Chapter 62: The Forsaken Ones (2/2)
“Damn it!” Shen Cheng realized the situation, cursed inwardly, and immediately stood up. He quickly threw his coat over his shoulders, opened the window, and leapt out. Landing smoothly, he dashed toward the backyard, surrounded by a palpable murderous aura.
The backyard of the Lin Family Hot Spring Inn was originally just an open field. The grass and trees were planted by Old Man Lin during the slow business season when he had nothing else to do. The area was not very large.
As Shen Cheng arrived, he immediately spotted a black man leaning against a tree, tossing a dagger that gleamed coldly.
“You must be Shen Cheng, right? As expected from a double demi-human aptitude user. I thought we wouldn’t meet until late at night,” the man said. Despite noticing Shen Cheng’s arrival, he didn’t stop tossing the dagger and instead grinned, revealing a set of starkly white teeth in contrast to his dark skin, making him appear somewhat menacing.
He knows that I’m a double demi-human aptitude user?
I had just injected the Dog Demi-Human Genetic Agent not long ago. Even if foreign demi-human organizations had the ability to gather information, they shouldn’t have found out this quickly.
Besides, I’ve only participated in one mission confronting foreign demi-human organizations. I haven’t made many moves, so it doesn’t make sense for them to focus on me.
Could it be…there’s a traitor in the Bio-Scientific Institute?
Hearing the man’s accented speech, Shen Cheng frowned and asked, “Are you from Dawn Research Institute?”
“No, I’m not from there. I’m from ‘The Forsaken Ones’!” The black man’s face revealed an intense, fanatical expression as he mentioned “The Forsaken Ones.” Shen Cheng quickly searched his memory but couldn’t recall any foreign demi-human organization by that name.
“What is your purpose here?”
“Of course, I’m here for you.” Sensing the danger in Shen Cheng’s gaze, the man waved his hand in understanding, “Don’t worry. We won’t harm your family.”
“I hope so.” While saying this, Shen Cheng subtly adjusted his posture, preparing to enter battle at any moment. “You said you’re here for me?”
“There’s no need to be so guarded. Let me introduce myself. I’m Branno, and I’ve come to invite you, the world’s only double demi-human aptitude user, to join ‘The Forsaken Ones’.” Branno stared directly at Shen Cheng. “Rest assured, the Demi-Human Genetic Agents we can offer are far superior to what the Bio-Scientific Institute has.”
“What if I refuse?” Shen Cheng responded without hesitation.
“Hmm… Is that your decision? I see. Well then…” Branno stopped tossing the dagger and stood upright, his eyes flashing red. “Shen Cheng, prepare— to die!”
As his words fell, Branno’s figure blurred, and the dagger in his hand traced a long, white arc through the night, moving so fast that Shen Cheng’s heart skipped a beat.
As expected from an aptitude user!
With a quick step, Shen Cheng narrowly avoided Branno’s dagger. The blade sliced through the air beside his ear, tearing a gash in the collar of his clothes.
Steadying himself, Shen Cheng calmed his nerves and, feigning nonchalance, said, “So, Branno, care to explain what kind of organization ‘The Forsaken Ones’ is?”
“Earlier, I could’ve told you, but now… Sorry, Shen Cheng, you’ll have to figure it out yourself.” Branno replied with a smirk, launching a roundhouse kick toward Shen Cheng with a gust of wind.
Shen Cheng seized the moment, grabbing Branno’s right leg and yanking it toward himself. At the same time, he raised his elbow and struck Branno’s chest with full force!
“Bang!”
“Ugh—” Taking the elbow blow to his chest, Branno staggered back several steps. He felt a surge of blood in his throat but forced it down.
Barely standing, Branno’s expression shifted from a grin to one of seriousness. “It seems I underestimated you. You’re not just a low-level double demi-human aptitude user after all.”
