After making their plans, Su Dahai immediately took Wang Fang and their daughter to her parents’ house in the neighboring building.
Then, they borrowed a bicycle from her parents and the three of them rode two bicycles directly to the countryside.
After about an hour of riding, they were still at the entrance of the village when they heard loud and lively shouts coming from the village.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. “Wow, it’s been so long, and the noise is still so loud.”
“They’re quite a force to be reckoned with.”
Su Dahai recognized the loudest voice, the one that was cursing the most viciously, as his mother Zhang Guilan’s. He felt his face burning with shame.
He glared at Su Yi reproachfully. “You really are something. You knew that kid was bringing people home, and that our parents would definitely go over to make a scene. Why did you wait so long to come find us?”
“Just listen to that. Your mother is so agitated because of you. When have you ever seen her like this?”
Hearing Su Dahai’s words, Su Yi couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly.
He was clearly saying this to his sister-in-law Wang Fang, trying to defend Zhang Guilan’s outburst in advance.
“She’s making a scene because of him?” Su Yi thought to himself. “More like she’s making a scene for her own face and money.”
However, Su Yi still gave him face and agreed, “Yeah, sister-in-law, my mom isn’t usually like this. Besides being good at scolding me, I’ve never seen her scold others so harshly!”
Su Dahai was taken aback by his sister’s words.
Not knowing what to say, he just pedaled silently towards the Qin family’s house.
When they reached the front of the Qin family’s house, they saw a huge crowd of people, completely surrounding the courtyard, inside and out.
Almost the entire village had come out to watch the spectacle.
It was even more lively than a stage play.
In just a few steps, Su Yi understood the situation.
As she had expected, the news of Qin Yunfeng bringing Bai Ruolin back to the village had spread throughout the entire village before they even reached the Qin family’s house.
As soon as they entered the gate, the Su family arrived to demand an explanation.
They claimed that Su Yi had been forced to her death by the two of them, and since they couldn’t find her body, they had come to demand compensation.
No matter how Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin tried to explain, they refused to listen.
The people outside the courtyard saw Su Yi returning and immediately shouted, “The Su family’s daughter is back! She’s not dead!”
Su Yi twitched her lips. Their imagination was too wild.
Seeing Su Yi returning with her brother and sister-in-law, the crowd quickly cleared a path for them.
As soon as she stepped into the courtyard, Zhang Guifang immediately started yelling at Su Yi, “You little slut, how dare you come back? Why didn’t you just die out there?”
Although Su Yi had the original owner’s memories, she was still shocked by her mother’s furious scolding, facing it directly for the first time.
Instinctively, she retorted, “I saw you crying so hard just now. I thought you didn’t want me back? What good would it do you if I died out there?”
Seeing her talk back, Zhang Guilan raised her hand to slap her. “Of course, I hope you die as far away as possible! So you don’t come back and embarrass us!”
Before the slap could land, Su Dahai, who had squeezed through the crowd, stopped her. “Mom, calm down. Xiao Yi finally came back.”
Zhang Guilan was overjoyed to see her eldest son back. Then, she saw her son’s wife behind him.
She quickly withdrew her hand. “Fangzi is back too? I was just too excited, I didn’t mean to really hit her.”
Wang Fang scoffed. “Mom, what’s going on? We heard the commotion from afar at the village entrance.”
Zhang Guilan spat at the Qin family. “At noon, the Qin family’s son brought a woman back. We didn’t see Xiao Yi, so we thought maybe they harmed her outside, and that’s why we came here.”
Then, she glared at Su Yi. “You… Where did you go?”
Su Yi pursed her lips. “I went to see my niece at my brother and sister-in-law’s house.”
Su Xingfa, the original owner’s father, rushed over upon seeing Su Yi. “Xiao Yi, what’s going on? Didn’t you go to Qin Yunfeng after the New Year? Why did he bring someone else back?”
Su Yi paused. “What did the Qin family say?”
Su Xingfa quickly repeated Qin Yunfeng’s explanation. “He said that they had already gotten their marriage certificate and were legally married. He also said that you agreed to the break-up first before they got married.”
As soon as Su Xingfa finished speaking, Qin Yunfeng’s mother sat down on the ground crying.
“Damn it, this family came to our house at noon to cause chaos. It’s not easy for a widow like me to raise a son and a daughter. We finally got a wife for him, and now you want to ruin it.”
“You said just now that Qin Yunfeng harmed your daughter. Now she’s back safe and sound, and she agreed to the break-up herself. What else is there to say?”
“We gave you one hundred yuan as a betrothal gift when you were engaged. The Su family better return the money!”
Qin’s mother finally got the upper hand and seized the opportunity to demand the return of the betrothal gift.
Qin Yunfeng stood behind her with a helpless expression, wanting to pull her up but not knowing where to start.
Bai Ruolin, on the other hand, kept a faint smile on her face as she watched, seemingly quite pleased with her mother-in-law’s attitude.
Su Yi paused and smiled at Qin’s mother. “Auntie, what are you doing? Your son and daughter-in-law had already hooked up before I left. You must have known about it beforehand.”
“Otherwise, why would you try so hard to persuade me not to go? When you couldn’t persuade me, you even hired people to snatch my luggage on the road and push me into the river. Luckily, I was lucky enough to survive. Otherwise, you would have really killed me!”
As soon as Su Yi finished speaking, the entire courtyard fell silent.
Even Qin’s mother was stunned for a moment, forgetting to cry. “You… you’re lying! A little girl like you dares to slander your elders! Who harmed you?!”
Su Yi sneered. “You know in your heart whether it’s true or not. What goes around comes around. It’s not that it won’t be repaid, the time just hasn’t come yet. Auntie, do you dare to swear under the watchful eyes of everyone present? If I’m wrong, then may I never have good fortune. If it was really you who did it, then may your son and daughter never have a good life.”
Qin’s mother froze for a moment, the color draining from her face.
Seeing this, Su Yi continued to press her. “Do you dare?”
Qin Yunfeng was also shocked and squatted down. “Mom, did you really hire someone to harm her on the road?”
He had heard Su Yi mention someone stealing her things on the road and had specifically written a letter home to ask about it.
At the time, he was only suspicious, but he never imagined that they had not only stolen her things but also almost killed her.
This was something he hadn’t considered at all.
Seeing her son publicly questioning her, Qin’s mother was so angry that she slapped him in the face. “You’re already married, and you’re still siding with that little slut to anger me? How could it be me?!”
Seeing her flustered appearance, everyone started pointing fingers.
