The Secret Behind the Veil
The Secret Behind the Veil Chapter 15

Chapter 15: “What! You’re Yan Yuhen’s Grandson?”

When Tang Zhishu saw the man in front of her, she was so shocked that she forgot to react. She stood there, wide-eyed, staring blankly as Yan Kui approached.

It wasn’t just Tang Zhishu—Jiang Jinyan, standing beside her, was also surprised and astonished.

Mo Jinhan raised his eyebrows when he saw Yan Kui. While he, too, was a little surprised, he wasn’t too shocked that his close friend had shown up here.

After all, from the start, he suspected that Tang Zhishu’s escape was probably all part of Yan Kui’s plan.

So this was the move he had been planning.

Tang Zhishu stood there stiffly, her legs feeling as heavy as lead, watching as the regal and aloof figure slowly walked toward them.

Dressed in a black suit, Yan Kui’s tall, imposing figure of 1.9 meters finally reached them.

But it was as if he didn’t even see Tang Zhishu, or maybe he simply ignored her presence altogether.

His handsome, cold face showed no trace of emotion.

Standing in front of Mo Jinhan, the two similarly noble and aloof men seemed to create a powerful and chilling aura around them.

“Aren’t you supposed to be on your honeymoon?” Yan Kui’s deep, magnetic voice was calm and indifferent, yet strangely pleasant to hear.

Mo Jinhan raised an eyebrow, giving Yan Kui a teasing look. The corner of his lips lifted slightly as he lazily replied, “My wife said we should attend Old Master Tang’s birthday banquet first, then make arrangements.”

Yan Kui glanced at Mo Jinhan’s smug expression, then looked away.

“Shall we go in together?” Yan Kui asked casually.

Mo Jinhan found the situation amusing. His deep eyes flickered briefly between Tang Zhishu and Yan Kui before a small smile appeared on his lips.

“Hmm.”

With that, Mo Jinhan turned to Jiang Jinyan and said gently, “Babe, if anything comes up, just come find me.”

Jiang Jinyan had also noticed the strange tension between Tang Zhishu and Yan Kui, so she nodded. “Got it, love.”

After Yan Kui and Mo Jinhan went inside, Jiang Jinyan patted her best friend’s cheek.

“They’ve gone. Snap out of it.”

Thanks to Jiang Jinyan’s reminder, Tang Zhishu finally came back to her senses.

“Holy crap! What is he doing here?”

Tang Zhishu looked utterly stunned and incredulous.

Jiang Jinyan shrugged. “Don’t ask me—I have no idea.”

“We’re doomed! Will he drag me back again? Ugh! Why can’t I shake him off? I should’ve just run off to Antarctica to watch penguins—let him freeze to death there!” Tang Zhishu started pacing around like a nervous wreck.

Jiang Jinyan laughed and tried to calm her down. “Relax. Didn’t you see that he didn’t even look at you? Besides, this is your territory, and Grandpa Tang is here too. He wouldn’t dare touch you.”

As soon as Jiang Jinyan said that, Tang Zhishu snapped back to reality.

“That’s right! How could I forget? This is the Tang family! Why should I be scared of him? If he even so much as touches me, I’ll announce to everyone just how bad his skills were that night. Hmph!” Tang Zhishu spoke tough, but she wiped the cold sweat off her pale forehead as she said it.

Jiang Jinyan: “…”

“But seriously, what’s his deal? Why didn’t he react when he saw me this time?”

“I can’t figure it out either. Anyway, let’s head inside,” Jiang Jinyan said, pulling Tang Zhishu along.

“Oh, by the way, where are little Kui and little Yu?” Tang Zhishu asked curiously.

Jiang Jinyan sighed sadly. “Little Kui caught a cold and had a fever last night, and little Yu is at home taking care of her with their grandparents, so it’s just me and Jinhan here.”

Tang Zhishu frowned. Hearing that little Kui wasn’t feeling well, her heart ached.

“Poor little Kui, she must be feeling awful, probably crying and calling for Aunt Zhishu to hold her. Ugh, my heart aches for her.”

Jiang Jinyan shook her head with a smile as the two chatted and made their way inside.

As they entered, they overheard the surrounding guests talking about something, particularly the wealthy ladies attending the banquet. They looked shy and excited, glancing toward a certain spot now and then.

Curious, the two women listened in on the conversation.

“Those two men are so handsome! I’m so excited!”

“Who are they? They look so impressive—I’d love to meet them.”

“You guys don’t know? The man on the left is Mo Jinhan, the eldest young master of the Mo family, the most powerful family. But don’t get your hopes up—he just got married recently. His wife is the woman standing next to Tang Zhishu.”

“Her name is Jiang Jinyan, and trust me, don’t mess with her. She’s one of the most respected women here, with power you wouldn’t believe.”

Tang Zhishu and Jiang Jinyan exchanged amused smiles upon hearing this.

“Let’s go find Grandpa Tang,” Tang Zhishu suggested.

As they headed over to look for Old Master Tang, Jiang Jinyan spotted Mo Jinhan talking with Yan Kui. She waved at him.

Mo Jinhan noticed and casually said to Yan Kui, “Aren’t you also here to see Old Master Tang? Let’s go together.”

Yan Kui, with his usual aloof and lazy demeanor, lifted his eyes and glanced in their direction.

From across the room, Tang Zhishu, who had been sneaking glances at him, quickly looked away in a panic the moment his gaze met hers.

Yan Kui’s lips twitched slightly.

Soon, they reached Jiang Jinyan and Tang Zhishu.

As Yan Kui approached, Tang Zhishu puffed up her chest and assumed a proud posture, not wanting to appear weak. She held Jiang Jinyan’s hand and walked toward Old Master Tang.

Old Master Tang was chatting with some old friends when he heard Tang Zhishu’s playful voice.

“Grandpa, look who’s here!”

Hearing her voice, Tang Cangxiao turned around and saw Jiang Jinyan.

“Well, if it isn’t you, Yanyan! It’s been a while since you came to visit this old man,” he said with a kind smile.

Jiang Jinyan beamed brightly and sweetly. “Grandpa Tang, today is your 86th birthday. Jinhan and I wish you boundless happiness and a long, healthy life!”

Old Master Tang looked at the man beside her—Mo Jinhan—and nodded approvingly. “So, this is your husband? Not bad!”

Mo Jinhan smiled politely, his handsome face respectful. “Happy birthday, Old Master Tang,” he said in his deep voice.

Old Master Tang laughed heartily and nodded.

At that moment, his attention turned to Yan Kui, who hadn’t spoken yet. The old man felt the young man looked oddly familiar.

He glanced at Tang Zhishu and asked, “Zhishu, who’s this?”

Tang Zhishu’s smile stiffened, and she didn’t respond.

The next second, Yan Kui spoke.

“Old Master Tang, my name is Yan Kui. Yan Yuhen is my grandfather.”

The moment Yan Kui said that, his gaze locked onto the old man.

“What! You’re Yan Yuhen’s grandson?” Tang Cangxiao’s eyes widened in shock as he instinctively raised his voice.

Seeing her grandfather’s reaction, Tang Zhishu frowned in confusion and asked, “Grandpa, what’s wrong?”
