Chapter 147: Ye Xi’s Past (1/2)
“Shush shush…”
The setting sun had disappeared, and the night slowly veiled the dim sky. Silver moonlight scattered across the ground, reflecting off the cold dew on the forest branches like tiny silver stars.
Compared to the daytime, the cold wind at this moment felt even more piercing, and its howling sound could faintly cause the ears of passersby to ache.
Pushing aside the grass, Shen Cheng, half-covered in bloodstains, finally arrived at the vine-covered stone wall. His eyes flickered, and his face was as gloomy as ever. The nausea that occasionally surged from within made his legs feel slightly weak.
Looking at the stone wall in front of him, Shen Cheng took two deep breaths of the fishy-sweet air. He casually wiped the blood off his short knife and handgun on his clothes and tucked them away. Then, he forced himself to concentrate and began carefully examining the stone wall.
Even up close, it was nothing more than an ordinary stone wall, with no sign of any cave entrance.
Could there be another mechanism?
Looking up at the pitch-black night sky, Shen Cheng had lost the patience to search for other mechanisms or entrances. He pressed his right palm against the stone wall, then raised his hand, clenched it into a fist, and struck the wall hard!
“Boom!!”
The massive roar was incredibly ear-piercing in the otherwise silent forest at night. Birds scattered in fright, and the stone wall in front of him began to crack from the point of impact, spreading out like a web of fractures. With another loud bang, the wall shattered, revealing a narrow, pitch-black passage that seemed to stretch endlessly.
Slightly calming the anger in his heart, Shen Cheng closed his eyes. A moment later, he opened them again, now filled with a strange, demonic glow.
Night Vision!
After clearly seeing the barren interior of the cave, Shen Cheng, with weary steps, slowly entered the cave.
He had barely taken a few steps when a vague spiritual force invaded Shen Cheng’s mind, seemingly trying to drag him into some kind of illusion. Just as Shen Cheng was about to use his spiritual force to cut it off, he hesitated for a moment and decided against it, allowing the force to pull him into an unknown illusionary realm.
First, there was a familiar darkness, followed by the gradual emergence of gray. Then, colors began to spread out, and a strange scene appeared before Shen Cheng’s eyes.
The vision was narrow. In this view, Shen Cheng could see the trunk and branches of a tree beside him, and vaguely in front of him, something like a bird’s beak. Based on this, Shen Cheng deduced that the owner of this body was probably standing on a tree branch.
Suddenly, his gaze involuntarily lowered. He saw that the body’s owner focused on its dark purple wings and gently pecked at them with its beak.
Upon seeing the dark purple feathers, Shen Cheng’s heart trembled.
Could this be… Ye Xi’s memory before transforming into a Demi-Human?
“Hey! Look over here, you stupid bird!” Suddenly, Shen Cheng heard a youthful voice with a bit of roughness, sounding like a boy, speaking in standard English with a Luoguo accent.
The body’s owner… no, Ye Xi instinctively raised his head in the direction of the voice. The next moment, a stone suddenly shot toward her face. Ye Xi didn’t even have time to react before her vision blurred.
As an observer, Shen Cheng naturally couldn’t feel Ye Xi’s pain, but the force and size of that stone would have been enough to knock Ye Xi off the branch in her current state, especially since it hit her directly on the head.
Ye Xi reacted quickly, immediately spreading her wings and flying haphazardly into the woods behind her. As Ye Xi flew chaotically in her injured state, her vision spun uncontrollably, and Shen Cheng could faintly hear a few boys cheering behind them.
