Wei Jin had originally planned to visit Meng Yue Sheng after finishing his work in the next couple of days, but he didn’t expect their meeting to be moved up so unexpectedly.
Today, Qi Zhu had arranged for a dinner at a big restaurant with President Zhu, President Ma, and President Li. When Wei Jin and Qi Zhu arrived, President Ma had already set things up for the group. He grinned mischievously, his face full of wrinkles, “Once we meet, we’re all brothers, like family! Haha! What’s the point in discussing business with family? Let’s just relax, and we can talk about work later! Haha!”
He then arranged for a “companion” for each of the bosses, and of course, Wei Jin wasn’t an exception. To his left sat Qi Zhu, and to his right was a clean, innocent-looking young man from university. His face showed signs of forced endurance, evoking pity. Every time one of the bosses raised their glass, the companions would have to drink along, and the young man’s eyes turned red, but he kept a safe distance from Wei Jin.
Wei Jin quickly figured it out—this guy had principles.
So, while one of the old bosses, blushing and slurring his words, started reminiscing about his glorious past with the others nodding in agreement, Wei Jin leaned in and spoke quietly to the innocent-looking young man.
“What’s your story?”
The young man, still somewhat sober, glanced at Wei Jin and responded quietly, “My parents passed away, and I have a younger brother to take care of.”
Wei Jin thought to himself, Well, damn, that’s rough.
The young man continued with a bitter smile, “I don’t have any other options. This job pays well, and I’m just a beta, with no pheromones. I don’t attract alphas much, so as long as I can handle the drinking, it’s fine…”
One of the bosses raised his glass again, his words slurring, “Come on, come on, drink up! If you don’t drink, you’re not giving me face…”
And so, everyone had another round.
Qi Zhu, who had to drive later, was drinking only water but still had to put on a show, pretending to drink it all up while saying, “I’ve downed it, giving you all face! You go ahead, drink as you wish!”
White wine, yellow wine, red wine—they mixed them all together by the end.
Even Qi Zhu, who hadn’t touched alcohol, was feeling a bit dizzy just from the smell of the alcohol in the room.
Wei Jin wasn’t drunk, but the combination of alpha pheromones and alcohol in the air made his head throb.
Seeing that the young man on his right couldn’t take it anymore, and figuring the bosses were too drunk to notice if one of the companions disappeared, Wei Jin discreetly told him to leave.
After several more rounds, Wei Jin, still relatively sober, was being called “brother” by the other bosses, all of them saying things like, “How could I not support a brother’s business?”
During the final round, Wei Jin quickly pulled out the contracts and got the bosses to take a look. Of course, they wouldn’t reject a “brother” and called their assistants over to sign the papers.
As the bosses were all nearing their limits and their companions were passed out under the table, Wei Jin waved his hand, arranging for everyone to be sent home. The bosses were moved, one of them saying, “You’re a real brother! I’ll drink another one for you…”
The assistants quickly escorted them out, some of them half-carrying their bosses.
In the end, only Wei Jin and Qi Zhu remained, looking at the companions lying under the table before asking the manager to take care of them.
They had been drinking since the afternoon, and by the time they finished, the room was filled with smoke and chaos, an absolute mess.
Just as Wei Jin was preparing to return to the office, the door to his private room opened, and at the same time, the door to another private room across the hall opened as well.
The first person to step out was none other than the person Wei Jin had been thinking about—Meng Yue Sheng.
Meng Yue Sheng’s expression was cold, and he didn’t even glance in Wei Jin’s direction. He simply wanted to leave. However, the man following closely behind him tried to grab Meng Yue Sheng’s arm, but Meng easily dodged.
The man, dressed in a suit and clearly drunk, his face flushed red, didn’t even notice Wei Jin standing nearby.
“Young Master Meng, why are you acting so distant…? It must be hard for an omega like you to survive in the business world, right? Our partnership isn’t impossible, you know. If you’re willing to give up a bit more profit, then we can…let’s just be friends, okay?”
The greasy man rubbed his hands together, still trying to grab Meng Yue Sheng’s arm.
“President Zhao, there’s nothing left to discuss regarding our partnership,” Meng Yue Sheng’s disdain was barely concealed, though he maintained a basic level of politeness. “This is where we part ways.”
“Hey, come on, young Ma—” Before he could finish his sentence, he was sent flying back into the private room.
“Ah! Ow, what the hell…”
Meng Yue Sheng finally looked up and noticed the person who had kicked President Zhao back into the room. When he saw that it was Wei Jin, his expression shifted from impatience to surprise, with a hint of joy in his voice, “What are you doing here?”
Wei Jin brushed off his pants, pretending to dust away nonexistent dirt. “I was here for business…”
As Meng Yue Sheng moved closer, he caught a whiff of the strong smell of alcohol clinging to Wei Jin, stinging his eyes.
“Who was that guy?” Wei Jin asked, tilting his head toward Meng Yue Sheng.
“A business partner.”
“Oh…a business partner…” Wei Jin scratched his forehead. “That kick I gave him…that won’t be a problem, right?”
Meng Yue Sheng couldn’t help but find Wei Jin’s question amusing. He wasn’t sure if Wei Jin was drunk, but something about him seemed endearing.
“No problem at all. Besides, we didn’t finalize the deal anyway. We won’t be working together in the future…”
“Did you drink? How are you getting home? Are you going back to your place or the office?”
“Me? Qi Zhu?” Wei Jin’s head had been pounding since he saw that other alpha trying to touch Meng Yue Sheng, and he was feeling a bit dizzy.
Qi Zhu popped his head out from the private room at the right moment, “Any orders for me, boss?”
“Nothing, just checking…” Wei Jin looked at Meng Yue Sheng. “Why didn’t you bring your assistant with you?”
Meng Yue Sheng’s eyes flickered when he glanced at Qi Zhu. “My assistant’s timid and can’t handle alcohol, so I didn’t bring him.”
“So you came alone?”
“Yeah, but—” Before Meng Yue Sheng could finish, Wei Jin suddenly leaned on him.
“—What’s the matter…”
With Wei Jin pressed up against him, the throbbing in Meng Yue Sheng’s temples worsened. Despite the awkwardness of running into each other in such an embarrassing situation, Meng Yue Sheng suddenly felt like it didn’t matter anymore once he was in Wei Jin’s arms.
Wei Jin’s breath, warm and slightly alcoholic, brushed against Meng Yue Sheng’s ear.
“Coming alone to negotiate with an alpha… aren’t you afraid he might try something…”
“Hm?”
“I saw him trying to grab your arm…”
“But I dodged it. He didn’t actually touch me,” Meng Yue Sheng’s voice was cool and logical. “I’ve taken some self-defense classes. If it came to it, he wouldn’t stand a chance against me…”
“You…” Meng Yue Sheng’s tone had a slight teasing edge. “Are you jealous?”
“Are you actually drunk?”
Wei Jin’s breath warmed Meng Yue Sheng’s neck as he hugged him tighter.
“Can’t I be jealous?”
“You can, but there’s no need. Why would you care about someone who doesn’t matter?”
Meng Yue Sheng’s neck started to heat up where Wei Jin was pressed against it, and a hint of his pheromones began to leak out.
A faint, cool mint scent gradually spread from Meng Yue Sheng’s neck, clearing Wei Jin’s head. But he couldn’t help but want to get closer.
Their embrace shifted into something like a back hug, with Wei Jin’s hot breath falling onto the back of Meng Yue Sheng’s neck bit by bit.
“Wait—” Meng Yue Sheng quickly covered the source of his pheromones, but not before a few gentle kisses landed on the back of his hand.
“You smell so nice… Meng Yue Sheng…” Wei Jin murmured, sniffing the spot Meng Yue Sheng was trying to block.
“Are you…about to go into heat…”
Heat?
No, that wasn’t supposed to happen for a while.
“No…” Wei Jin muttered. “I just like the smell…”
Seeing that things were about to escalate, Meng Yue Sheng quickly pressed down on Wei Jin’s arm. “Let’s go home, okay?”
“Where?”
Meng Yue Sheng chuckled softly, “To my place.”
Wei Jin, clearly not as drunk as he seemed, smirked. “Alright, let’s go home.”
He let go of Meng Yue Sheng and held his hand. “Qi Zhu!”
Qi Zhu popped his head out once again, “Yes, sir?”
“Get someone to send those guys in the other room home…”
“Did you drive here? Have you been drinking?” Wei Jin asked, sniffing Meng Yue Sheng’s collar.
“I called for a driver. They should be here any minute.”
“Oh, then Qi Zhu, drive my car home. You can bring it to the office tomorrow.”
Meng Yue Sheng’s phone rang. “Alright, I’ll be right down.”
“The driver’s here.”
Wei Jin nodded. “Alright, Qi Zhu, you handle things here. We’re leaving…”
And with that, they left coolly.
As soon as they got in the car, Wei Jin snuggled up to Meng Yue Sheng, playing with his fingers as if he were trying to figure out a puzzle.
Eventually, Meng Yue Sheng had to clasp Wei Jin’s wandering fingers in his own, interlocking them to keep her still.
The car ride was quiet, save for the sound of their breathing.
Feeling bored, Wei Jin curled up, then wrinkled her nose at the smell of her own clothes.
She was repulsed by the lingering stench of mixed pheromones and alcohol.
I just hugged Meng Yue Sheng like this…
Wei Jin pouted like a sad puppy.
She wanted to get closer to Meng Yue Sheng but held back, scooting toward the car door instead.
“What’s wrong?” Meng Yue Sheng, noticing how she shrank back, squeezed her hand gently.
“I… I smell so bad…” Wei Jin sniffled. “You smell nice, but I stink…”
“And I hugged you just now…”
“Waaah…”
Meng Yue Sheng chuckled and pulled her into his arms, “I don’t mind…”
“I drank too. I don’t smell good either…”
Wei Jin squirmed a little, then sniffed his shoulder again. “Nope, you still smell nice…”
“So the alcohol’s really hitting you now?”
Meng Yue Sheng waved two fingers in front of Wei Jin’s face, “How many fingers am I holding up?”
“Yay!” Wei Jin raised their clasped hands and leaned her head against Meng Yue Sheng’s shoulder, snuggling into his arm. “So nice, so snuggly…”
“Like a little kid…” Meng Yue Sheng’s eyes sparkled with a hint of amusement as he playfully teased, “Is Wei Jin a little kid?”
“No!”
“Not what?”
“Meng Yue Sheng, I’m not drunk…”
“Oh, really…” Meng Yue Sheng pretended to be disappointed. “Guess I won’t get to hear Wei Jin act all cute, then…”
“…”
Wei Jin raised their intertwined hands and kissed the back of Meng Yue Sheng’s hand.
“Alright…”
“Wei Jin is a little kid… Wei Jin will always be Meng Yue Sheng’s little kid…”
“Snuggly brother~”
She rubbed her cheek against his hand. “Is that good, brother?”
Meng Yue Sheng turned his face away, his ears turning bright red.
