Su Yi looked up and saw that the people who arrived were none other than Su Dahai and Wang Fang, the very people Zhang Guilan was just berating.
Su Yi quickly stood up to greet them.
“Big brother, big sister-in-law, you finally came! Our mother was so impatient waiting, she’s been scolding for a while now!”
Zhang Guilan, knowing she was in the wrong, could only laugh awkwardly and explain.
“Don’t listen to her nonsense, I wasn’t scolding you.”
Wang Fang sneered, “Dahai and I heard you were sick and hospitalized, we didn’t even go home and rushed over directly. It’s our bad luck!”
Su Dahai also looked grim, “Mother, what exactly happened? Just now, Xiao Yi said on the phone that you fainted from anger. But you look full of energy, how could you be hospitalized?”
Su Yi heard this, and before Zhang Guilan could speak, she pulled on Su Dahai’s arm.
“Big brother, how can you say that our mother is faking it? She really did faint just now, I saw it with my own eyes.”
“Our mother has a hard life. She finally saved up so much money and coupons, and they were all stolen. She couldn’t take it and fainted.”
Su Yi then recounted the events of the morning.
“Our father and the other three are still at home waiting for the police to come and investigate.”
“You know, our mother doesn’t like me, she even drove me away just now. Luckily you came, I’ll go outside the hospital and wait.”
After that, she slipped away, ignoring Su Dahai and Wang Fang’s attempts to “retain” her.
Zhang Guilan was still upset about losing her belongings, and when Su Yi lightly recounted the details of the theft again, she cried loudly again.
Su Dahai and Wang Fang couldn’t even call Su Yi back, they could only stay and look after her.
On the other side, Su Yi escaped from the hospital and found an alley to change into her army coat and wrap a scarf around her.
Then she took out Su Erqiang’s bicycle, carrying two large bags of headwear from her space, and headed towards the New Year’s goods street.
She had already decided that there weren’t many bananas left in her space.
She would keep them and eat them slowly, not sell them anymore.
This time, the mission was to sell the two large bags of headwear.
Perhaps the bananas and melon seeds from yesterday were too memorable, because as soon as Su Yi arrived at her usual spot on the New Year’s goods street, people surrounded her.
“Girl, why didn’t you bring bananas today?”
“Yeah, we’ve been waiting for you for hours, why are you just coming now?”
Su Yi grinned, “The bananas and melon seeds are all sold out. Today, do you want headbands? They are so pretty! Take one home for your wife or daughter, perfect for the festive New Year.”
As she spoke, Su Yi quickly laid out the headbands and hair clips.
The crowd, initially disappointed, were about to leave.
But seeing the items on display, they realized they were truly beautiful.
“I haven’t seen anyone wearing these before.”
“That’s right, these are the latest styles just arrived from the south. I only have this much in stock, and I’m only selling them for half a day today. If you’re late, you’ll miss out.”
Many of the people visiting the market were families with several members.
Girls loved these things the most, and seeing them, they couldn’t move.
They begged their parents to buy them one.
Plus, these things weren’t expensive, and they quickly became popular.
Girls who bought hair clips, headbands, and head ties immediately put them on.
Then, they happily strolled around the street, unknowingly attracting more business for Su Yi.
Su Yi, who was initially worried about not having enough time, was now relieved.
It only took an hour or two to sell all two large bags of headwear.
After selling her goods, Su Yi found a nearby small restaurant and ordered a bowl of mutton soup noodles.
She ate a warm bowl to fill her stomach, then rode her bicycle back to the hospital.
When she arrived at the ward, Zhang Guilan was still on the bed, grumbling and scolding the thief.
Her voice was hoarse from talking.
Su Dahai sat by the bed, listening with his head down, not saying a word.
Wang Fang also kept a cold face and didn’t speak, sitting on the bed by the door, not even giving her mother-in-law a glance.
As soon as Su Yi entered, Zhang Guilan pointed her nose and asked, “Where did you go? Your old mother is in the hospital, and you still have the heart to go out and play?”
Su Yi blinked her eyes in grievance, “No, I was just sitting outside in the sun, I was afraid of upsetting you, so I didn’t dare come in.”
Wang Fang was angry in her heart, and deliberately spoke up for Su Yi, “Mom, you chased her out, and now you’re going to scold her for not coming, we, the younger generation, don’t know who can satisfy you.”
Zhang Guilan was furious when she heard this, and pointed at Su Dahai, “You listen, you listen, what is your wife saying?”
Su Dahai pursed his lips, “Mother, since you’re not feeling well, don’t talk so much, it’s not good for you to get agitated, just lie down and rest.”
Then, he turned to Su Yi, “We didn’t see you when we were eating, have you eaten?”
Su Yi explained, “I had a stomachache and went to the bathroom, I’m fine, I’m not hungry.”
Zhang Guilan snorted, “I see you’re not hungry, you haven’t done anything, why would you eat?”
Wang Fang disliked her mother-in-law, so she deliberately wanted to contradict her.
Wang Fang directly pulled out a dollar bill from her pocket, “Little sister, take this and buy something to eat to fill your stomach. If you hadn’t brought her to the hospital alone today, who knows what might have happened.”
Su Dahai also made a rare fair statement, “My father and the second brother are too unreasonable, how could they let Little Yi bring you to the hospital alone, what if something happened, how could she handle it alone?”
Zhang Guilan was already angry at Su Yi and Wang Fang contradicting her.
Now, she couldn’t believe her eldest son was also defying her.
Then, she thought back to the attitudes of her three sons when she fainted that morning.
Suddenly, she was furious, “I’m not staying! I’m checking out! I’m going home!”
No matter how much Su Dahai tried to persuade her, she insisted on two words – “Going Home!”
Su Dahai couldn’t resist her, and she didn’t seem to be in any real trouble.
So, he had to arrange for her discharge.
Fortunately, they had come in two bicycles, so now they could each ride one and head home.
When the four of them arrived home, it was still early.
There were still quite a few people gathered outside the courtyard, watching the commotion.
The police who had been called in the morning had already left.
Zhang Guilan had been complaining of chest pains on the way, but she didn’t care anymore. She jumped out of the car and quickly went into the courtyard.
“Old man, what did the police say? Did they catch the person?”
Su Xingfa glanced at her, not even asking about the hospital.
“Catch who? There’s no trace inside or outside the house, where would they catch anyone?”
Zhang Guilan sat down on the ground upon hearing this, “How could this be?”
Su Xingfa snorted, “But they said it must be someone in the vicinity, someone familiar with us. Think carefully, did anyone see us when we left this morning?”
