Chapter 499: Blame It All On Instincts
The Yin-Yang ghosts had been tormented all night, but the significance of that night was ambiguous. Ye Wenxin showered the half-dead Ghost Mother with affections, requesting that she act as her spy.
“I really can’t tell if you care about her or not.”
Ghost Mother couldn’t comprehend Ye Wenxin’s intentions. She had abandoned her but still showed concern for Liu Churan behind her back.
“You’ll understand these complex emotions once you become human.”
Ye Wenxin affected a sentimental tone. Ghost Mother nearly flipped out, thinking Ye Wenxin was merely toying with her.
“What nonsense are you spouting? I will never become human!”
Ghost Mother couldn’t help but feel that Ye Wenxin was insulting her noble status as a member of the ghost race.
Ye Wenxin, however, smiled and stroked Ghost Mother’s head. “Exactly, so you will never know the intricacies of human emotions.”
As she considered the troublemaking Liu Churan, Ye Wenxin thought that Liu Churan was the typical villainess.
She would engage in evil deeds, possess a halo stronger than the average person, and perhaps one day be defeated by Fairy Fengya. Or perhaps, Fairy Fengya would lose to this so-called villainess. Regardless, those were matters for the future, and Ye Wenxin did not concern herself too much with them.
However, these were still issues Gu Qingcheng had left behind. Ye Wenxin must keep a close watch over them.
Ghost Mother, who didn’t understand the complexities of human emotions, was even more dissatisfied when Ye Wenxin pointed it out.
“How pointless! I don’t want complicated emotions. Isn’t it better being a ghost?”
Ye Wenxin smiled and countered, “But I’m human, not a ghost.”
Ghost Mother struggled, wanting to return to Liu Churan’s side, but suddenly remembered the seal Ye Wenxin had placed on her last night. If she hadn’t switched bodies with Sword Ghost out of anger, she wouldn’t be in this miserable state.
After struggling a few more times, Ghost Mother spat, “Is this why you did all those things to me? You bully!”
“No, that was purely instinctual.” Ye Wenxin grinned radiantly as she stroked Ghost Mother’s horns. Ghost Mother shivered with evident fear in her eyes. Ye Wenxin liked seeing this look on Ghost Mother but also regretted leaving her with Liu Churan like that.
However, if she hadn’t, she would have no idea what other big plan her foster daughter had in store next.
Ghost Mother, who had Liu Churan’s absolute trust, was the best choice. For now, Ye Wenxin only needed to keep coaxing Ghost Mother and make her willing to act as a double agent.
Ghost Mother was not falling for it, though. Despite Ye Wenxin whispering honeyed words to her for so long, Ghost Mother still refused to sell out her friend.
“Let’s try this again…” Ye Wenxin sighed, but just as she was about to suggest something, the previously resistant Ghost Mother suddenly nodded in agreement.
When the seal was lifted, however, she fled as fast as possible, terrified that Ye Wenxin would drag her into another exhausting confrontation.
Ye Wenxin was surprised to see Sword Ghost return, and she appeared quite shaken. Sword Ghost sobbed quiveringly as she recounted the horrors she witnessed at Liu Churan’s place. Ye Wenxin forced out a faint smile as she comforted her…
It was nearly noon once everything had settled down. Ye Wenxin made her way into a room, where Fairy Fengya was still sleeping soundly on the bed. After drinking five bottles of spirit wine the night before, Fairy Fengya hadn’t stirred. She lay peacefully, like a blooming lily.
If only Fairy Fengya had more expressions or showed more emotion, she would become even more beautiful. But that was simply a pipe dream.
Fairy Fengya was so cold, so distant that Ye Wenxin couldn’t get a handle on her.
For once, Fairy Fengya was sleeping quietly instead of meditating. As Ye Wenxin gently stroked her face, the face of the number one beauty, an indescribable feeling came over her.
However, there was no ulterior motive behind her touch. Ye Wenxin was simply trying to confirm whether this face truly existed, or if it was a beauty sculpted through some divine sorcery.
But everything was real. Ye Wenxin could feel the contours of Fairy Fengya’s face.
Fairy Fengya eventually woke up. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at Ye Wenxin, who didn’t stop moving her hand. Ye Wenxin smiled and asked, “You’re up?”
She wasn’t sure whether to be grateful that Fairy Fengya was an emotionally detached person, as the woman seemed to be overlooking her touch.
Fairy Fengya nodded before slowly sitting up. Feeling dizzy, she nearly stumbled forward but quickly caught herself.
This was the first time in years that Ye Wenxin had seen Fairy Fengya in such a sorry state.
“You’re quite something. I only dare to drink two bottles, but you drank five on your own,” Ye Wenxin said with a resigned smile. Fairy Fengya seemed to have just recalled the details of last night and casually replied, “Tasty.”
Just that simple word was telling enough for Ye Wenxin. Fairy Fengya had revealed a new vice, as she seemed quite taken with this spirit wine. Ye Wenxin had stocked up on a few hundred bottles, but at the rate Fairy Fengya was drinking, she’d soon run out.
So, Ye Wenxin had no intention of taking out more spirit wine.
“Well, you should head back now. If people from the Azure Wings Sect notice you’re missing, they’ll panic… Actually, never mind. You can roam wherever you want. Just don’t follow me.”
Ye Wenxin realized that, since Fairy Fengya came and went like the wind, no one would truly worry about her whereabouts. But it was different for Ye Wenxin. She was supposed to be on an undercover mission and couldn’t show herself at the inn too soon. Although she was concerned about Madam Yu’s reaction, using Ye Wenxin’s identity wouldn’t get too much attention.
In that case, Ye Wenxin figured it would be best to lay low for a while. It would give Madam Yu time to adjust to the new Yin Pearl, and allow Ye Wenxin to search for more hidden truths about it.
Her next destination was Cosmos Academy, where she planned to visit Teacher Asuka and deliver the late dean’s will. Judging by the teacher’s audacious name, Ye Wenxin suspected she might also be a transmigrator.
A detailed plan was already forming in her mind. Ye Wenxin decided to leave today, traveling alone. After quickly packing her nearly non-existent belongings, she prepared to set out.
Just about to leave, she noticed Fairy Fengya getting ready to follow her.
“Why are you still here?” Ye Wenxin asked in surprise. She couldn’t understand why Fairy Fengya insisted on following her this time.
“Since I’ve come down, I thought I’d take a stroll,” said Fairy Fengya. It seemed she wanted to wander around with Ye Wenxin.
Being followed by the world’s most beautiful woman should have been an enjoyable experience, but Ye Wenxin found Fairy Fengya to be more of a burden right now.
Her mind was racing with too many unanswered questions. There was so much she needed to learn. The Yin-Yang Pearls and the peach blossom demon on her back were both urgent concerns. She had no interest in indulging Fairy Fengya’s whims.
After a moment of thought, however, Ye Wenxin relented. “Fine, come along then. But if I tell you to beat someone up, you do it.”
