I’m Just a Passerby in a Time-Travel Rebirth Novel | Chapter 37

Hearing the news, Tang Momo couldn’t help but feel nervous. Could it be that she had guessed correctly? Xu Xiaoyun had actually gone so far as to take action against Gu Chengze’s grandmother.

At this moment, the person who just spoke continued. “Fortunately, the girl from the Xu family was also on the mountain this morning, otherwise it would have been too late by the time others found out.”

If someone fell down the mountain and got hurt, and if the bleeding went unnoticed, it would be a big problem. After all, there were plenty of wild animals in the mountains. There were usually few people around in the morning, and if the smell of blood attracted animals, the consequences would be unimaginable.

“Was the fall serious?”

Zhang Xiaoli asked with concern.

“It’s probably quite serious; otherwise, why would her family take her to the city?”

The speaker was also uncertain about Zhao Xiuli’s injury.

“Older people cannot withstand such a fall.”

Zhang Xiaoli’s face was filled with worry. After all, she felt grateful to Zhao Xiuli, and this wasn’t exactly a good time to visit.

Since she was taken to the hospital in the city, they would wait until they returned to visit.

Tang Momo lowered her head and stared at her toes. It wasn’t that she deliberately thought badly of Xu Xiaoyun, but after that strange encounter she had with her yesterday. She couldn’t help but wonder whether it was an accident or intentional.

“Momo, what are you thinking about? I’ve called you several times.”

Tang Momo shook her head. “It’s nothing. I just think there have been too many accidents lately, and everyone needs to be more careful.”

“That’s right. Not long ago, someone in our factory also fell and broke a leg.”

Zhang Xiaoli nodded in agreement, and then told the three children who were still studying. “You must be careful when going out, do you understand?”

Seeing that they all listened to her, Zhang Xiaoli let out a sigh of relief. She turned to Tang Momo, “Let’s go see your Father first.”

Tang Momo nodded. This was her first time visiting Tang Dajun since she arrived here.

Zhang Xiaoli thought for a moment; their last visit was during the Qingming Festival. At that time, life had been tough enough for the living, so naturally there hadn’t been much time to see him.

It has been almost half a year since the Qingming Festival, and the grass around the grave has grown very deep. Tang Momo took Tang Jianan and the twins to clean up the weeds and debris around the grave.

The offerings for the worship were prepared the night before, and Zhang Xiaoli arranged them one by one. “Dajun, these are all your favorite foods. Last time we were in such a hurry that I forgot to come and tell you the good news.”

Zhang Xiaoli sat there and told them about their current situation, and then waved to the younger ones to come over and say a few words.

Tang Momo was particularly sincere in her offering. Although she wasn’t the original owner, since she had taken over the original owner’s body, she felt responsible for treating them well.

After leaving Tang Dajun’s grave, they went directly back to the Tang family. All the Tang family members went out to work, even the younger ones were not at home.

Zhang Xiaoli took them directly back to the backyard. They left in a hurry that day and just left the lock casually. The remaining things in the house were not organized. Now the house looked like a mess.

“Let’s arrange what can be used and throw away what can’t. We don’t know when we’ll be back next time.”

Since they don’t have relatives here anymore, Zhang Xiaoli felt no attachment to the place.

Soon they sorted out all the usable things, and Zhang Xiaoli arranged who to give it to.

By the time the rest of the Tang family came back after hearing the news, they had already given away everything.

“Zhang Xiaoli, those things belong to my old Tang family. What right do you have to give them to others?”

Chen Lanying gritted her teeth.

“These are all the things given to us after the division of the family. I can give them to whoever I want.”

By now, Zhang Xiaoli also knows that even though they are Dajun’s parents, there are some things that can’t be taken back once they are said.

She never expected they would still have the face to ask for these things. She originally thought that after the last time, they would never interact with each other, but it seemed that she underestimated the thickness of their face.

Seeing that the things were no longer coming back, Wu Haiying hurriedly tugged on Tang Erjun’s sleeves. Their eldest son was also of marriageable age, and it would be nice for him to live here once he settled down; at least it was spacious.

Tang Erjun hesitated for a moment but thinking of his son’s marriage. He finally spoke up, “Sister-in-law, what about this yard?”

“Oh, you’re talking about this yard. Just now, Aunt Wang next door mentioned that her youngest son will get married in the second half of the year. They don’t have enough space in their house, so she asked if I could lend them this place for a while, and I agreed.”

How could Zhang Xiaoli not know what they were planning?

“Sister-in-law, we’re all family after all; you can’t be this ruthless.”

Wu Haiying did not expect that Zhang Xiaoli would rather let outsiders live in the house than leave it to them.

“Aunt Wang isn’t staying for free; she gave me ten yuan. If you offer more, I can consider it, since our families have long since severed ties.”

Zhang Xiaoli reminded them with a gentle look.

“Ten yuan? Why don’t you just rob her?”

Wu Haiying couldn’t help but raise her voice when she heard that it cost ten yuan.

“Nobody is forcing you to take it. From now on, this place will be Aunt Wang’s. I’ve already given her the keys, so don’t get to the wrong door.”

In the past two years, Aunt Wang had often helped them if she could, so Zhang Xiaoli had no intention of taking the money at first. After all, it was just sitting empty, and lending it out was better than letting people from the front yard have it.

But Aunt Wang insisted on giving her the money, suggesting she couldn’t stay for free. It seemed that she had expected that the people in the front yard would cause trouble.

“Mother, look at them; they’re giving the house to outsiders.”

Wu Haiying placed her hopes on Chen Lanying.

It’s a pity that Chen Lanying didn’t say anything. She just stared at the back of Tang Momo and her family leaving. Thinking of Tang Xiaoxue’s situation in the city, she felt a million regrets. Why did she agree to sever the relationship at that time? If she didn’t agree, she could have openly gone into the city with them now.

Hearing what the second family said, Chen Lanying couldn’t help but glare at her. “What are you making noise about? Can’t you come up with a plan yourself?”

“What plan can I think of? She wants ten yuan. Isn’t the family fund supposed to pay for that?”

Wu Haiying said angrily. It’s no good if the family isn’t separated. Chen Lanying wants to control everything, and she hasn’t saved any money for herself in all these years.

Sometimes, she thinks it would be better to separate the family than to live like this, but she doesn’t dare to say it openly. She only feels safe whispering a few words in her own room.

After leaving the Tang family, they casually asked about Zhao Xiuli’s condition and heard that she had been sent to the city hospital. It didn’t seem serious, but considering her age, it was better to go to a big hospital for a thorough check-up.

The Gu family knew that Gu Chengze sent money every month because of Zhao Xiuli, so they were quite worried about her health. When they heard that she was injured, they sent her directly to the city hospital.

No matter what, the hospital in the city is better than the small clinic in the brigade.

“I heard that the girl from the Xu family went with them too. It’s thanks to her that this accident was discovered in time.”

Everyone praised Xu Xiaoyun again.

It wasn’t surprising that Tang Momo had assumptions. Why did Xu Xiaoyun go up the mountain so early? Did she know what would happen today and prepare for it ahead of time?

Thinking about this, Tang Momo became even more angry. If Xu Xiaoyun knew about this in advance, shouldn’t she have stopped Zhao Xiuli from going up the mountain?

Even if she was fine in the previous life, who can guarantee that she will be fine this time?

Regardless of this situation or Zhao Xiuli’s fall. Tang Momo believed it was unforgivable for her to allow this to happen, despite knowing what was coming. She was too selfish. For her own desires, she didn’t care about human life at all.

“Let’s go. If we return early enough, we can still visit the hospital.” Zhang Xiaoli couldn’t help but encourage them to go back when she saw Tang Momo looking down, lost in thought.

After Xu Xiaoyun returned from quarreling with Tang Momo, her mother caught her and started talking about matchmaking. This time, she was very impatient. She couldn’t help but argue back. “I’ve already said to take it slow. Take it slow! I’ve already made the arrangements.”

“What arrangements can you make? Is it really what your sister-in-law said? Are you still thinking about that man from the Gu family?”

Mother Xu looked at her suspiciously.

“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. Just give me two more months. If by then it still doesn’t work out, I’ll listen to you all and go look for a match.”

Xu Xiaoyun was trying to reassure them.

“You said this yourself, so don’t go back on your word later.”

“I know.”

Xu Xiaoyun’s tone was full of impatience.

She had already said some harsh words in front of Tang Momo, so this matter could only succeed but not fail. Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but clench her palms; this matter could only succeed.

Originally, she planned to find Zhao Xiuli if she didn’t receive a reply from Gu Chengze. After all, Zhao Xiuli was definitely the one most concerned about Gu Chengze’s life.

It was also at this time that Xu Xiaoyun suddenly thought that with Gu Chengze’s filial piety, if Zhao Xiuli asked him to marry her, he would not refuse, so why not try to win Zhao Xiuli’s favor first?

In her previous life, she paid little attention to the Gu family. It was only after she got married that she learned that Zhao Xiuli had the habit of going up to the mountain in the morning.

Especially during this season, some fruits on the mountain were ripe. Thinking of this, she got up early the next day and prepared to go up to the mountain.

At the foot of the mountain, she met Zhao Xiuli carrying a basket on her back. Seeing her, Zhao Xiuli was obviously surprised. “Girl of the Xu family, you’re also going up the mountain?”

Xu Xiaoyun casually made up an excuse and successfully went with her up the mountain.

There was still a lot of morning dew in the mountains in the morning, so the path was quite slippery. Xu Xiaoyun kept paying attention to Zhao Xiuli next to her. She thought that if Zhao Xiuli got hurt and she saved her, then took care of her, wouldn’t that be the best way to show gratitude?

That’s why Zhao Xiuli didn’t take the initiative to remind her when she stepped on the moss on the stone slab.

Xu Xiaoyun followed the Gu family to the hospital. Then she started blaming herself, “It’s all my fault. If I had been a bit quicker, I could have caught Grandma Zhao.”

The Gu family are not unreasonable people. The old lady hasn’t woken up yet, and they don’t know the whole story, so they just softly comfort Xu Xiaoyun. After all, what mattered most now was the old lady’s health.

“Should we tell Chengze about this?” Gu Dahai hesitated.

“Not yet. Let’s wait until Mother wakes up,” Zhou Hairong knew that her mother-in-law would never allow them to tell that kid; she didn’t want him to worry. It was better this way, to avoid him resenting them for not taking care of his grandmother.

Zhao Xiuli only had a broken right leg and a bump on her head; thankfully, there were no other injuries. This can be considered a blessing among misfortunes.

When Tang Momo and Zhang Xiaoli came to visit, Zhao Xiuli had just regained consciousness.

But upon seeing Tang Momo and her mother, Xu Xiaoyun immediately became alert. What were they here for? Did she regret rejecting Gu Chengze?
