Take a Bite of the Bunny
Take a Bite of the Bunny Chapter 5

“Ahhh! They’re holding hands!”

As soon as the elevator doors closed, a flurry of whispers broke out in the lobby.

“Ahhh! They really came for Little Meng!”

“Oh my god! Did you see how fast Little Meng was walking just now? I’m melting, hehehehe…”

“I heard he went on a blind date recently. Could this be the alpha? They look so adorable together, hehehe…”

“For real! So cute! And Meng Yue Sheng is so handsome! I’m gonna die from this ship!”

“Hehehehehehe…”

In the elevator, Meng Yue Sheng hadn’t let go of her hand. It was just the two of them in there, and for a while, the air was filled with awkward silence. Meng Yue Sheng, feeling the warmth in his palm, finally tried to loosen his grip.

“Sorry, just now—” He started to apologize, but the words caught in his throat.

Wei Jin tightened her grip instead, intertwining their fingers completely.

“I want to keep holding your hand…” Wei Jin mumbled, staring down at her shoes. In her rush to get here, she hadn’t had time to dress up. She wore a formal suit, but her tie was missing, and a few buttons were undone, exposing a hint of her collarbone.

Her palms were getting a bit sweaty, but she couldn’t bring herself to let go of Meng Yue Sheng’s hand.

This was their first moment of physical closeness!

“You don’t… dislike me, do you?” Wei Jin asked, her voice muffled.

“No…” Meng Yue Sheng’s fingers twitched slightly, his whole arm feeling a bit stiff. Even his heartbeat seemed to sync with the lingering floral scent in the air.

He recognized that scent.

In the small space of the elevator, their breaths seemed louder, and the warmth in the air grew palpable.

Though the ride was just a few floors, it felt like an eternity.

When the elevator finally dinged and the doors opened, both of them let out a subconscious sigh of relief.

Still holding hands, Meng Yue Sheng walked slowly, almost as if trying to regain control of the situation, and spoke first.

“Our company isn’t very big. We occupy the fourth to seventh floors. This is where I work, so there usually aren’t many people up here.”

“I was looking over some documents earlier, and my phone was on silent. I didn’t notice your message… sorry for making you wait so long.”

His tone was soft, with a trace of guilt.

Wei Jin couldn’t handle the apology. “No, it’s okay, it’s my fault for wanting to see you so much. I’m the one interrupting your work…”

“You didn’t interrupt anything.”

Meng Yue Sheng opened the door to his office. It was spacious but sparsely furnished, giving the room a slightly empty feeling. His desk, however, was cluttered with stacks of papers, scattered around as if hastily placed.

“Uh, um—sorry, I haven’t had time to tidy up, it’s a bit messy…” Meng Yue Sheng glanced at their clasped hands. “You can sit on the sofa first.”

Reluctantly, Wei Jin let go.

“Okay…”

She walked over and obediently sat on the sofa like a dejected puppy.

“Oh!” She suddenly remembered the flowers she was holding. The wrapping paper was now crumpled from her grip. “The flowers… these are for you…”

Her voice was soft and a little pitiful.

“The flowers look so wrinkled now…”

She tried to smooth out the creases, but before she could, Meng Yue Sheng reached over and patted her head.

“Huh?”

The puppy raised her head, confused.

The awkwardness that had lingered around Meng Yue Sheng finally disappeared, replaced by a gentle smile in his eyes.

“It’s alright, they’re still beautiful.” He held out his hand.

“Aren’t they a gift for me?”

Wei Jin looked up at him and handed over the flowers.

Meng Yue Sheng accepted the blue roses, their warmth still lingering from Wei Jin’s touch.

Holding the bouquet, just like when they first met, he smiled at her and said, “Thank you, I really like them—”

Before he could finish his sentence, Wei Jin suddenly pulled him, causing him to lose his balance and land directly on her lap.

The smile in his eyes was quickly replaced by shock.

The blue roses got squished, and a few pale petals fell onto the sofa.

“I’m sorry…” Wei Jin rested her chin on his shoulder. “I crushed your flowers…”

Meng Yue Sheng’s legs were awkwardly draped over hers, his feet barely touching the ground. He had to tiptoe just to stabilize himself.

“You… what are you…” Meng Yue Sheng tried to speak, propping himself up on the sofa with one hand, but the words wouldn’t come out.

Wei Jin nuzzled his shoulder, her face brushing against the skin of his neck. “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help it.”

“You smiled so beautifully, and you speak so gently… I’ve wanted to do this for a long time…”

Meng Yue Sheng’s breath hitched, his warm breath grazing her ear.

“This is too fast… like this…”

His voice was trembling, almost a whisper, his heart pounding so loudly it echoed in his ears.

Wei Jin’s hand gently stroked his back, her tone soft and tender. “Not too fast~ not too fast~”

Like soothing a baby.

“Let’s just stay like this for a while…”

“I really, really like you…” Wei Jin murmured.

Nestled behind the roses, she wanted to bury herself in his embrace and feel his warmth.

Meng Yue Sheng sighed softly. In the end, he didn’t resist.

They shared the embrace, basking in each other’s presence, letting down their guards completely.

But as with all good things, the moment didn’t last forever.

After a while, Wei Jin let go of Meng Yue Sheng, allowing him to return to his work, while she sat on the sofa with a cushion, quietly watching him.

Meng Yue Sheng was captivating in every way—whether he was reading through documents, jotting down notes, or typing on his computer, every movement was mesmerizing.

Sensing her gaze, he paused.

“Are you getting bored?”

Wei Jin immediately sat up straight. “Not at all! You go ahead and work, I’m happy just watching you.”

“Should I ask my assistant to bring you something to eat? What do you like? Milk tea or juice?”

“Milk tea, please…” Wei Jin blinked. “Do you want me to give you a shoulder massage? I saw you rubbing your shoulder earlier. Does it hurt?”

“It’s nothing.” Meng Yue Sheng picked up the phone to call his assistant, ordering some snacks and milk tea.

“I’m really good at it!” Wei Jin put down her cushion and stood up, making her way over to him.

“Just let me try. I won’t disturb your work.”

Meng Yue Sheng sighed. “Alright.”

He couldn’t say no to her. Though it sounded like she was asking for a favor, it felt more like an innocent suggestion. Still, it stirred something in his heart.

Maybe he was just born unable to refuse Wei Jin.

As Wei Jin walked toward him, she couldn’t help but think how small and delicate he looked from behind. Even though he bore so many responsibilities, at the end of the day, he was just an ordinary omega, carrying so much weight on his shoulders.

Meng Yue Sheng’s pheromones were well-controlled, leaving no scent. On the other hand, she could catch a faint whiff of rum mixed with a hint of sweetness as she got closer.

They were definitely standing closer than the socially acceptable distance.

Before now, Meng Yue Sheng had always thought of Wei Jin as a kid, charmed by her innocence and lively personality. But now, as she stood behind him, he suddenly realized that no matter how much Wei Jin might seem playful or childlike, she was still an alpha—one who could mark him.

Instinctively, Meng Yue Sheng wanted to move away.

But Wei Jin’s hands were already resting lightly on his shoulders.

This is dangerous…

Wei Jin could feel how slim his shoulders were as she gently pressed down, trying to help him relax.

Her fingers curled, applying just the right amount of pressure to massage his muscles. When she felt his body relax under her touch, she was relieved.

Forget it, she thought. Just leave it to me. It’ll be fine. I’m Wei Jin, after all.

Meng Yue Sheng exhaled slowly.

“Are you always this tired?” Wei Jin asked quietly.

Meng Yue Sheng picked up the documents again, flipping through them. He didn’t mind if she saw the contents. “It’s not so bad. I’m used to it…”

“You’ve worked so hard…”

Meng Yue Sheng couldn’t find any words to respond. For some reason, he felt an unexpected wave of emotion rise within him, like his small, fragile heart had been touched ever so gently.

After graduating from university, most of his omega classmates went on to further studies in how to take care of their families, learning how to keep their alpha partners relaxed. But Meng Yue Sheng had chosen to start his own company.

He had sent out resumes to other companies, but once they saw his gender listed as “omega,” they politely turned him down.

Omegas, they said, couldn’t control their pheromones as well, had weaker constitutions compared to betas and alphas, and would face complications during their heat cycles…

There were so many reasons.

But even amid all the rejection, he had seen hope.

He knew omega seniors who had grand ambitions, aiming to surpass even alphas. Despite facing criticism, they had persisted, and now their accomplishments made even alphas envious.

There were also a few omegas without such privileged backgrounds who continued to pursue their dreams.

As for him, he didn’t have lofty ambitions. He just wanted to live a life of freedom…

Was that too much to ask?

Things were much better now than they had been in the early days.

“Do you think I’m boring?” Meng Yue Sheng turned his head slightly, his eyes meeting Wei Jin’s.

Behind his glasses, his gaze was calm and indifferent.

But Meng Yue Sheng knew that was just a facade.

Deep down, he was filled with anticipation, and a little fear, waiting for Wei Jin’s answer. Even though he already knew Wei Jin wouldn’t disappoint him.

Wei Jin’s hands continued their steady rhythm, as if her answer was the most natural thing in the world. “No way. I like you. Anything you do is interesting to me…”

“What if you stop liking me?” Meng Yue Sheng asked.

“Wei Jin will never stop liking Meng Yue Sheng.”

“So, that’s not even a valid question.”

At that moment, a knock came at the door. Meng Yue Sheng’s assistant opened it just a crack, carefully pushing the door open with her foot as she squeezed inside, balancing a tray of sweets and a cup of hot milk tea.

“Oh, um…” The assistant froze upon seeing her boss and Wei Jin together, her face filled with panic. “Am I interrupting…?”

She hurriedly placed the snacks on the coffee table, gave them a quick glance, and with an awkward laugh said, “Pretend I was never here! You two, um… continue… continue…”

Then she quickly dashed out.

Wei Jin stopped her massage and looked at Meng Yue Sheng with puppy-like eyes, her metaphorical tail wagging. “Well… we got caught, huh…”

Their eyes met, and in the end, Meng Yue Sheng gave in, gently pushing her away.

“Go enjoy the snacks…” He stretched his shoulders and neck, feeling much less tense.

Seeing that he didn’t seem bothered, Wei Jin was relieved. She obediently sat down on the sofa and began enjoying the little cakes. When she found something particularly delicious, she eagerly shared it with Meng Yue Sheng.

In the end, the two of them had a pleasant afternoon together.
