Chapter 515: Asu—ka?
As soon as the class ended, Ye Wenxin was overwhelmed with exhaustion. A nearby, delicate-looking girl noticed how weary she appeared and kindly asked, “Did you not understand the teacher’s lecture?”
Ye Wenxin weakly shook her head. She nearly lost her composure a few times after hearing Wu Yong mention her embarrassing past. She no longer had the Yin Pearl and couldn’t drink spirit wine during class. She could only rely on her willpower to push through.
Looking at the cute girl, Ye Wenxin instinctively acted like an adult and patted her on the head.
“Aun— I mean, sister is fine.” Ye Wenxin, who was used to referring to herself as an elder, suddenly remembered that she was supposed to be a young person now. The girl looked puzzled but continued chatting with Ye Wenxin. She even offered her some homemade snacks.
“Is this how your academy usually conducts classes?”
Ye Wenxin was hesitant to eat anything in Liu City. She pretended to eat the snack but secretly hid it in her sleeve. She then asked the girl about the teaching methods used in their classes.
“Not really. It’s just that Mr. Wu Yong likes cultivators so much. He often says if he didn’t lack spirit roots, he would have become a cultivator long ago.” The girl responded with eyes full of smiles, seemingly very fond of her new deskmate, Ye Wenxin. She answered all of Ye Wenxin’s questions without hiding anything.
Ye Wenxin nodded. Wu Yong’s first class made her question the academy’s teaching methods, but he seemed to be a unique case.
As she chatted with the girl, she suddenly noticed a familiar figure walking into the classroom from a distance. Modest as ever and holding a book. Spotting Ye Wenxin, the figure froze.
“Who is that girl?” Ye Wenxin couldn’t hold back her curiosity, only to hear a somewhat disgruntled response from the girl beside her.
“Her name is Wen Susu. She’s a bookworm who skips class every day. No one knows what kind of connections her family has, but even the teachers can’t do anything about her.” Ye Wenxin’s deskmate began complaining without caring if Wen Susu overheard. It looked like they had a poor relationship.
The other students shared similar sentiments, but Wen Susu appeared used to it. She took her seat in the farthest corner of the room. Ye Wenxin activated her special ability again, trying to determine if Wen Susu’s luck was just too faint to detect. But, once again, she found nothing peculiar about her.
They had another class, followed by a lunch break. While the students headed off to eat, Wen Susu remained alone, as always.
Meanwhile, a crowd surrounded Fairy Fengya. Even Ye Wenxin’s deskmate wanted to join them.
“Why do you all like Ye Xiaofeng so much?” Ye Xiaofeng was Fairy Fengya’s current alias. Ye Wenxin was confused about how this cold and aloof woman attracted boys and girls alike. Why did her own friendly and approachable demeanor have little effect on these children?
“Because she’s good-looking.” Her deskmate rolled her eyes dramatically to emphasize her preference for appearances. It was not just Fairy Fengya. Several attractive boys and girls in the grade seemed popular. In an era where even studying depended on looks, Ye Wenxin regretted her thirteen-year-old self had yet to mature. Her looks were passable at best.
“Shush, they’re coming,” her deskmate said excitedly. Ye Wenxin didn’t know what other notable figures were in the academy. She harbored anticipation, only to see those four delicate boys from yesterday. Each had a different expression and established persona.
All four seemed to have some standing within the Ten Great Dynasties. However, they had been sent to study here because they couldn’t become cultivators. Ye Wenxin had not expected to witness something similar to the fangirling behavior she used to see back on Earth in an academy like this.
The girls were raising a ruckus, finding those boys exceptionally attractive. Ye Wenxin watched speechlessly and accidentally made eye contact with one of the boys.
The boy paused for a moment. Ye Wenxin thought he was coming over to hit on her. However, after walking up to her, he quickly went around and sat next to Fairy Fengya. He proceeded to speak to her in a high-pitched voice.
Ye Wenxin almost died laughing.
Fairy Fengya glanced up faintly. With just one look, the boy’s courage deflated. Yet, he was unwilling to give up. He reached out, intending to grab Fairy Fengya’s hand boldly.
In an eye’s blink, Fairy Fengya had distanced herself from him.
Still undeterred, the boy tried to touch Fairy Fengya. However, a child’s efforts proved weak against the strongest in the realm. Not only did he fail to make contact, but he also fell on his butt, as miserably as could be. Despite this, some people still thought the boy had fallen too hard.
Ye Wenxin thought the academy needed to teach not only knowledge, but also proper conduct.
Unable to tolerate losing face, the boy made an even more reckless attempt this time. Fairy Fengya showed some leniency towards the child by lightly dodging.
The boy lost control and crashed headfirst into the nearby wall, leaving him bruised and battered. Seeing blood, he immediately started wailing, looking even more pathetic.
Ye Wenxin felt a headache coming on. She wanted to smack this troublesome kid before he could ruin their undercover mission. As she stepped forward, she caught a familiar, acrid smell, much more potent than before.
Ye Wenxin saw a woman in her thirties appear. She wore a revealing outfit. The slightest movement showed the pale flesh of her ample chest. It was an intoxicating sight for Ye Wenxin.
This woman perfectly matched the image of a seductive kitsune. To make matters worse, Ye Wenxin heard someone call out her name.
“Ms. Asuka.”
“Ms. Asu.”
This kitsune was Ms. Asuka, the person Ye Wenxin was looking for. She focused and examined the woman again. A thick pink gas emanated from her body. Oddly, the gas took the shape of hearts. As Ye Wenxin tried to make sense of her observation, pain flared in her back again.
She didn’t know what the pain signified. However, since it started when the kitsune appeared, Ye Wenxin decided to capture her. Just as she thought to approach, she noticed the pink gas gradually seeping out of the kitsune’s body. Surprisingly, the boy stopped crying.
Not only that, but his face turned bright red with embarrassment. He even began smiling foolishly at the kitsune.
