Chapter 19: Lu Sheng Wakes Up
Yi Han knew very well that Lu Chichuan didn’t really want to marry Zhou Yanguan. He was just sulking because his wife left farewell letters for everyone.
He never believed that his wife would do such things. Thinking about what his boss had done over the years, he figured it was only right.
Yi Han stood quietly beside Lu Chichuan, watching him check and sign one document after another.
The ringing phone broke the silence in the room, and Yi Han quickly stepped outside to answer it.
“Hello, what’s up?”
“Assistant Yi, we’ve located Xu He. He’s had plastic surgery and changed his identity. Give us some more time, and we’ll definitely bring him to you.” The voice on the phone was rough and urgent.
“Okay, make it quick. After this, President Lu won’t treat you unfairly.” “Yes!”
As soon as he hung up, Lu Chichuan rushed out of the office, hurriedly putting on his suit jacket, and he couldn’t hide his joy. “Hurry! Yi Han, let’s go to the hospital! My sister woke up!”
“Miss Lu is fine but needs more rest.” “Okay, thank you, doctor.”
After the doctor left, Yi Han asked him to keep it confidential. Lu Chichuan nodded, understanding. Yi Han then closed the door to let the siblings catch up.
“Ah Chi, come here so I can see you properly,” Lu Sheng’s voice was weak, but her gentle tone made Lu Chichuan’s eyes turn red from standing a meter away. He went to her bedside and cried like a child.
“Sis… you finally woke up. I’m so sorry… I’m guilty…”
“Why would it be your fault? Look, I’m fine, right?” Lu Sheng gently patted his back, just like she used to when putting him to sleep as a child. “You’re grown now, but still act like a kid.”
After a long while, Lu Chichuan calmed down and sat beside Lu Sheng, obediently peeling apples for her. Lu Sheng couldn’t help but ask, “What about Li Mo? Why isn’t she here? Didn’t you tell her?”
His hand paused as he peeled the apple. “Why do you want to see her? What’s so good about her?”
Lu Sheng took the apple he handed her, looking worried. “Did you two get divorced? Is it because of that incident?”
Lu Chichuan didn’t respond. Instead, he took out a letter from a nearby drawer and handed it to Lu Sheng.
Lu Sheng took it with confusion and, after reading, was shocked. “Li Mo is dead? No way! Li Mo wouldn’t harm me! Ah Chi… cough, cough…”
Lu Sheng became too agitated and started coughing. Lu Chichuan, both anxious and angry, poured her a glass of warm water. “Sis, don’t defend her. Can’t you recognize her handwriting?”
His voice carried some warm anger, and Lu Sheng paused for a moment, pulling him closer.
“Ah Chi, listen to your sister. This is all just a conspiracy; Li Mo didn’t do it!”
“What do you mean? A conspiracy?”
Lu Chichuan found it hard to believe his ears. In that moment, his heart shattered. What she said next made him afraid to breathe deeply.
“I think you saw the video on my phone and believed Li Mo was having an affair with Jiang Yi. When I received the video message, I was having tea at the Nian tea house. I rushed to Nan’an as soon as I saw it.
As I passed by a tea room, I seemed to hear Xu He’s voice, so I stopped…
“This plan is perfect! She looks about 70% like that woman!” Xu He’s rough voice made Jiang Yi a bit scared. “Lower your voice; we don’t want to be discovered! This all depends on that Zhou family member. Once she sits in the position of Mrs. Lu, the benefits for you and me will be huge!”
“What’s the next step?”
“Ha!” Jiang Yi chuckled lightly. “Let’s send those two from the Li family to meet the King of Hell. I don’t believe Li Mo won’t hate him and get a divorce!”
…
“I carefully opened my phone to record, but I got so caught up in it that I didn’t notice when a waitress came in…
“Miss, what are you doing here?” The waitress’s clear voice interrupted the conversation.
“Uh… nothing.” Lu Sheng hurriedly pushed her away and rushed out…
“Later, as I was heading to Nan’an, a truck came straight at me. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t avoid it. Just before I passed out, I seemed to hear Zhou Yanguan’s voice saying the word ‘reward,’ and then I blacked out…”
“Ah Chi, you really wronged Li Mo…” Lu Sheng’s voice turned choked.
He suddenly remembered what Li Ye had said when they first met: “May you get what you wish for.”
He got it but lost it. Now he would rather not have gotten it at all, to begin with, or have died at the Cheng family’s hands…
Losing was scarier than not getting it because it came with a process. The sweeter the process, the more painful the loss…
He swallowed hard, opening his mouth. He felt an unprecedented weakness wash over him, his arms hanging limp at his sides as he sat there, his vision starting to blur.
How ridiculous! It wasn’t her… What did he do? He caused her family to fall apart, made her suffer humiliation, and drove her to suicide. All the love she gave him turned into the knife that killed her…
She clearly said it wasn’t her; why couldn’t he believe it…
It hurt so much; it was spilled water, and he felt powerless…
Lu Chichuan felt cold all over. Suddenly, darkness engulfed him, and he fainted…
