Chapter 12: Grandpa, What’s the Story Behind This Bracelet?
Tang Xin had been so arrogant just moments ago, but now she was completely scared.
Even though she was terrified, she still didn’t believe she had done anything wrong.
After all, Tang Zhishu was just a child Tang Sumei had after sleeping with some man.
And that younger brother of hers, who had gone missing twenty years ago—they were both illegitimate, unwanted children. Why were they allowed to stay in the Tang family?
As for that shameless woman Tang Sumei, who knows whose child she had back then? Just because their grandfather spoiled her, she’s been able to stay in the family all these years.
Tang Xin had always believed that Tang Zhishu existed solely to steal the family inheritance from them. Ever since they were young, she had purposely targeted her, jealous that Tang Zhishu was prettier than she was. For years, she had wanted to drive her out of the Tang family.
Glaring at Tang Zhishu with hatred, her face twisted slightly as she spat, “I wanted to burn it! I want to destroy everything that belongs to you. You’re just some unwanted child. Why should you stay in this family? All you want is to take our inheritance.”
Hearing her hateful words, Tang Zhishu’s fox-like eyes, identical to Tang Sumei’s, flashed with a dangerous, icy light.
Two seconds later, Tang Zhishu curled her lips into a cold smile. Lazily, she turned to Tang Sumei, who was still catching her breath, and asked, “Su Meiren, isn’t grandpa’s birthday the day after tomorrow?”
“That’s right, sweetheart. Why do you ask?”
Tang Sumei, in between breaths, responded to her beloved daughter.
Tang Zhishu smirked and said, “Since these two care so much about their looks, why don’t we help them out today? Maybe at grandpa’s birthday party, the guests can have a good laugh.”
Hearing her daughter’s idea, Tang Sumei’s eyes lit up.
“That’s my girl! You’ve inherited your mother’s cleverness perfectly.”
In the next moment, both Tang Xin and Chen Jingqi began screaming in agony.
Twenty minutes later.
Tang Zhishu and her companions, satisfied with their handiwork, looked down at the two women, whose faces were now completely swollen like pig heads. They clapped their hands satisfy with the outcome.
“Not bad, I’m quite pleased with this masterpiece,” Tang Zhishu said with a satisfied smile.
Tang Sumei, having returned to her previously elegant and graceful demeanor, pulled some wet wipes from her purse and handed them to Tang Zhishu and Tang Weiwen.
As she elegantly wiped her soft, fair hands, she smiled seductively and said, “It’ll take at least half a month for their faces to recover.”
“Sweetheart, don’t worry about them anymore. You’re finally back. Come with mommy to do some shopping. Grandpa’s birthday is coming up, and I’m going to make sure you look stunning and drive them crazy.”
Tang Sumei was an incredibly beautiful woman. Her figure was curvaceous and seductive, and her face look like a teenager and delicate that no one could tell she was over forty.
Hearing this, Tang Zhishu quickly grabbed Tang Weiwen by her side and said in a hurry, “Su Meiren, I’ve got something to do later, so I can’t join you. How about you let Weiwen go with you first? We’ll meet up later.”
“Okay then.” She then smiled.
With that, Tang Zhishu quickly go.
Upon hearing she had to go shopping with her godmother, Tang Weiwen pulled a bitter face on her handsome and delicate features.
Seeing her expression, Tang Sumei chuckled, playfully pinching her cheek and scolding, “You little rascal, is it really that much of a burden to go shopping with me?”
Tang Weiwen rubbed her face, protesting, “Godmother, I’m a girl! Don’t keep calling me ‘kiddo’ all the time. And also, every time you go shopping, it always takes hours! I’d rather go train with my sister than go shopping with you.”
Tang Sumei snorted, “Your protests won’t work. Didn’t I ask you to call me ‘Mommy’? Or at least follow your sister and call me ‘Su Meiren’? You keep calling me ‘Godmother’—it makes me feel old.”
“Fine, fine, Su Meiren, how about I find a handsome uncle to go shopping with you instead?”
“No way! There isn’t a handsome guy in this country that I haven’t flirted with. Having them with me would only spoil my fun. Enough talk—let’s go.”
Without another word, Tang Sumei dragged Tang Weiwen into the elevator.
Meanwhile, behind them, Tang Xin and Chen Jingqi, beaten beyond recognition, glared at them with the hate in their eyes.
After leaving the hospital, Tang Zhishu drove straight back to the Tang family mansion.
As one of the four great families, the Tang family’s mansion was located halfway up a mountain. The estate alone spanned over a thousand acres—an immense and luxurious property.
Tang Zhishu drove up to the main villa of the estate and, after getting out of the car, headed directly toward the backyard.
On her way, she ran into Butler Liu.
Butler Liu was a kind, friendly old man in his sixties.
When he saw Tang Zhishu, he greeted her warmly with a smile, “Third Miss, you’re back.”
Tang Zhishu smiled and nodded, “Uncle Liu, where’s grandpa?”
Butler Liu smiled back and replied, “The old master is in the backyard playing chess with a few of his old friends.”
Tang Zhishu beamed, “Alright, Uncle Liu, you can carry on. I’ll go find grandpa.”
“Very well, Third Miss.”
Tang Zhishu walked into the backyard and saw her grandpa playing chess with his friends.
Suddenly, a mischievous smile crossed her face.
She quietly tiptoed up behind Tang Cangxiao and covered his eyes, deliberately lowering her voice, “Guess who?”
The elderly men playing chess with Tang Cangxiao simply chuckled and said nothing.
Tang Cangxiao let out a chuckle of his own and calmly replied, “Who else but my naughty granddaughter would dare to act so boldly toward me?”
Realizing she had been guessed correctly, Tang Zhishu dropped her hands in disappointment.
She knelt in front of Tang Cangxiao, tilting her head to look up at him with a cheeky smile. “Grandpa, can’t you just play along for once? At least guess! If you give it away right away, I lose face!”
Tang Cangxiao, his once-stern face now softened with affection for his granddaughter, snorted, “Do you even have face to lose?”
Tang Zhishu: “…”
Her grandpa’s comment had the elderly men around them laughing, as they tried to console her, telling her not to mind the grumpy old man.
Tang Zhishu, of course, knew they were all just teasing her.
But she had come to ask her grandpa something important.
Taking off the jade bracelet from her wrist, Tang Zhishu held it out to her grandfather and asked, “Grandpa, when you gave me this bracelet all those years ago, you told me to take good care of it. But you never explained the story behind it.”
When Tang Cangxiao saw the jade bracelet in her hand, something flashed in his eyes, and he quickly looked away.
He shifted uncomfortably and asked, “Zhishu, why are you asking about it all of a sudden?”
