The next day, Wei Jin dutifully drove Meng Yue Sheng to work. When they arrived at his company, Meng Yue Sheng made sure the receptionist recognized Wei Jin and told her that if Wei Jin came by in the future, she could go straight up to his office without needing to call him.
The receptionist smiled warmly and said, “Got it.”
Wei Jin didn’t say much more to Meng Yue Sheng, only mentioning that she would visit again if she had time and hoped she wouldn’t disturb him.
Since Wei Jin still had to check in at her own company, the two exchanged only a few words before parting ways.
By the time Wei Jin reached her office, she was already more than half an hour late.
Wei Feng was waiting for her in the office!
As soon as she pushed open the door, her mother unleashed a barrage of sarcastic remarks. “Well, well, well, who do we have here? Only half an hour late? Didn’t feel like staying longer?”
Wei Jin tugged at her collar and raised her hands in surrender. “Mom, you’ve got to understand…”
“Your mind’s clearly not on work anymore. Have you thought about what I mentioned before, about taking a position at one of our subsidiary companies?”
Seeing Wei Jin’s hesitation, Wei Feng snapped, “You don’t think you’re going to spend your whole life as my assistant, do you? It’s not that easy! You can’t just open your mouth and expect a free meal…”
“In a few years, the company will be yours anyway. The sooner you start gaining experience, the more prepared you’ll be. Or do you think you’ll be completely helpless without me?”
“And who’s going to take care of an omega if you just sit around and eat for free? Are you expecting an omega to take care of you?”
Wei Feng leaned back in her office chair, her presence as an alpha radiating pressure. “So? Are you going or not?”
Wei Jin sighed, realizing that her mother was right. She needed to step up and prove herself. Otherwise, in Meng Yue Sheng’s eyes, she’d always be a little girl who needed taking care of.
“Alright, Mom. I’ve made my decision. I’ll go.”
“There you go. Now you’re talking sense. We’ll let Director Zhang move on to a bigger role somewhere else…” Wei Feng crossed her legs and instructed her secretary to start making arrangements.
And just like that, Wei Jin became the CEO of one of the subsidiary companies, and the original Director Zhang was promoted.
“You can start in the next couple of days. Get to know the shareholders and start handling things on your own. Try not to come running to me with problems.”
“I knooowww…” Wei Jin groaned, dramatically collapsing onto the sofa.
Might as well take it easy while she still could. The days ahead were going to be tough…
Wei Jin sent a message to Meng Yue Sheng to give him a heads-up.
Wei Jin: [I’ll probably be pretty busy these next few days, so if I don’t reply right away, I swear I’m not ignoring you! Cute doggy pleading.gif]
Meng Yue Sheng: [That’s fine. I’m busy too, so if I don’t reply, don’t worry.]
Wei Jin: [Alright, alright ~ Doggy nodding.gif]
To avoid getting blindsided at her new company, Wei Jin did her homework in advance. She researched the company’s partners and shareholders, pulling all-nighters for several days straight, gathering files and reports.
Wei Feng, seeing how hard her daughter was working, finally stopped nagging her.
On her first day reporting to the new company, Wei Jin dressed like a full-on businesswoman. Her hair was slicked back with gel, every strand perfectly in place. Even her makeup was fierce and dramatic, giving her a powerful dark queen look. When she wasn’t smiling, she exuded a cold, untouchable vibe.
Sigh… looks like there’s no avoiding this after all. I just want to be a lazy salted fish…
Wei Jin drove herself to work.
When she arrived, all the employees stopped what they were doing, curious about her. After all, in their eyes, she was just someone who had gotten the job through family connections—direct bloodline, no less.
They couldn’t afford to offend her, but they worried she might be some pampered princess who didn’t know anything.
In any case, they were all just watching the drama unfold.
No matter what, the CEO couldn’t fire all the employees, right? It was the shareholders who would be her real challenge!
As soon as Wei Jin entered the office, she was accompanied by an assistant—the previous CEO’s aide—who was responsible for helping her manage the paperwork.
This assistant was a huge help, making sure Wei Jin wasn’t completely on her own.
His surname was Qi, and everyone called him “Assistant Qi.” He was very thorough, giving Wei Jin an overview of the company’s situation and its future plans.
Wei Jin had to handle all the ongoing projects before fully taking over.
The day started with a shareholder meeting.
When Wei Jin entered the conference room, the shareholders were still dragging their feet, clearly trying to test her by showing up late.
The department managers on the side were being overly friendly, their fake smiles giving Wei Jin a headache.
Meetings were already a pain.
By the time all the shareholders arrived, it was half an hour later.
A few of the more senior shareholders made small talk, trying to smooth things over, throwing out empty phrases.
“So, this is Wei Feng’s daughter? Seeing really is believing…”
“Little Wei, we’re old hands in this company. We wouldn’t mislead you about the company’s direction, now would we?”
“Oh, my age is catching up to me, and I’m really starting to feel it. You specifically called us in for this…”
“Let’s not rush things, take your time… There’s no need to hurry. Haste makes waste, you know…”
Wei Jin sat at the head of the table, wearing a polite smile as she nodded along.
“Alright, then I’ll review the company’s finances first. No need for anyone to get anxious,” she said, still smiling.
The alphas exchanged glances, one of them chiming in, “Of course! The accounts are open for review, we’re not breaking any laws here…”
“Good, let’s take a look at the company’s future development plans.”
Assistant Qi helpfully pulled up the PowerPoint, working in sync with Wei Jin.
“How’s the marketing department’s proposal coming along? Director Zhang should’ve finished it by now, right?” Wei Jin flipped through her notes.
Assistant Qi handed her the file. “Here it is.”
The manager of the marketing department stood up, wiping away non-existent sweat from his forehead. “Haha… Director Zhang didn’t quite finalize the negotiations with our partners, but we’re working on it…”
Wei Jin skimmed the document, quickly spotting the key points. It was immediately clear to her that this was an old, discarded proposal repackaged to try and fool her.
Did they really think she’d been slacking off at her previous job?
Did she look that easy to fool?
Well, okay… she probably did seem pretty easy to fool.
Wei Jin glanced at the name tag of the marketing manager—Zhao Desheng.
Then, with a loud slam, she dropped the file onto the table, the force of it making the nearby shareholders and managers jump.
“This is the discarded proposal from last year, isn’t it? Why is it being brought up again?” Wei Jin’s voice was cold as she turned her gaze to the now-embarrassed alpha. “Manager Zhao, take it back and redo it.”
“I want a new proposal in three days. If not, then don’t bother coming back.”
“Three days?!” The marketing manager’s voice shot up in pitch. “Ms. Wei, it’s not that I don’t want to, but three days is just too short… I mean, we—”
He plastered on a pleading smile. “Could you give us a bit more time? I promise I’ll get you a good proposal.”
Wei Jin looked at him coolly. “How long do you need?”
“S-seven days!”
“Fine. Seven days it is.”
Assistant Qi moved on to the next slide of the presentation. “This year’s demand has increased by five percent compared to last year. We’ll need to renegotiate with our suppliers to adjust the terms of our partnership.”
“The companies we’ve had good working relationships with are still willing to cooperate…”
“…so this should be prioritized. What do you think, Ms. Wei?”
Wei Jin waved a hand dismissively. “Go ahead and arrange it.”
The shareholders had little reaction, seeming indifferent to her decisions, clearly adopting a “not my problem” attitude.
“Anything else?” Wei Jin pursed her lips.
Assistant Qi quickly handed her a bottle of water. “There are a few contracts that still need your review.”
After drinking some water, Wei Jin felt a little more energized.
“Alright, bring them over later. If there’s nothing else, let’s adjourn the meeting.”
The shareholders and managers began leaving one by one.
One of the older shareholders who had spoken earlier lingered, moving to sit closer to Wei Jin.
“It’s good that young people have ambition. Just be careful—don’t bite off more than you can chew…”
Wei Jin could hear the calculation in his voice from a mile away.
“Don’t worry, everything’s for the good of the company.”
Wei Jin closed her folder. “I have work to do, so I won’t see you out.”
Before leaving, the old shareholder patted Wei Jin on the shoulder. “Too much purity and you’ll find no fish in the water…”
Once everyone had left, Wei Jin slumped back in her chair, exhausted.
“A bunch of old foxes…”
For the next half month, Wei Jin stayed busy every day, squeezing in some conversations with Meng Yue Sheng whenever she had a spare moment.
To untangle the company’s finances, Wei Jin decided it was easier just to live at the office, only going home to change clothes.
The company’s financial records were such a mess that Wei Jin found herself laughing out of sheer frustration. It was no easy task… Director Zhang had practically saved the company single-handedly. Without his final decisions, the company might have been in debt by now.
What a giant headache…
Xu Xu and Su Yan had returned from their overseas vacation and called Wei Jin to ask when she was free for a meal.
Wei Jin had no time to think about dinner, so she postponed it. They’d meet up after she was done with this round of work.
Thinking about that, Wei Jin felt even more overwhelmed.
Xu Xu had the ultimate carefree life, with an older brother handling everything for her. She didn’t need to do a thing, and no one bothered her. She was born to enjoy life.
After finishing up some documents, Wei Jin asked Assistant Qi to arrange meetings with their partners to discuss future plans.
Her schedule was packed. In just a few days, she had attended four business dinners, successfully negotiating with two partners without giving away too much profit. It was a win-win.
Wei Jin figured she’d have to endure a few more rounds of drinking, but after that, most of the deals would be wrapped up.
Although she was new to the position, the suppliers still had to show respect to Wei Feng. They couldn’t afford to offend her, so they focused on pressuring Wei Jin instead—but not too obviously, of course.
It was all part of the unspoken rules of business, and Wei Jin had no choice but to swallow her frustration.
Thankfully, her pheromones had a naturally boozy scent, making her immune to most alcohol. At least she wouldn’t get drunk.
Assistant Qi handed Wei Jin a new file from the marketing department. The proposal had been redone, and while it was more feasible, the projected profits weren’t great.
Hmm… looks like it needs to be revised again.
Wei Jin circled all the unreasonable parts and sent it back for another round of revisions.
After washing her face in the bathroom, she looked up and saw that even her dark circles had come out.
She looked worse than when she was working under Wei Feng.
Scrolling through her social media feed, she saw nothing but photos of Xu Xu on her vacation abroad.
Great. As if she needed another reminder of how dead inside she felt.
She opened her chat with Meng Yue Sheng, sending a sad puppy emoji to seek comfort.
Wei Jin: [Boohoo, today I missed you so much! Please give me head pats QAQ]
Meng Yue Sheng: [Head pats.gif]
Alright! Back to full health!
