Chapter 22: Can I Take Her Home?
Zhou Yanguan confirmed that no one was around before she locked the hospital room door and quietly approached the bedside.
She opened a new syringe, tapped the vial, and the needle made a sizzling sound as it sucked in the last few drops of medication.
After expelling the air from the syringe, she spoke, “Sister Lu Sheng, it’s not that I want to harm you. If you need to blame someone, blame yourself for knowing too much.”
Zhou Yanguan lifted a corner of the blanket, preparing to inject Lu Sheng in the arm, when the door was kicked open. Zhou Yanguan was so startled that she dropped the syringe on the floor.
“What are you doing?!” Lu Cichuan rushed in, gripping her wrist tightly.
The door lock had been broken long ago…
“She wants me dead,” Lu Sheng slowly sat up.
“Ah!” Zhou Yanguan screamed, her eyes wide with fear as she looked at the person who pretended to be asleep, her voice trembling violently. “You… you…”
Lu Sheng wore a faint smile as she stood in front of Zhou Yanguan, her gentle words cutting like a knife. “I’ve been awake for a while, Miss Zhou. Aren’t you happy?”
Happy? She was about to go crazy! Lu Sheng was awake; everything was ruined…
Lu Cichuan looked at the terrified Zhou Yanguan, disdainfully pushing her aside, and asked with concern, “Sister, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Lu Cichuan sighed in relief. Twenty minutes earlier, Yi Han had called, saying Zhou Yanguan was going to visit Lu Sheng in the hospital. He was anxious and panicked; the stubble on his face made him look much older, and the smell of alcohol on him was overwhelming…
Zhou Yanguan crouched on the floor, her eyes wide, repeating, “How is this possible? How is this possible…”
At that moment, the hospital door opened, and a man was thrown in front of her.
“Ah!” she cried out, and after a moment, she cautiously looked at the man’s face.
It was Xu He!
Her face instantly turned pale, panic, fear, and guilt etched all over it…
“Miss Zhou, do you not recognize him? Do you need Yi to introduce him?” Yi Han’s voice was cold and clear. He then turned to Lu Cichuan and reported, “Mr. Lu, this man is Xu He. He had surgery, changed his voice, and switched identities; now he goes by Xu Fu. We tracked him down after following Miss Zhou.”
Lu Cichuan’s eyes turned crimson, veins bulging in his hands. He grabbed Xu He, who was groaning on the floor, his voice filled with rage, choking back disbelief.
His brother, who had fought alongside him in Yian City, had betrayed him and harmed his beloved. He punched Xu He in the face and then grabbed his neck, asking, “Why? Why did you do this…?”
“Cough, cough… I just hate you. I helped you secure so many deals, and you… you didn’t even give me the position of branch manager, saying I lack experience and qualifications… Haha… Let me tell you, that woman, Li Mo, tastes… mmm, pretty good. Those guys were… very satisfied… haha…”
Xu He’s face turned red, and those words cut through him like knives, making his grip tighten. Xu He was on the verge of losing consciousness, and Lu Sheng quickly grabbed Lu Cichuan’s arm.
“Cichuan! Let go! He can’t die…”
Yes, he couldn’t die. He needed to endure his torment; dying so easily would be too comfortable!
Lu Cichuan suddenly threw Xu He to the ground, who hit the floor hard and let out a muffled groan, falling silent. Yi Han had people take him away…
Lu Cichuan panted heavily, tears streaming down his face. Zhou Yanguan cowered in the corner, trembling.
Sang Yuwan entered, holding Li Mo’s ashes, her expression cold. Her emotionless voice made Zhou Yanguan break down again…
“What are you afraid of, Miss Zhou? Shouldn’t we know about the things you’ve done?”
She handed the ashes to Lu Sheng and tossed the documents she was holding in front of Zhou Yanguan. “Four years ago, you bribed doctors to say Mo’s baby had stopped developing and needed to be aborted. Six months ago, you bribed an employee of the Lu Corporation to kill Li’s father and mother, deceiving them into thinking Mo had killed someone, causing their immediate deaths…
You also had a girl altered to look like Mo, filming those videos with Jiang Yi.
As for those letters… they weren’t even written by Mo! She’d remember the weather when she wrote, but there were no envelopes!”
“It wasn’t me! …It wasn’t me!” Zhou Yanguan threw the documents aside, crawling to Lu Cichuan’s side, clutching his clothes, weeping pitifully, her soft voice hiding a venomous heart. “Cichuan… it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me!”
Zhou Yanguan screamed, pointing at everyone. “It was them! They framed me! Everything is fake! Cichuan… you have to believe me…”
Lu Cichuan closed his eyes. The savior he thought he had was actually the murderer; he had protected her, but she had killed so many people…
“Don’t call me that… Get lost…”
“Cichuan…”
Lu Cichuan kicked her away, and she curled up on the ground, breaking into a cold sweat from the pain.
He charged at her, gripping her delicate neck, furiously questioning her, “Why did you do this? Mo has never harmed you! How could you be so vicious? Why don’t you just die?”
“Cichuan, calm down!” Lu Sheng returned Li Mo’s ashes to Sang Yuwan and rushed forward, trying to make him let go.
But he wouldn’t listen. He was like a demon at that moment!
“Yi Han! Quickly pull him away!” The bodyguards struggled to separate them. Lu Cichuan’s eyes were bloodshot: “Let me go! I want to kill her! I want to kill her…” Lu Cichuan began to cry…
It was Li Mo who had brought warmth into his life, who had given him motivation to move forward, who had sparked his longing for the future…
He had long forgotten that his relentless efforts were all for her, that he had once promised her, “I will always treat you well.” But in the end, he had broken that promise…
Promises were so cheap to utter, easily heard but rarely felt…
Zhou Yanguan lay on the ground, gasping for air. Suddenly, she burst into laughter. “Haha… So what if I did it? Why can she crush me the moment she appears and have everything I want? Why does Lu Cichuan love her? My love wasn’t any less than hers!”
Enduring the pain, she staggered to her feet and walked in front of Lu Cichuan. “She should die!”
Lu Cichuan was held back, trapped, desperately struggling to kill the madwoman before him. He yelled in despair, “Let me go! I want to kill her!”
“Take her away and lock her up,” Yi Han waved his hand, and two tall men pulled her out.
As she was dragged away, she didn’t forget to stab him in the heart with her words: “Lu Cichuan, Li Mo’s death was because of your help! You didn’t trust her; it was you who killed her! You are the executioner!”
“Ah!” Lu Cichuan collapsed on the ground, his arms dangling helplessly at his sides. “I… killed her…”
Sang Yuwan’s eyes reddened as she tightly held the small urn. Mo, you can finally rest easy now. The ones who harmed you will receive their just deserts…
Sang Yuwan sniffled and said to Lu Sheng, who was comforting Lu Cichuan, “Sister Lu Sheng, I’ll leave now…”
“Okay…” Lu Sheng opened her mouth, wanting to say something but ultimately held back.
Sang Yuwan glanced back at the hopeless Lu Cichuan before turning to leave.
He slowly lifted his eyelids, glancing at Sang Yuwan, who had disappeared at the door of the hospital room, then hurriedly got up and stumbled after her.
“Cichuan!” Lu Sheng was startled by his reaction and suddenly thought of something, not chasing after him.
“Sang Yuwan!” The man’s hoarse voice made her stop.
She took a deep breath, turned around, and coldly asked, “Is there something you need, Mr. Lu?”
“I…” Lu Cichuan didn’t dare look her in the eye, feeling frightened. He gathered his courage, clenched his fists, and asked, “Can I take her home?”
His eyes were filled with regret, longing, guilt, and fear…
Sang Yuwan found it ridiculous. Poisonous weeds bloom beautifully, yet the one who harmed her wants to take her home…
“She has no home anymore; you destroyed it with your own hands. If you have any conscience left, release Li Yan immediately.”
Lu Cichuan swallowed hard. “He committed suicide…”
“Committed suicide…” Sang Yuwan found it hard to believe. But upon reflection, it was a form of liberation for him; at last, they could reunite as a family…
“Ha, Lu Cichuan, you’re nothing but an ungrateful person.
