Chapter 89: A World Where Only He Ze Gets Hurt
Lin Mu sprang up from the bed and said worriedly, “He Ze is in trouble.”
Shen Rangchen, who had been sitting on the small bed by the door, had already stepped out.
The three of them rushed downstairs, but only Fu Jingmo remained unhurried, his expression calm.
Lin Mu glanced sideways at him, raising his eyebrows. Realizing something, he also slowed his pace.
When Shen Rangchen reached the kitchen doorway, he was stunned by the sight before him—someone stuck in the window. That small wooden window had already been broken earlier when they were eating, but none of them had paid it much attention.
Now, He Ze’s muscular body was tightly entangled by a creeping vine extending from outside. His hands gripped both sides of the wooden window frame with such force that the veins on his forehead bulged, and his face was flushed bright red.
Upon seeing Shen Rangchen, He Ze struggled to squeeze out a few stammering words from his mouth.
“Help… help… Xiao Chencheng…”
He Ze’s fingers slowly began slipping from the window frame, and his face showed an expression of utter hopelessness…
The sight was truly hilarious—such a big man wedged into a tiny window, completely filling it. Shen Rangchen couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
! ! ! He Ze stared at his smiling face, thinking, Wow, Xiao Chencheng can actually laugh.
In that moment of distraction, he lost his grip, and with a sudden tumble, he flipped headfirst out of the window.
…
…
“Damn it, what the hell is this thing?!” His terrified voice echoed from outside.
…
Lin Mu and Fu Jingmo arrived as well, and the three of them walked over to the window together.
Fu Jingmo had already seen the scene behind the house, and even he was briefly taken aback when he looked down from the second floor.
Behind the house lay layer upon layer of white bones, stripped of any flesh, glinting with an eerie pale glow under the moonlight.
! ! !
He Ze sat in the middle of the bone pile, completely bewildered. Lin Mu reached out to pull him up. “Hurry up and get in! What the hell is this?”
The creeping vine, having gone through so much effort to pull out a “fertilizer,” had no intention of letting He Ze leave so easily. The long tendrils swiftly extended, coiling around He Ze’s waist, and even tried to loop around Lin Mu through his arm.
Shen Rangchen’s fingers twisted, and a small talisman appeared in his palm.
“Command!”
With a low shout, the talisman burst into flames and shot toward the vine.
This was a flame conjured by a Taoist spell, enhanced with energy. As soon as it touched the vine, it ignited instantly.
Wood naturally fears fire and avoids it.
The vine swiftly released He Ze from its grip and retreated rapidly, not even bothering with the burning branches still clinging to it.
“Lin Mu, the vine!” Fu Jingmo said in a low voice, his eyes fixed on the creeping vine.
As if something clicked in his mind, Lin Mu’s intuition kicked in. With a flick of his hand, Xiao Yuan shot forward, charging toward the vine.
The vine, which had already retreated quickly after encountering fire, now trembled all over when confronted with Xiao Yuan. Its leaves rustled, producing a frantic sound as it tried to flee even faster.
Xiao Yuan acted like a little tyrant, immediately entangling itself with the creeping vine. Meanwhile, Shen Rangchen controlled the fire, extinguishing it.
The creeping vine, which had absorbed the flesh and blood of countless people, was lush and expansive—several times the size of Xiao Yuan. But now, it was like a mouse encountering a cat. A small section of its vine was tightly wrapped by Xiao Yuan’s slender tendrils, and it dared not move an inch.
“What… is going on here?”
Lin Mu stared at the scene in the distance, completely baffled.
“I don’t know, just a hunch. Maybe all mutated plants are afraid of Xiao Yuan? And… could these plants, like Xiao Yuan, be used by you?”
The idea sounded absurd—after all, Xiao Yuan was just a small, unremarkable tree with no known name.
But then again…
It wasn’t ordinary. Xiao Yuan had consciousness, immense destructive power, and even its own spatial abilities.
Still, could it really be possible that all the plants in this world would fear it?
But clearly, the scene before them confirmed it—at least this mutated vine, which had consumed many people, was indeed afraid of Xiao Yuan.
With a firm twist of its tendrils, Xiao Yuan uprooted the vine entirely. The uprooted vine trembled before rapidly shrinking, transforming in an instant into a seed the size of a broad bean.
So… what now?
Lin Mu looked at Fu Jingmo, who merely shrugged. “Keep it and study it properly.”
Lin Mu nodded and tossed the seed into his spatial storage. The thought of all the people it had consumed as fertilizer sent a chill through his palm.
“But this vine is quite clever. It stayed hidden quietly the whole time. When all of us were around, it didn’t dare to make a move. It only attacked when He Ze was left alone.”
“I’d guess the previous victims were also dragged off one by one.”
The bones outside the window—each skull had a hole in it, eerily similar to how Xiao Yuan kills zombies. It pierced through their heads to kill them first, then slowly drained their flesh and blood.
“Damn it! Are you guys still talking about the vine? Get me up already!”
“And by the way, I’m not going to forgive you guys. You actually used me as bait.”
Lin Mu chuckled and spread his hands. “It’s not my fault. I had no idea.”
Shen Rangchen shook his head and turned to leave.
Fu Jingmo gave He Ze a cool glance, his eyes clearly saying:
I did it on purpose. What are you going to do about it?
The three of them left one after another, leaving He Ze fuming and stomping his feet.
“Hey! Are you seriously not going to pull me up?! Ahhhh! There are so many bones here!!”
“Why am I always the one who gets hurt?!”
Lin Mu pointed toward the door. “Come around to the front.”
…
Sigh, idiot.
