Chapter 11: Call Me Your Queen

Before Han Chen could explode again, Fang Hui hung up the phone and walked over, coughing lightly before smiling and saying, “Sister Ding will be down soon.”

Han Chen glared at him and muttered, “Damn!” before striding towards the door. Just as his hand touched the doorknob, the door swung open from the outside. Standing there was a woman with a neat appearance, her hair tied up, wearing black-rimmed glasses. She stood at the entrance with her arms crossed, her sharp gaze cutting through Han Chen.

“So, your wings have grown, huh? You even dared to blow off my appointment.”

Han Chen scratched his head, frustrated. “It’s just one appearance, what’s the big deal!”

“One appearance? Do you know how many strings I had to pull for this? I practically ran my legs off, the Adidas shoes I just bought are worn out. Are you going to compensate me?”

Han Chen, looking pained, cut her off. “I’ll pay, I’ll pay! I was wrong, alright? You’re my queen!”

Sister Ding snorted, feeling satisfied. She turned towards the others with a smile. “Sorry about that, I forgot to tie him up. Hope he didn’t cause you any trouble?”

Shen Yue couldn’t help but laugh, waving her hand. “No, no!”

Sister Ding nodded towards Director Zheng, then gave Han Chen a sharp look before walking off in her seven-inch heels. Han Chen, grumbling, followed behind her.

They hadn’t gone far when Shen Yue’s curious voice rang out from behind, “By the way, Jian Han, how did you make your face turn red earlier? Were you really embarrassed?”

Jian Han’s calm voice replied, “No, I just held my breath. I’ve tested it—if I hold my breath for more than forty seconds, my face turns red naturally.”

Sister Ding paused and glanced back in surprise. “Is she the lead actress? Not bad, she has potential.”

Han Chen snorted, eyeing Sister Ding. “Her? The lead? If it wasn’t for me, she wouldn’t even have gotten the second female lead!”

If it weren’t for his untimely appearance, Jian Han wouldn’t have had a third audition!

Now he was in an even worse mood.

Director Zheng Qingqiu, adjusting the camera, paused and looked back in surprise. She must have practiced holding her breath quite a bit to know the exact timing. Looks like she’s put in a lot of effort—the first two auditions were probably just nerves.

Years later, in an interview, Director Zheng Qingqiu would speak highly of Jian Han, now an international star. “Even during her first audition, she was full of surprises. Have you ever seen an actress practice holding her breath just to make her face blush for a scene? She even calculated the time needed down to the second.”

Of course, Director Zheng tactfully left out the fact that Jian Han had failed twice before finally succeeding.

Jian Han successfully landed the role of Xiang Weiwei, and Fang Hui was in a great mood. He grabbed Jian Han’s script. “I’ll give you a ride home.”

Jian Han agreed and waved to Director Zheng. “Director Zheng, you’re busy, I’ll head off now.”

She nodded to cameraman Wang Teng and screenwriter Shen Yue before following Fang Hui.

Fang Hui watched her closely, clearly very pleased. This girl used to be so aloof, giving off a cold, untouchable vibe. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break through. But now, she finally understood the importance of building relationships.

As they walked towards the elevator, they passed a group of four or five people. In the middle was a tall, skinny boy in a baseball cap and denim jacket, standing out among the rest.

Fang Hui quickly pulled Jian Han aside to give them room—this was the reality of the entertainment industry. The bigger the star, the more right they had to walk wherever they wanted.

As they got closer, Jian Han couldn’t help but be drawn to the boy in the middle. His skin was so pale it was almost translucent, and his long eyelashes cast a shadow under his eyes.

Sensing her gaze, he looked up slightly, his eyes as clear and cold as the snow on a distant mountaintop.

Jian Han blinked, and they passed each other.

Noticing the boy’s glance at Jian Han, his manager whispered, “That was trainee No. 18. He scored three five-star ratings in the last evaluation and has been rising in the rankings.”

Before he could finish, his phone beeped twice. Glancing at it, he exclaimed, “Wow, No. 18 just scored 500 points and broke into the top ten!”

The boy glanced coolly at his manager, who quickly fell silent and pocketed his phone.

Watching the group leave, Fang Hui turned to look at Jian Han, who had just secured the second female lead role, and couldn’t help but grumble, “That was Su Che, the top-ranked trainee. When are you going to make Su Che give way for us?”

Jian Han raised an eyebrow and replied nonchalantly, “Next time, just sit in a wheelchair, and he’ll make way for you.”

Fang Hui was speechless. Damn, now he understood how Han Chen felt!

They stared at each other for a moment before Fang Hui clutched his chest and walked into the elevator with a huff. By the time they reached the parking lot, he had already forgotten his annoyance and started chatting. “How did the audition feel today?”

Jian Han, buckling her seatbelt, asked instead, “Who was that woman who showed up at the end?”

Fang Hui blinked. “You mean Sister Ding? She’s Han Chen’s manager and one of the top three managers at the company. Don’t be fooled by how much she complains—she has tons of resources at her fingertips. Getting an appearance for someone is just one phone call for her.”

Realizing something was off, Fang Hui raised an eyebrow and smiled teasingly at Jian Han. “What? Thinking of changing managers?”

Jian Han shook her head, her eyes clear. “No, I just thought she was really cool.”

Fang Hui burst out laughing. Cool?

After dropping Jian Han off at her apartment, he didn’t drive off immediately. Instead, he pulled out his phone and sent a message to a group of industry friends on WeChat: “Our girl said you were cool. @CallMeYourQueen.”

Soon, replies started pouring in from friends who had been lurking online:

“My girl is the coolest: Your girl needs an eye exam!”

“Proud owner of a snooty Persian: I’ll just say one thing—ha!”

“Superdad: I’ll add one more—haha!”

Finally, the Queen herself responded: “Everyone above is going to the black room. Your girl has great taste, I’ll take her under my wing from now on! @FeedandRaiseMyKids.”
