luo Jianqing out of the cave entrance.
The searing pain on his back and the almost depleted spiritual power in his body made Luo Jianqing fall into a vast river uncontrollably. But he immediately turned back and shouted loudly, “Mo Qiu! Mo Qiu!”
A muffled voice came from the pitch-black cave, and Mo Qiu hoarsely said, “Don’t worry, this violent wind can’t do anything to me. I have a piece of Sky-grade magical treasure that can teleport me back…home. Luo Jianqing, my home is very far away, it may take a long time to see each other again.”
Despite the unbearable pain, Luo Jianqing shouted, “Mo Qiu, don’t lie to me. After you kicked me out of the cave just now, you’re probably about to…”
“Bullshit! I can really go, why don’t you believe me? Forget it, why waste time talking to you, I’m leaving!”
As the words fell, a blood-red light flashed from the dark cave entrance. A mysterious aura gradually spread, accompanied by the terrifying pressure unique to Sky-grade magical treasures. The red light gradually dimmed, and Luo Jianqing clearly felt that…Mo Qiu had really left.
Luo Jianqing: “…”
At first, he was speechless and twitched his mouth. But in the end, he slowly burst into laughter.
Luo Jianqing laughed wildly for a long time, until he passed out from exhaustion and drifted on the seemingly endless river, carried forward by the waves. A bright vermilion birthmark embedded in four petals of a green lotus flower was located between his eyebrows. Whenever an ignorant demon approached, the birthmark would flicker slightly and drive the demon away.
The wound on his back slowly stopped bleeding, but Luo Jianqing remained unconscious.
He had no idea how long he drifted on this river, nor did he know that he had floated all the way from the ninth level of the Liuyan Valley to the first level, and finally passed through a large and turbulent waterfall, before suddenly penetrating a pale red barrier and continuing forward.
The scenery around him gradually changed. The handsome young cultivator in a blue robe lay in the slow-flowing river with closed eyes and a pale face. From the deserted deep mountain forests to the gradually populated countryside, when an old woman washing clothes by the river suddenly saw the young man in the middle of the river, she screamed in terror, “Dead…dead person! There’s a dead person!”
When Luo Jianqing woke up, he opened his eyes to a simple and rough thatched roof.
The faint scent of rice drifted from inside the room. Luo Jianqing tried to move his fingers and then his arms. When he slowly sat up and got off the bed, he suddenly saw an old woman with white hair walking towards him, bowing her back.
The moment the old woman saw Luo Jianqing, the spoon in her hand suddenly fell to the ground. After a long time, she cautiously asked, “You…you’re awake?”
Then, Luo Jianqing learned what had happened.
This village was called Gujia Village, nestled beside a tributary of the Luo River. There were only 46 households in the village, and everyone relied on the Luo River at the village entrance to make a living. On that day, when Granny Gu went to wash clothes by the river, she suddenly saw Luo Jianqing lying in the middle of the river.
Naturally, Granny Gu thought Luo Jianqing was already dead, but the villagers who rescued him found that he was still breathing! Kind-hearted Granny Gu brought Luo Jianqing home to take care of him, and she had been taking care of him for forty days.
While serving a bowl of hot porridge to Luo Jianqing, the elderly lady with wrinkles all over her face said, “My husband went to the fields to plant rice early this morning, and he won’t be back until tonight. Jianqing, if you don’t mind, why don’t you stay with me for a while longer and rest?”
Luo Jianqing gratefully accepted the bowl of porridge and softly said, “Thank you.”
The old lady immediately waved her hand and said, “No need to thank me. You are such a handsome young man, and I can tell that you must have encountered some difficulties that caused you to lose such a large piece of flesh from your back. Although I am just a village woman, I know that you are not an ordinary person. You can even lie in the center of the river and not die! By the way, Jianqing, how old are you this year?”
After thinking for a moment, Luo Jianqing ultimately told his true age, “I am forty this year.”
The old lady immediately widened her eyes in disbelief and said, “You look like you’re only twenty years old. How can you be forty?”
Luo Jianqing smiled lightly but did not say anything.
“You’re forty, actually. If my eldest son were still alive, he would also be forty this year,” the old lady said while picking up vegetables for Luo Jianqing. “But, Jianqing, you are also an immortal, right? I heard that immortals are elegant and beautiful, just like you.”
Luo Jianqing’s movement of picking up vegetables paused for a moment, and he looked up at the kind old lady, asking, “I am not an immortal, but… have you seen an immortal before, grandma?”
The old lady nodded incessantly and said, “Yes, three years ago, an immortal suddenly appeared in my yard in the middle of the night and gave my husband and me a herb. The immortal was so beautiful. He said that my husband and I had reached the end of our lives, but the herb could extend our lives.”
Luo Jianqing’s heart trembled slightly, and he asked, “Why…did the immortal want to extend your lives?”
Grandma Gu said, “That immortal said that in the future, there will be someone…seems to be his disciple, who will come and sever some kind of fate with us. I don’t understand these things, but the immortal’s things are really good. My husband is seventy years old this year, but his body is still so good that he can go to the fields and plant rice.”
“Snap-“
The chopsticks in Luo Jianqing’s hand suddenly fell on the table.
He slowly turned his head and gazed at the old lady with wrinkles all over her face with a complex and profound look. His gaze slid past her smiling and gentle eyes, looked at the grooves of wrinkles, and finally gazed at this weathered face. Luo Jianqing pursed his lips and remained silent for a long time.
This time, Luo Jianqing stayed.
Although only thirty percent of his spiritual power had recovered and his back injury had not healed, as long as Luo Jianqing wanted to leave, he could leave at any time. However, he stayed.
That evening, Grandpa Gu returned home. Grandma Gu specially cooked a large table of dishes, making Grandpa Gu laugh helplessly and say, “Ah Qing just woke up today. How can he eat your big fish and meat? You should make something light, light!”
Grandma Gu slapped her forehead, “Look at my memory, I forgot.”
Luo Jianqing silently looked at this table of good food, feeling mixed emotions in his heart.
Grandma Gu ate and said, “Old man, do you know that Ah Qing is already forty years old this year!”
Grandpa Gu stared at Luo Jianqing with wide eyes and said, “Forty?! Isn’t that as old as my eldest son?”
Grandma Gu smiled and nodded.
The dim yellow light flickered gently in the narrow farmhouse, and Luo Jianqing sat cross-legged on the bed, meditating and practicing. He had just broken through the Nascent Soul stage, and if it weren’t for the need to leave the valley quickly, he would have consolidated his cultivation. But now, he couldn’t calm down.
He heard Grandpa Gu’s voice next door, and Grandma Gu’s breathing; he heard the sound of frogs outside this small thatched cottage, and the sound of the rolling Luo River not far away.
Luo Jianqing finally got up and walked to the courtyard, looking up at the sky.
It happened to be a full moon, and the moonlight was cool as water, slowly sprinkling on the earth.
The handsome and elegant face of the green-clothed cultivator was full of confusion, and his star-like eyes were full of confusion and doubt. He stood in Gu Village, but he seemed to be standing in the bustling capital, and then on the top of the cold and quiet Yuxiao Peak.
Luo Jianqing closed his eyes silently, feeling the rare silence of the night.
The next morning, when Grandma Gu got up, she suddenly saw Luo Jianqing in the courtyard, and she was stunned, exclaiming, “Ah Qing, why did you get up so early? It’s cold outside. Come in quickly. You’re wearing so little. How can you stand it?”
Luo Jianqing smiled and took the water bucket from Grandma Gu’s hand, saying, “I’ll help you cook.”
The young man’s radiant smile made Grandma Gu slightly stunned. After a moment, she nodded happily and said, “Good!”
The next morning, Luo Jianqing accompanied Grandma Gu to cook. In the morning, Grandpa Gu prepared to go to the fields, and Luo Jianqing said, “I’ll go with you.”
Grandpa Gu was also surprised, but finally said happily, “Okay!”
Without using any spiritual power or spells, Luo Jianqing personally held the fragile seedlings and slowly inserted them into the moist soil. Grandpa Gu laughed heartily and constantly directed Luo Jianqing on what he was doing wrong and where he should insert the seedlings more accurately.
After a day, Luo Jianqing’s beautiful and fair face was also covered in mud.
Days passed by like this.
Suddenly, an outsider came to the village of Gu, which was quite rare. Moreover, this outsider was so handsome! In an instant, the hearts of countless girls were all captured, and even the most beautiful girl in the village shyly gave Luo Jianqing a red flower and then quickly ran away blushing.
Luo Jianqing lowered his head and looked at the red flower in his hand while carrying a bucket of water.
The flower was so delicate, like a girl’s face, representing youth and time.
Luo Jianqing rejected all the matchmakers’ introductions and refused every villager who wanted to introduce him to someone. He lived in Grandma Gu’s house, cooking, washing vegetables, going to the fields, and cleaning. It was as if he had truly integrated into this family. He did every task seriously, but even wearing rough linen clothes, he still seemed cold and elegant like a celestial being.
During the onset of winter, a heavy rain fell on Gujia Village, causing the Luo River to flood out of season.
That night, Luo Jianqing went to the fields with Grandpa Gu to check on the crops. When Grandpa Gu stumbled on the embankment, Luo Jianqing instinctively reached out to catch him but failed to do so.
He had forgotten that he was a cultivator and had not used his spiritual power. Instead, he had attempted to catch Grandpa Gu with his mortal body, and as a result, he failed.
Grandpa Gu took a hard fall and was bedridden, with Grandma Gu taking care of him. Luo Jianqing never left his side. The villagers sent many gifts to help, including a beautiful girl who had given them a quilt. Before leaving, she lowered her head and whispered, “I saw you on the Luo River that day, but I was so frightened that I didn’t have a chance to call out.”
Luo Jianqing kept his eyes down and did not respond.
Ten days later, Grandpa Gu’s condition worsened. During his three years in the Flowing Flame Valley, Luo Jianqing’s storage ring had been depleted of all pills. He had planned to use his spiritual power to save Grandpa Gu’s life, but on the evening he intended to do so, Grandma Gu casually muttered, while wiping Grandpa Gu’s body, “That immortal said his disciple would come and sever our fate. My old man is dying. Why hasn’t he come yet…?”
Luo Jianqing was at a loss for words.
Three days later, Grandpa Gu passed away, unable to see. He should have passed away three years ago, but he had managed to survive until now with the help of spiritual medicine. During his last moments, Grandpa Gu talked to Grandma Gu for a long time. He reminisced about how they met and their early days of marriage, as well as their regret over not having children for many years. He also spoke about the memories of abandoning their child in the Luo River.
Luo Jianqing listened quietly beside them, without saying a word.
When Grandpa Gu summoned him over with a wave of his hand, he sat down beside the bed.
Grandpa Gu’s rough big hand touched his hand and gently rubbed it. The movement was gentle and deft, and the smile on Grandpa Gu’s face was kind and accommodating. He looked at Luo Jianqing seriously without speaking, and Luo Jianqing also remained silent, just looking at him. It was unclear how long had passed before Grandpa Gu said in a hoarse voice, “Ah qing, over this past year, I have also regarded you as my own son. I’m going to leave now, and at this moment, can you call me ‘Dad’?”
Luo Jianqing tightly pursed his lips.
Grandpa Gu was not angry, he just shook his head and said, “That’s really too much to ask.”
Saying this, Grandpa Gu waved to bring Grandma Gu over. He gently said, “I know, he is not a monster, he is our son. Axi, on the day I proposed to you, I picked your favorite azalea flower and put it in your hair. The smoke and clouds were really beautiful that day, but I remember that you were even more beautiful than they were.”
Grandma Gu smiled tenderly and said, “Until the next life, I’ll still be waiting for you with that azalea flower. When you see it, you’ll know it’s me.”
Grandpa Gu nodded gently.
The two elderly people leaned against each other, and on the bed, Grandpa Gu’s face showed a contented smile. He slowly began to close his eyes, but then he heard a hoarse voice suddenly say, “Dad…”
A bright light flashed in Grandpa Gu’s eyes, and he finally closed his eyes, a tear falling down.
Ten days after Grandpa Gu’s passing, Grandma Gu’s health began to decline. Luo Jianqingbegan to take care of the lonely old woman. He listened to her stories about her and Grandpa Gu’s youth and about her unfortunate daughter who had passed away many years ago.
Three months later, Grandma Gu lay on the bed and could no longer get up. On that day, she held hands with Luo Jianqing and, like Grandpa Gu before, regained her spirit and continued to chatter earnestly.
“When I was young, I had high standards. Ah Qing, don’t look at me like this now, I was the most beautiful girl in ten villages and eight townships when I was young. That day, in the sunset, I saw that old man holding a big bunch of azaleas, happily smiling at me. At that time, I thought this silly guy was really interesting, so I married him.”
“After we got married for twelve years, I didn’t have a child. The old man never minded, but the villagers said I was like an infertile hen. After twelve years, I finally got pregnant with a child. When he was born, he would open his eyes and smile at us. His eyes were really beautiful, like a crescent moon when he smiled. The midwife said I had given birth to a big girl.”
“But when he smiled, thunder rumbled in the sky. The thunder was so bright and terrifying that I had never seen anything like it in my life. It lasted for three days and nights, striking the top of our village as if it would never stop. Then the water in the Luo River at the edge of the village gradually became exceptionally clean, so clean that I didn’t know there were so many shrimp and fish underneath.
“Then we put him in a wooden barrel and placed him in the Luo River. Wherever his barrel touched the water, it suddenly became calm. The fish and shrimp moved away, and even the thunder followed him and struck elsewhere.”
As she spoke, she still smiled faintly, while Grandma Gu coughed twice. Luo Jianqing handed her a glass of warm water, and after taking a sip, Grandma Gu gasped for breath and smiled at Luo Jianqing, saying, “My old man and I gave him a name then, it’s called… Gu Nian Sheng.”
Luo Jianqing nodded gently. “That’s a good name.”
Grandma Gu smiled and took another sip of water.
Outside the window, the rain had started again at some point. The spring rain was pitter-pattering, without a sound. When Luo Jianqing walked over to close the window, before he could turn around, a kind and elderly voice sounded behind him, “Nian Sheng, have you been doing well these years?”
Luo Jianqing stiffened all over.
“Are your parents treating you well? Do you have siblings? Where do you live? Have you married a wife?”
Luo Jianqing remained motionless, without turning around.
While coughing, Grandma Gu smiled and said, “I’ve forgotten. You’ve become a deity. Your master must be treating you well. Is he…”
“Grandma Gu!”
Suddenly hearing this address, Grandma Gu’s body trembled, and her mouth slowly closed.
After a long silence, Grandma Gu wiped away the tears that had accumulated in her eyes and said hoarsely, “My second child was a daughter. We named her Gu Amei, and her nickname was Nian Sheng. She was very beautiful and got married to a young man from the neighboring village when she was sixteen. But she died in childbirth. Her husband stayed with her for three years after her death and then remarried when he became wealthy. Unfortunately, my daughter never had a good life.”
“When I was a child, my ancestors used to say that there’s cause and effect in life. Nian Sheng passed away just a few days after he was born, so Amei inherited her name and, like us, received retribution.”
Luo Jianqing remained silent, looking down with his back still facing the window.
“That water under Luo River is really cold.”
“Before that immortal came, for twenty-seven years, neither I nor the old man had a good night’s sleep.”
“We did something wrong and the one we owe it to… is our child.”
Her voice suddenly choked up, and a low sob sounded behind Luo Jianqing. At this point, Luo Jianqing couldn’t help but turn his head, only to see the gray-haired old woman covering her face and crying softly. The thick blanket was already wet with tears, and she kept crying and trembling.
Luo Jianqing clenched his teeth and took a step forward, but before he could speak, he heard Granny Gu say again, “Three years ago, the immortal said that me and the old man had reached our limit, and we both said we didn’t want to continue living. We just wanted to go down and take a good look at my Ah Mei, and… see my family’s Nian Sheng. But that immortal said that Nian Sheng was still waiting for us, waiting for us to… sever the bond between parent and child in this lifetime.”
“We asked him where Nian Sheng was.”
“He said… when the time comes, we will naturally know.”
“For this thought, we held our breath and endured for three whole years. That immortal medicine… we actually didn’t take it. It’s a good thing that should be left for Nian Sheng, and we can’t eat it. Every day and night for these three years, we have been thinking, what kind of person is my Nian Sheng?”
“He’s in his thirties, he might be living well, married with children. Or maybe he’s as handsome as that immortal, and one day he suddenly flew into our courtyard and said he wanted to sever the bond between parent and child with us.”
“On the day he came, I was washing clothes, and I suddenly saw a person floating in the middle of the water. When that person was rescued, the first glance I took, I knew… he was my Nian Sheng.”
“My Nian Sheng, he’s even better-looking than I thought, even better.”
“He is so good, we are not worthy of him. I know that after I die, he will become an immortal. That would be great. He should be that kind of person. What does this lifetime’s parental bond really mean to him?”
“Mother…” Luo Jianqing’s voice choked up.
Grandma Gu suddenly raised her head and looked at the handsome young man in front of her blankly.
After a long while, she waved her hand and called Luo Jianqing to her side, asking, “Niansheng, have you been doing well these years?”
The way she spoke was cautious, and her voice was very low, as if afraid of frightening someone.
Luo Jianqing reached out and held Grandma Gu’s hand, nodding his head and saying, “I’m doing well.”
Grandma Gu asked again, “Do you have any children?”
Luo Jianqing shook his head.
Grandma Gu asked, “Do you have a wife?”
Luo Jianqing nodded and said, “I have someone I like.”
Grandma Gu immediately smiled with joy and her eyes curved, “That’s good…that’s good.”
The candlelight flickered gently, and no matter how strong the wind and rain were outside, they could not disturb the warm atmosphere inside the room. With a smile on her face, Grandma Gu spoke a lot of words, as if she had endless things to say to Luo Jianqing. Her voice gradually weakened until the eastern sky began to turn white.
In the end, Grandma Gu leaned against Luo Jianqing’s chest and murmured, “That day, it was me who decided to abandon you, not your father, really…not your father. After we abandoned you, we regretted it before we even got home. Your father and I rowed a boat to search for you in the Luo River, but we couldn’t find you no matter what…we really couldn’t find you. Later, we found a lot of silver at home. It’s all hidden under the bed. It’s all Yours…”
As the words fell, the arm also suddenly dropped.
Luo Jianqing hugged the old woman who closed her eyes in a daze, and after a long time, tears slowly overflowed.
At the moment when that sentence ended, Luo Jianqing felt something suddenly disappear from his body. That thing had been binding him for forty-one years, but he had been completely unaware of it. It was the bond between parents, something hidden deep in his bloodline, and with a single sentence from Grandma Gu, it was completely severed.
What does it mean to sever earthly ties?
Do you really have to give up love and emotions to achieve the great path?
In the sky, thunderclouds rolled and countless thunderbolts, like silver snakes, twisted and struck, and heavy rain poured down.
In such a terrifying thunderstorm, Luo Jianqing buried Grandma Gu’s cold body in Grandpa Gu’s tomb, burying the two together. He knelt in front of the tombstone, kowtowing heavily forty-one times, and finally his fingers converged into sword qi, writing on the tombstone–
“Son Gu Nian Sheng Luo.”
At the moment the brush fell, the last strand of the bond between parents was completely broken. At this moment, Luo Jianqing looked up at the sky, his handsome face cold, and he calmly rebuked.
“Who was right and who was wrong in the Luo river Thunderstorm forty-one years ago?”
“Why must I sever my worldly attachments to become an immortal?”
“Why must immortals be heartless and unfeeling?”
“Why must they forget their earthly bonds?”
“I, Luo Jianqing, vow not to sever my worldly attachments and still achieve the Great Dao!”
“Boom–“
An ancient and profound power surged up from the ground, gathering around Luo Jianqing in a tangible form.
This is the third trial of the “Nine Seizures of Heaven Record” – the Trial of Right and Wrong!
