Chapter 32: Click Clack Click Clack Click Clack
“Thank you so much, Mu Huiyue!”
Ro Yin sincerely expressed her gratitude to the girl in front of her, cradling the hardcover Yan Luo Shuye in her arms.
Mu Huiyue smiled back, replying, “You and the little book care about each other so much. Even without me, you two would eventually resolve your misunderstandings.”
“But what if by then I’ve already given up on the bookstore?”
Ro Yin shook her head, determination etched on her face. “While things are tough right now, I’m going to work hard with my pets to restore the bookstore to the glory it had when my grandmother was alive.”
Most of the staff at Yan Luo Shudi had already been dismissed, and bringing back the skill pages for the little book wasn’t going to be an easy task. Yet, Ro Yin brimmed with confidence about the future. She had studied animal husbandry for four years in college just for this moment—to take over and run the bookstore properly.
“When the bookstore is back on track, I’ll come visit again,” Mu Huiyue said with a smile.
Although her original plan to help the little book with skill teaching had been thwarted by its transformation into a blank Yan Luo Shuye, she still felt happiness in aiding the little book and Ro Yin in mending their relationship.
“By the way, about the skills you wanted to teach—‘Moon Burst’ and ‘Shadow Step’—after I contract with the little book, I might have a way to try them out.”
Ro Yin pondered for a moment before explaining to Mu Huiyue, “The teaching methods at Yan Luo Shudi differ from mainstream skill teaching in the market. We don’t have specific training details for specific pets.”
“We rely on our beast taming talents and the little book’s core skill to conduct our lessons, so we don’t limit our teaching to certain species or growth stages.”
Mu Huiyue, who had intended to leave, stopped in her tracks to hear more from Ro Yin.
“My grandmother’s beast taming talent, Skill Induction, allows us to project skills we’ve witnessed and fully understood onto our contracted pets, enabling them to use those skills.”
As Ro Yin spoke, a summoning array of triple beast patterns appeared in front of her, and a jade tablet-shaped ancient book-type pet materialized beside her.
Name: Yan Luo Shuye (Jade Tablet Form)
Attribute: Mind System
Race Level: Low-level Warrior
Growth Stage: Stage Six
Core Talent: Record Tablet (Mind System C-Level)
Normal Hidden Energy Value: 42,350 P
Race Introduction: A spirit being born from the A-Class secret realm, “Star Sea Library,” five different forms of this book spirit have been discovered, each with distinct core talent skills.
The jade tablet book also…
With tiny hands and legs that resembled delicate straps, the jade tablet sprinted toward the hardcover Yan Luo Shuye beside the beast tamer, immediately wrapping itself in a warm embrace with its counterpart.
“This is Xiao Yu, my initial contracted pet, so I guess that makes it a… disciple of the little book?” Ro Yin chuckled as she watched the two teary-eyed Yan Luo Shuye share a heartfelt reunion. It had been a long time since Xiao Yu had seen the little book, which had been in a cloaked state for quite a while.
“Xiao Yu’s Record Tablet can capture skills in action while using them, creating a unique skill jade tablet.”
“Later, the little book’s Travel Diary will absorb and decompose this information, producing Skill Diary Pages that can recreate the skill’s usage scenarios. After using these pages, pets can visualize the principles, release mechanisms, techniques, and other insights about the skills in their minds. There’s a high chance they’ll learn the skills documented on the pages.”
“Pets that have used the pages describe it as suddenly absorbing a book of experience. As long as they have the potential to learn the skill, they can grasp it quickly through the skill pages.”
Mu Huiyue paused, slightly taken aback. This skill page… it sounded quite similar to the skill scroll she had drawn!
As Ro Yin spoke, she brought her hands together over the jade tablet Yan Luo Shuye’s head, activating her beast taming talent.
“Shadow Step happens to be one of the skills I’ve seen and thoroughly understood. Now, I can recreate the skill page for Shadow Step for the little book.”
Tiny sparkles of light appeared in her hands, cascading like starlight, completely absorbed by the jade tablet Yan Luo Shuye.
Xiao Yu’s body rolled into a tight coil, leaving only its two strap-like legs visible. In a blink, it vanished and reappeared beneath a shadowy table.
Mu Huiyue stood in stunned silence; the theoretical knowledge she had heard could not compare to witnessing it in action. She had actually seen a mind-type pet execute the shadow-based Shadow Step!
Though she knew that beast tamers possessed a variety of remarkable talents, Ro Yin’s Skill Induction still astonished her.
If applied in battle, Skill Induction could undoubtedly provide unforeseen advantages.
However, the consumption of beast taming talents in a single fight typically limited usage to once. Ro Yin’s talent combined with the skills of the two Yan Luo Shuye had created value far beyond that of combat alone.
After executing Shadow Step, a shimmering piece of jade tablet materialized above Xiao Yu’s head. It darted back to Ro Yin, presenting the jade tablet to the hardcover Yan Luo Shuye.
The little book was no stranger to this process, extending its bookmark-like hand to carefully slip the jade tablet into its pages.
Then, it activated its core talent skill, Travel Diary.
In no time, the little book opened its pages, revealing dark, misty icons on the once-blank page. Imprinted on it was an icon of a boot with acceleration patterns, representing the movement skill, Shadow Step.
The little book tore out the page embossed with Shadow Step and telekinetically floated it into Mu Huiyue’s hand.
Mu Huiyue glanced at her two pets and asked, “Who wants to try it first?”
“Woof woof!” Baiya wagged its tail, eager to test the new skill.
“Clack clack…” Ellen popped out half of its skull from the shadows and quietly shook its head.
Shadow Step wasn’t a teleportation skill; instead, it greatly increased movement speed within shadows. Ellen preferred using Shadow Cloak to move, so it would let the little dog give Shadow Step a shot first.
Mu Huiyue nodded and handed the page to Baiya.
The little cloud dog sniffed the page curiously, then bit down and gulped it down in a few quick bites.
Mu Huiyue: “…”
As long as the page was absorbed, how it was consumed shouldn’t matter, right?
White stardust-like particles appeared around Baiya’s body, reminiscent of the Skill Induction effect. Shaking its head, Baiya suddenly lowered its body and, in a flash, vanished from sight.
Mu Huiyue’s gaze followed the white shadow as it darted across the room’s darkness, even leaping up the shadows on the wall to the ceiling, before coming to a steady stop in less than two seconds.
C-class dark movement skill Shadow Step—successful teaching!
“Woof woof!” Baiya excitedly scratched at the ground.
With this skill, it could rush toward enemies faster and launch surprise attacks!
Mu Huiyue’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
“The little cloud dog’s adaptability is already quite remarkable, which is why the success rate for teaching C-class skills is high.”
Ro Yin nodded, looking at Mu Huiyue as she continued, “As for the Moon Burst skill… does your pet know Shadow Ball?”
“Woof woof!” Baiya wagged its tail at the mention of the familiar skill name.
“It’s a B-class dark skill, Moon Burst, which is an advanced skill of the C-class dark skill, Shadow Ball.”
“Currently, I can’t directly teach B-class skills, but I can have Xiao Yu collaborate with the little book to create a skill page that retains the induction effect. After all, Moon Burst is a skill I once saw my grandmother teach.”
Ro Yin said, once again releasing her beast-taming talent towards Xiao Yu. “Even if I can’t get your little cloud dog to learn Moon Burst right away, later on…”
“Evolving and advancing through different stages will greatly increase the chances of transforming Shadow Ball into Moon Burst.”
With both books working in unison, they quickly completed the second skill page. The little book tore off a fresh page from its diary and telekinetically floated it in front of Baiya.
The little cloud dog, already experienced, gulped down the page eagerly.
Once again, the familiar stardust-like glow enveloped Baiya as the Skill Induction talent took effect. However, this time, the little dog was unable to use the new skill.
“Woof woof~” Baiya lowered its body and stretched out comfortably.
Even though it hadn’t learned the new skill, it felt a deepening understanding of the Shadow Ball within. With diligent practice, it was sure it could master Moon Burst, an even more powerful ability.
Mu Huiyue affectionately ruffled Baiya’s thick neck fur, her thoughts swirling from Ro Yin’s earlier process of crafting skill pages with the two books.
She turned to the young bookshop owner. “So, as long as you’ve seen and can comprehend a skill, you can have Xiao Yu and the little book create skill pages, right, Boss Ro Yin?”
“That’s true,” Ro Yin nodded. “But fully understanding a skill isn’t as simple as it sounds. My grandmother, a master-level beast tamer, only left behind a little over a hundred skill pages in her lifetime. The highest level was B-class; even she couldn’t completely grasp skills above A-class.”
“Then… can we let the little book try this?” Mu Huiyue pulled out the temporarily unused C-Class Skill Scroll: Earthquake Wave from the beast space and handed it to Ro Yin.
The skill jade slips made by Xiao Yu looked very similar to the skill scrolls she drew from the pool. If the little book could use Travel Diary to craft a skill page, maybe it could also work with the skill scroll that Mu Huiyue brought.
“What is this…?” Ro Yin could not see the description of the item; all she held was a beautifully crafted, mud-colored scroll.
“It’s a C-class earth-type skill, Earthquake Wave. I think it’s quite similar to the jade slips made by Xiao Yu, so I wanted to see if the little book could try,” Mu Huiyue explained.
The skill scrolls drawn from the pool couldn’t be used on extraordinary creatures with which she didn’t have a contract, much like the limitations of Ro Yin’s beast-taming talent. If the little book could convert this skill, then these resources she’d drawn but couldn’t use might finally have a new purpose.
Ro Yin nodded and handed the mud-colored scroll to the little book, which extended its slender hands to tuck the scroll neatly into its thick pages.
All eyes turned to the little book. Moments later, the elegantly bound smoke book opened its cover, revealing…
The little book opened its eyes, and with its slender bookmark hands, it tugged at the beast tamer’s sleeve before flipping open its pages.
Ro Yin’s eyes widened in surprise. The scroll seemed to have been completely absorbed, leaving no trace behind, but inside the little book, there were suddenly ten new pages of intricate patterns. Each page had a mud-colored background, with a cracked earth design in the center—precisely representing the skill icon for Earthquake Wave.
“Did it succeed?” Mu Huiyue leaned in to take a closer look.
“It actually… wrote out ten pages at once?” Ro Yin exclaimed, disbelief etched on her face.
Her own beast-taming talent, when combined with Xiao Yu’s jade slips, could only manage one page at a time. But this scroll that Mu Huiyue brought seemed almost like a higher-tier talent in its own right.
One skill scroll allowing the little book to produce ten skill pages meant it could facilitate ten skill teachings. This process could also deepen Ro Yin’s understanding of her beast-taming talent, far more useful than letting it gather dust in her beast space.
Mu Huiyue’s eyes lit up with excitement; she felt she had stumbled upon a new business opportunity.
“Ro Yin, didn’t you mention before that the bookshop is struggling right now?”
“That’s true…” Ro Yin instinctively replied, suddenly catching on to Mu Huiyue’s intent.
“Would you consider partnering with me to run the shop? I can provide initial operating funds as well as more of those skill scrolls like the one we just used.”
Mu Huiyue proposed with a smile, “Although the scrolls will only appear sporadically, I’m sure there will be many more to come.”
