Release the Female Lead Ch. 516

Chapter 516: Immortal Lord Taohua

The kitsune chuckled. “What a good child.” Her voice was not gentle. It had an alluring tone that seemed to seep into one’s bones.

However, compared to Liu Churan and Third Senior Sister Liu Yansheng of Shura Hall, this kitsune lacked a certain quality.

Ye Wenxin couldn’t pinpoint what that quality was but kept staring at the kitsune.  She turned her gaze toward Ye Wenxin and smiled. “You must be Ye Xiaowen.”

Ye Xiaowen was Ye Wenxin’s current alias, not much different from Ye Xiaofeng.

Ye Wenxin nodded. “Hello, teacher.”

“My surname is Asu, and my given name is simply ‘Ka.’ I am the teacher responsible for instructing you on strategy.”

The kitsune introduced herself with a smile, leaving Ye Wenxin feeling incredulous. Foxes were known for their cunning, but even cunning creatures usually stayed out of the spotlight. Having a kitsune teaching strategy seemed like a recipe for disaster.

However, unable to voice her doubts, Ye Wenxin merely gave a light nod to the kitsune. She considered asking her deskmate later about the rumors surrounding this kitsune.

Was this kitsune the so-called Asuka, or had she imprisoned the real Asuka somewhere and masqueraded as her? Perhaps, unable to confront the Heavenly Book, she was thus using such a despicable tactic to undermine the academy from within.

As these thoughts crossed her mind, Ye Wenxin was about to find an excuse to leave. The kitsune seemed to sense something and suddenly dashed away.

Ye Wenxin’s eyes followed where she went and saw a man appear. Dressed in blue robes, he looked intellectual and handsome. When the man saw the kitsune, he smiled gently, and the two embraced.

Displeased hisses and tongue-clicking sounded all around. Everyone seemed already used to the kitsune and the man’s public displays of affection.

Ye Wenxin found the situation amusing. The romance between a human and a spirit had become an overused trope. Once she asked her deskmate, she learned the gossip about the couple.

The man was Mo Xiaohei of Mo Clan Village. He was responsible for teaching music, chess, calligraphy, and painting at the academy, where he was popular. The kitsune, under the name Asuka, was said to be Mo Xiaohei’s fiancée.

“What’s strange is that Ms. Asuka was very conservative and reserved before. I don’t know what happened, but she suddenly became passionate and expressive.”

Her deskmate marveled at Ms. Asuka’s transformation. However, from the description, Ye Wenxin was convinced that the kitsune had replaced the real Asuka for some ulterior motive towards the academy.

Ye Wenxin listened patiently and noticed the kitsune smiling much more sweetly. The couple playfully teased each other before quickly leaving together. The intriguing development made Ye Wenxin feel she would witness more interesting moments if she followed them.

So, she casually excused herself. Concealing her presence, she sought out the couple, hoping to see some drama or if the kitsune would slip up.

However, she had another encounter with Wen Susu along the way. She was hugging a book, appearing distracted. As Ye Wenxin approached for a closer look, she noticed random doodles all over the book. Wen Susu’s individuality had probably given reason for their other classmates to sabotage her book.

“What’s wrong?” Ye Wenxin asked, even though she already knew the answer. Wen Susu looked up but quickly lowered her head again to examine the book.

“I was just thinking, why are people so complicated?”

Wen Susu’s words sounded chuuni, as if she felt she were somehow outside the realm of humanity.

Ye Wenxin silently roasted her in her mind, but couldn’t help checking Wen Susu’s luck again. There were no changes. Even with her divine sense, she detected no signs that Wen Susu was not human. Perhaps this girl was so absorbed in her studies that she had become simple-minded.  So in her helpless situation, she developed such thinking.

“A stroke here, a stroke there; nothing complicated about that. It is the heart that’s complicated.” Ye Wenxin crouched, contemplating the mystery with Wen Susu. However, she was more interested in tracking the kitsune and Mo Xiaohei. She wanted to know if they were doing some ‘exercising’. Or rather, how the kitsune absorbed nourishment from Mo Xiaohei.

“So it’s the heart?” Wen Susu nodded, seeming to agree with that statement.

Ye Wenxin looked at this strange girl, who always looked melancholic. “Yes, this kind of complexity is something no amount of reading can resolve.” She elaborated, eager to leave and search for the kitsune.

Wen Susu didn’t stop her. Watching as Ye Wenxin walked away, she then turned and headed towards an entirely deserted direction. She seemed to be walking awkwardly, as if still unaccustomed to the way humans walked.

Even though she possessed wisdom and thought beyond human capacity, they weren’t perfect.

She soon arrived at a quaint little cabin. Pushing the door open, she found someone already inside.

The person had tear stains on her face. Seeing Wen Susu, she cried much more sorrowfully and rushed toward her.

“Your tears will soak me,” Wen Susu said, disdainfully pushing the woman away.

It was the kitsune who should have left with Mo Xiaohei.

“I don’t care! What did I do wrong? Mo Xiaohei dumped me!” The kitsune had assumed she was reuniting with her fiancé. However, Mo Xiaohei took her away to tell her he had fallen for someone else.

It was a student. He planned on resigning to leave this place with her. The news was a huge blow to the kitsune. She could not understand why she was always the one getting hurt.

“Maybe you should take a break before looking for someone new.” Wen Susu was already used to the kitsune heartbreaks. Since gaining human form, she had experienced countless breakups.

“No! I’ll die without a man!” The kitsune protested. Asuka’s identity was now unnecessary. She must think about what to do next.

Wen Susu said nothing. Suddenly, the image of Ye Wenxin, who had been talking to her earlier, flashed through her mind. She briefly thought it over and said, “Maybe she can help you.”

The kitsune was confused as to what she meant. Wen Susu only hinted vaguely.

“That person shares a similar fate to Immortal Lord Taohua. But she’s much more capable of attracting attention. Get close to her, and you might gain some romantic fortune.”

The kitsune appeared exultant at this information, convinced that Wen Susu would never deceive her. “Who is she? Why haven’t you mentioned her before?”
