Chapter 203: Watching the Show
Lin Xiangnan returned to her workstation, and Sun Yi gave her a wink. “I told you the factory union would be looking for you. New task?”
“Yeah. I’ll be busy again for a while.”
Lin Xiangnan wasn’t afraid of working, but she was afraid of pressure.
She didn’t like being pressured to deliver results within a specific timeframe. It made her unhappy.
The current situation was ideal. She could do her regular work, and if she encountered something she didn’t understand, she could take her time to figure it out without affecting her life.
When she first arrived at the 130th factory, Lin Xiangnan felt like she had a dog chasing her. She got the work done, but she had no personal space.
Now, Lin Xiangnan had adjusted.
She would learn what she needed to, but she didn’t have to rush.
She could leisurely brew herself a cup of tea, prepare some snacks, and then slowly delve into her book. If something else came up, she could take care of it first.
“Is the 130th factory’s feng shui good for you? You’ve become so much more proactive,” Hu Meili exclaimed in amazement.
She stretched her neck to look at the book on the desk. She couldn’t understand it, but it was definitely a math book.
“Did your leader give you the task?” Hu Meili inquired.
“No. It’s just that I’ve encountered more problems recently, and I have to learn.”
No matter how smart you are, you still need knowledge. So even on weekends, Lin Xiangnan brought a book home to read.
Hu Meili’s son, Da Bao, who was in her arms, looked curious and reached out to grab the book. “Want!”
“What do you want?” Hu Meili lightly patted Da Bao’s hand, holding him away. “Mommy is working. You can’t disturb her. Grandma will take you out to play.”
But Lin Xiangnan didn’t have that kind of self-control. The child’s gesture made her close the book and follow Hu Meili.
“I’ll go out with you.”
Seeing this, Hu Meili held back her words to coax the child and directly handed Da Bao to Lin Xiangnan.
“Take him. You can handle him. I’m going to buy groceries.”
“I want bone broth today.”
“Okay.”
Lin Xiangnan took the child out for a walk and, seeing that it was almost time, prepared to go home to make soup.
However, she waited at home for over half an hour before Hu Meili rushed back, “I got caught watching the show for too long and almost forgot the time.”
“I knew you weren’t doing anything serious.”
Lin Xiangnan took the basket of groceries and checked what Hu Meili had bought, thinking about what to cook.
Seeing Lin Xiangnan head straight to the kitchen, Hu Meili mysteriously said, “You didn’t even ask what show I was watching.”
“What else could it be? Wang Hu’s situation, right? His family has been the talk of the neighborhood lately.” Lin Xiangnan didn’t care and continued with her work.
Hu Meili couldn’t keep a secret. If Lin Xiangnan didn’t ask, she would tell her anyway.
“Just now, Wang Hu was taken away by his uncle. He jumped out of the car and got injured, which scared everyone.”
Normally, the Wang family would only receive news of Captain Wang ‘s death, and the child’s whereabouts would be decided by his mother.
But the Wang family’s situation was special, and Wang Hu wouldn’t listen to anyone, so the army could only call the Wang family to come to the army to handle family matters.
The divorce was a huge embarrassment for Captain Wang.
He didn’t even write to his family about it, so Wang’s older brother didn’t know that Captain Wang ‘s wife had changed. When he arrived at the army, he asked for Luo Caixia.
After being informed about Captain Wang’s love life over the past period, Wang’s older brother was furious.
“That vixen, Liu Feng. How dare she control Huzi. We Wang family don’t recognize her as our daughter-in-law.”
“My brother’s accident was all because of this woman. I knew she wasn’t a good person the moment I saw her.”
“The only daughter-in-law I recognize is Luo Caixia.”
Luo Caixia also felt embarrassed about the divorce, so she didn’t write back to her family to explain the situation.
As a result, everyone back home was in the dark.
But Luo Caixia didn’t want to get involved in the Wang family’s affairs. The army leadership called the factory and asked her to come, but Luo Caixia refused with an excuse.
Luo Caixia didn’t come, but Liu Feng, knowing the news, took the initiative to meet the Wang family.
Before entering the house, Liu Feng heard Wang’s older brother’s disdainful words. She was also angry, but she didn’t show it.
“It doesn’t matter if the Wang family doesn’t recognize me. I’m legally married to Old Wang, and the government recognizes it.”
“Humph! You’re that vixen?” Wang’s older brother looked at Liu Feng with disdain. “I don’t know what my brother saw in you. You don’t look like someone who works.”
The Wang family’s standard for choosing a wife was hard work. Wang’s older brother didn’t like Liu Feng’s type.
“You’re a widow who’s remarried. I don’t expect you to take care of my brother. You can marry whoever you want, but the child can’t go with you.”
If this were in the countryside, Liu Feng would definitely be the target of the Wang family’s anger.
The Wang family finally had a successful member, and now he was suddenly gone. The blow to the entire family was huge.
But there were other leaders present, so Wang’s older brother only grumbled a few complaints and acted very reasonable.
The child and the pension belonged to the Wang family. The martyr’s certificate, which allowed them to receive a monthly allowance, also belonged to the Wang family.
As for Liu Feng, she could do whatever she wanted, the Wang family wouldn’t care.
The biggest part of the pension was tied to the child. If she wanted the pension, she had to take the child.
Liu Feng argued, “I don’t have any biological children. Wang Hu is my son. I’ll rely on him to support me in my old age. I can’t give him to you.”
“You have many children in your family. If Wang Hu goes back with you, he won’t get good care. It’s better for him to stay with me.”
Liu Feng had a bad reputation because of her marriage. She even lost her job. This pension was the last thing she could grasp, so she wouldn’t give up.
“You’re a stepmother. You’re not a good person. Who would believe you?” Wang’s older brother retorted.
This was also what Xu Zhengwei and the others were worried about. Liu Feng was not a good person. They didn’t want her to take care of the child.
But Wang Hu wanted to stay with her.
Wang’s older brother said to Wang Hu seriously, “I swear in front of you. I will never touch your father’s pension. I will save it all for you to grow up and get married. Life in the countryside may not be as comfortable as in the city, but as long as your uncle has food to eat, I will never let you go hungry.”
Captain Wang used to send money home every month. Even the money for his nephew’s wedding was given by Captain Wang.
Whether Wang’s older brother’s heart would change in the future was unknown, but for now, he showed genuine love for Wang Hu.
“But I still want to stay with my mother.” Wang Hu pointed at Liu Feng.
Wang’s older brother threatened loudly, “That Liu Feng is a stepmother. If you stay with her, you’ll starve! She’ll beat you! She’ll sell you!”
“Not all stepmothers are bad.” Wang Hu retorted. “But you’re unlucky. Your stepmother is definitely
