Chapter 80: Seems Like She’s His Beloved

Receiving the system’s affirmative response, Su Jinshi finally breathed a deep sigh of relief. She was just one level away from reaching Lv20, which would unlock more items in the mall. There should be more useful medicines available then. However, the system only indicated temporary stability, implying potential danger remained.

Su Jinshi didn’t dare sleep.

Given the relatively backward medical conditions in Great Xi, Shen Shilang’s wound indeed had a high risk of infection and inflammation. With Shen Shilang still unconscious, Su Jinshi watched him intently, not daring to blink.

As night fell, the moon hung high. Outside the tent, it was quiet except for the occasional footsteps of patrolling soldiers. Wei Zhaoxian and Wei Jianlang hadn’t returned since they left. Zhou Cheng informed Guan Changping that they were still discussing the incident in Quan Guanran’s tent.

Wei Jianming, for disobeying military orders and causing a series of consequences, was punished with 50 lashes and demoted to a common soldier again. Unusually, Wei Jianming offered no rebuttals or excuses, silently accepting his punishment. Though he couldn’t suppress his cries of pain during the lashing, it was a marked improvement from before.

Suddenly, Su Jinshi’s phone screen flashed red again, though not as urgently as in the afternoon.

Su Jinshi, who had already bought fever-reducing medicine, quickly administered it to Shen Shilang.

By the time Guan Changping noticed Shen Shilang’s fever, his condition had already stabilized.

Though still slightly warm, his temperature was gradually decreasing.

Shen Shilang, in his daze, felt someone gently changing his wound dressing. Even in his hazy state, he recognized Su Jinshi’s touch. Soon after, he felt cold, shivering, before feeling uncomfortably hot again. Then, he sensed someone feed him a familiar pill – one Su Jinshi had given him before. Shen Shilang was certain that Su Jinshi was caring for him.

“Finally!” Su Jinshi had been waiting for the store upgrade, “That was not easy at all.”

Looking at Shen Shilang again, she noticed his feverish flush had receded, his complexion becoming more normal.

“Jinshi…” Shen Shilang murmured.

Su Jinshi quickly bought an intermediate-level communication box, allowing her to talk to Shen Shilang for longer periods. “Shen Shilang!” she called out urgently.

“Jinshi… Jinshi…”

But she soon realized he was just sleep-talking, not truly awake.

Meanwhile, doctors periodically checked on him. Shen Shilang’s condition hadn’t worsened.

Suddenly, heavy footsteps approached, and Wei Zhaoxian and Wei Jianlang entered the tent. Both looked exhausted, Wei Zhaoxian’s face even paler than in the afternoon.

“General,” Guan Changping and Zhou Cheng stood to greet them.

“How is Shilang?” Wei Zhaoxian asked, his eyes bloodshot.

“Several military doctors have just checked, and young master Shen’s condition has stabilized. All the doctors assured us that his injury won’t be a problem,” Guan Changping said.

“Young Master Shen had a brief fever at night, and we called for a doctor. But by the time the doctor arrived, Young Master Shen’s fever had already started to subside. The doctor checked his pulse and said his fever was receding, and now it’s completely gone,” Zhou Cheng added.

They also found it a bit strange that the fever had subsided on its own, without even needing medicine.

Perhaps heaven was protecting Shen Shilang.

“That’s good,” Wei Zhaoxian said. “Heaven has finally done something good for the Shen family.”

Su Jinshi didn’t mind that they were unaware of her role in Shen Shilang’s recovery.

As Wei Zhaoxian and Wei Jianlang observed Shen Shilang, he murmured “Jinshi” again.

Wei Zhaoxian turned his head in confusion and asked Wei Jianlang, “Did you hear what he called?”

Wei Jianlang shook his head and said, “It sounded like ‘Jin’ something, I didn’t hear clearly.”

Wei Zhaoxian then turned to look at Guan Changping and Zhou Cheng.

Guan Changping said, “It sounded like ‘Jinshi’ to me, sir.”

“Jinshi…” Shen Shilang called out a few more times.

This time everyone heard it clearly.

It really was Jinshi.

“Sounds like a girl’s name,” Wei Jianlang remarked. “Could it be someone Shilang met in the capital?”

“We should ask him about it,” Wei Zhaoxian mused. “Calling her name even when delirious – she must be his sweetheart.”

Wei Jianlang was surprised: “Shilang already has a sweetheart? He hasn’t been in the capital for long!”

Seeing that Shen Shilang was no longer in mortal danger, Wei Zhaoxian relaxed and teased Wei Jianlang, “Yes, Shilang has found a sweetheart in such a short time in the capital, and here you are, just standing here in surprise.”

He spent all his time in the military, where would he have time to meet a sweetheart?

“‘Jinshi’ is quite a nice name,” Wei Zhaoxian noted. “We should investigate which family she’s from.” To determine if she could be trusted, he thought.

“Father, you should go rest and have the doctor check your wound again. I’ll stay here and watch over Shilang,” Wei Jianlang said.

Since returning, Wei Zhaoxian hadn’t rested at all. His injuries had only been briefly treated before he went to discuss future deployments with Quan Guanran. It was unclear how his wounds were now.

“Alright,” Wei Zhaoxian nodded, “Call me immediately if anything happens.”

Wei Jianlang agreed, and Wei Zhaoxian left.

Wei Jianlang told Zhou Cheng and Guan Changping to rest, but Zhou Cheng said, “Young General, you haven’t rested all day either. I’ll stay, and we can take turns watching.”

“Very well,” Wei Jianlang nodded and told Guan Changping to go look after Wei Zhaoxian.

So Wei Jianlang and Zhou Cheng remained in the tent.

Su Jinshi, feeling fatigued, struggled to keep her eyes open and dozed off for a while without realizing it.

But she would wake up startled after a short while, hurriedly looking at her phone to see Shen Shilang still sleeping and no unusual alerts from the system.
