Chapter 51
During the journey, Song Xu often talks to Wu Mu about the sea, but she doesn’t know its exact direction. She could only repeatedly describe the vast and beautiful sea to Wu Mu, successfully making him look forward to it.
At this moment, the shimmering ocean was not far away. Song Xu didn’t know whether to look at the big tiger or the sea first. She turned her head, grabbed Wu Mu’s arm, and pointed to the endless sea, saying, “Look, that’s the sea!”
Due to excitement, her voice was a bit loud, catching the giant tiger’s attention. As she turned back, Wu Mu forgot about the sea and immediately fled with Song Xu. This was the experience of being chased by the big tiger. If they didn’t run now, they would definitely be caught. They were like playing cat and mouse on this continent where primitive beasts lived, often one side running and the other chasing. The chaser couldn’t catch up, and the runner couldn’t escape far, maintaining a delicate stalemate. The giant tiger chased them several times and seemed to recognize them. Later, when driving them away, it became increasingly perfunctory, chasing them for only 500 meters before turning back, roaring a few times, with a voice full of annoyance, like dealing with troublesome children.
Wu Mu also faced a problem; he had to eat. Song Xu had thought before that they couldn’t let him starve to death. When there was no other way, they might really have to eat primitive beasts. But now that they have seen the sea, Song Xu feels a new idea has appeared.
“Why don’t we go catch some fish in the sea to eat?” Song Xu suggested.
They bypassed the reef area where the giant tiger often stayed and went to another beach. The big snake swam on the wet sand, drawing graceful arcs.
Facing the otherworldly sea, Song Xu felt infinite emotions. She put her hands on her hips, just about to say something, when she saw the snake beside her, possibly hungry, plunge its head into the water and take a big gulp.
Song Xu reached out but couldn’t stop it in time: “Hey, don’t drink…!”
With its head wet, the big snake spat out the water it had just drunk.
Song Xu: “Didn’t I tell you that seawater is salty, bitter, and has a fishy taste, not good to drink?”
Apparently, she hadn’t said that; she had only talked about how much delicious food there was in the sea.
“There’s no time to lose. Let’s go catch some fish to eat! Look at this child, so hungry that his eyes are lifeless.” Song Xu pushed Wu Mu into the water.
Their swimming skills had been honed long ago. Back in Wu Mu Forest, Song Xu almost went swimming every day in the summer. At first, she had to hold onto the snake’s shoulder, but later, she swam vigorously on her own. Because of her small size and furry body, she could float on the water in her beast form.
In the sea, Wu Mu was initially a bit unaccustomed to the water but quickly got used to the buoyancy. They didn’t go too far or too deep, just swimming near the shore. In the shallow water, they hardly saw any big fish. A small school of fish, seeing such a big snake as Wu Mu, immediately scattered and fled.
Wu Mu swayed his tail in the water, and Song Xu followed behind, seizing the opportunity to catch the fish that were stunned or accidentally hit. She emerged from the water with a fish in each hand.
Wu Mu still transformed into his beast form for hunting and eating, opening his mouth to swallow the two arm-length fish. Song Xu patted his snout, smearing it with fishy smell: “At least we can eat. Let’s catch more, so we can definitely eat our fill.”
After getting wet, the little squirrel looked pitifully small and thin. The big snake didn’t dare rest its heavy head on her; it just rubbed against her.
Song Xu: “Baby, I believe you didn’t rub the fishy smell on me as revenge.”
Swimming for a long time was exhausting, so Song Xu, seeing that the snake had grown into a mature snake that could catch and eat fish on its own, scratched her itchy spots and emerged from the water, heading back to the shore. Her paws were full of sand, so she shook off the water droplets from her body and then shook the sand off her legs. While she was cleaning herself, a giant tiger suddenly jumped out from behind a reef.
The tiger landed silently in front of her, and Song Xu only realized something was wrong when she was almost in front of it. She looked up, screamed in fright, and scrambled back towards the sea. The wind whistled behind her as the tiger pounced.
The tiger came with an attacking stance, its teeth ready to strike. Song Xu had barely run a few steps before a giant tiger paw pinned her down. Seeing the big mouth about to bite down, she broke out in a cold sweat.
Her life was about to end here today. If Wu Mu heard the commotion and came over, he wouldn’t be able to escape either. What a tragic scene this would be!
The hot breath from the tiger’s mouth brushed her face, and Song Xu noticed a puzzled expression on the tiger’s giant face. How did she see the confusion on the tiger’s face? Because the tiger tilted its head and conspicuously looked at her. Not only that, but it also sniffed her waist. Song Xu realized the tiger was sniffing the tiger tooth necklace tied around her waist. After all, it was her own thing, carrying her scent, which probably made the tiger feel familiar. The paw pressing on Song Xu relaxed, and seeing that the tiger no longer bared its teeth, Song Xu also relaxed, though she didn’t dare to move recklessly.
At this moment, she couldn’t help but think that Hei Sen’s neck had become so thick that it was no wonder the necklace couldn’t fit and fell off. Even as a bracelet, the paw was too thick and could break the necklace. The tiger indeed felt that this furry little creature in front of it carried a familiar scent. Originally intending to kill the annoying thing that had been watching from a distance, the tiger’s killing intent slowly subsided as it got closer and smelled the scent.
Living by instinct, the tiger twitched its ears and soon completely released its paw, biting Song Xu and preparing to take her away.
Song Xu was caught in the tiger’s mouth, just fitting between its teeth. The tiger held her firmly but without hurting her.
No wonder the tiger had been a mother before; it was quite skilled at picking up a cub. At this moment, the snake, hearing the squirrel’s scream, hurriedly emerged from the water and saw Hei Sen biting Song Xu and preparing to leave. Song Xu’s head poked out from the tiger’s mouth, looking excited and innocent at Wu Mu, while the tiger contemplated whether to put down what it was holding and fight or just leave.
In the end, the tiger decided to ignore the little snake and walked away gracefully.
Wu Mu:?
The snake quickly swam up from the sea, chasing after Hei Sen and Song Xu. Hearing the commotion, the tiger turned back and saw the snake approaching. Oh, you dare provoke me even though I ignored you?
The tiger couldn’t tolerate this and roared angrily. As it opened its mouth, Song Xu fell out. The tiger leaped over her head, pouncing towards Wu Mu with a fierce stance that made Song Xu nervous. Even if Wu Mu could bite the tiger and poison it, he couldn’t really do that. He could only run away as before. It was so urgent this time that he didn’t even have time to take Song Xu with him.
The mother and son ran into the forest by the sea in the blink of an eye.
Rubbing her head, Song Xu got up from the sand and watched their retreating figures in a daze. Not far away, a small dinosaur emerged from the forest, seemingly wanting to approach. Song Xu, on the verge of tears, shouted after the big tiger and the snake, “Don’t leave me here alone!”
The tiger was the first to return, biting Song Xu and taking her in another direction in the forest. Song Xu looked back, worried that the snake might have been killed, but she relaxed when she saw a snake’s tail sliding on a tree in the distance.
It seemed the snake had escaped again. No wonder it was so slippery. Did the snake get chased like this many times when it was young?
The giant tiger brought Song Xu to the reef by the sea, where it often stayed, placing her beside its paw. When it lay down, its head rested on Song Xu.
Song Xu: So that’s why the snake likes to rest its chin on people when it sleeps—it’s inherited!
Song Xu was instantly covered in fur. The thick fur on the tiger’s chin was like a heavy blanket, turning her into a small bug in a blanket. Struggling to breathe, Song Xu reached out and created a gap in the fur to breathe.
The giant tiger lazily lay there, ignoring her small movements. It squinted its eyes to enjoy the sun. Occasionally, it would lift its head to look at the small island in the sea, showing a brief look of contemplation and confusion, but soon, it would give up thinking and continue to sleep.
Wu Mu watched from a distance, his tail anxiously hitting the ground. He really didn’t know what to do in this situation, his body curling up in distress. From afar, a hand emerged from under the tiger’s chin, waving at him, followed by a head. Not scared or nervous, Song Xu petted the fur around the tiger’s mouth and exposed teeth. She seemed to find the fur very pleasant to touch and kept stroking it, a dreamy smile on her face.
Wu Mu:?
Feeling an itch around its mouth, the tiger casually moved its head, brushing Song Xu with its fur. Not only that, but the tiger, resting on her for a while, seemed to remember something. Finding another familiar scent on the furry creature, it suddenly licked her like it was grooming a cub.
Song Xu, not even enough for one lick, felt her fur smoothed out like it had been combed with a steel brush, flying toward the tiger’s lick.
The little squirrel hurriedly smoothed her fur, thinking that if the tiger licked her a few more times, she’d be bald in no time. Seeing this harmonious scene, the snake became even more anxious. Unable to hold back, it tried to approach again. Sure enough, the easily angered tiger mother stood up and roared at him, charging to attack. As expected, they ran off again, one chasing and one fleeing.
This time, the tiger chased the snake particularly far, and it seemed they really fought. When the tiger returned, its fur was unusually ruffled, and it was in a bad mood. It stood on the beach reef and roared continuously, the changing tones clearly cursing.
Song Xu looked towards the forest for a long time and finally saw Wu Mu appear. He stayed at a distance, looking at the tiger roaring at him and the little squirrel happily waving her hands, looking a bit pitiful.
