The man with long legs swiftly strode over to Chi Yao, lifting him effortlessly. Chi Yao was utterly surprised as the man placed him in the car, only realizing what had happened afterward.
Immediately, Chi Yao tried to open the door and get out, but the man sitting beside him grabbed his hand, holding it in place.
“Fu Rong, what’s wrong with you? Let me out of the car!” Chi Yao couldn’t figure out what Fu Rong was up to. He had no interest in sharing a car with him. He had told him to stay away, but it seemed like this guy hadn’t heard a word. Did he not understand human language?
Chi Yao’s temper flared.
“To the hospital.” Fu Rong owned a private hospital, and the driver knew that was their destination, heading straight there.
“The hospital? Are you sick? Go see a doctor yourself and leave me out of it. Fu Rong, are you deaf?”
Chi Yao was about to continue his sarcastic remarks when suddenly, Fu Rong’s handsome face leaned in close, and in an instant, Chi Yao felt a soft pressure on his lips. Fu Rong had kissed him.
It was a light kiss, as if Fu Rong was afraid of hurting him by being too forceful.
Fu Rong caught Chi Yao’s clenched fist, stopping him from punching his face. His eyes were full of swirling emotions, and for a moment, Chi Yao was taken aback.
“Chi Yao, how long were you planning to hide this from me?”
Chi Yao looked confused.
Fu Rong gently placed his hand on Chi Yao’s stomach, being careful not to apply any pressure. Even through the down jacket, Chi Yao could feel the warmth of his touch.
“You and the baby—how long were you going to keep this a secret from me?”
Fu Rong’s voice was noticeably low and hoarse. Chi Yao slowly raised his eyes and saw the red veins in Fu Rong’s eyes. His lips moved, but the words got stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t say anything.
After a long silence, Chi Yao finally forced out a few words: “What?”
Fu Rong smiled faintly at Chi Yao, clasping their hands together again and placing them on Chi Yao’s belly.
“What’s in there, it’s mine, isn’t it?”
Chi Yao thought Fu Rong must have gone mad. How did he know? There was no way he could know.
“What nonsense are you talking about? What’s yours? If something’s wrong with your brain, go see a doctor!”
“Stop the car. I said stop the car!” Chi Yao quickly withdrew his hand and pushed Fu Rong away. The space was small, and the tension inside the car rose rapidly.
Chi Yao couldn’t admit to it. He had to deny everything. Fu Rong could never know that he was pregnant.
“You’re not thinking straight. Didn’t I make it clear last time? I told you to get out of my sight. If you don’t leave, don’t blame me if—”
Before Chi Yao could finish, Fu Rong placed a finger on his lips. He was smiling, but his eyes showed no warmth.
Chi Yao, wrapped in his down jacket, suddenly felt a chill run down his spine.
“Don’t make me angry, Chi Yao, seriously. Consider this a request.” He didn’t want to hurt Chi Yao—not then, and certainly not now.
He grabbed Chi Yao’s hand again and lightly kissed his fingers.
Chi Yao’s fingers trembled, his body shook, and his eyes filled with shock.
He couldn’t understand how things had escalated to this point. Chi Yao found it hard to believe. He had been so careful, doing everything he could to hide the truth. Nearly six months had passed, and Fu Rong had remained clueless—so how did he find out today?
How did he know?
Chi Yao was too shocked to control his thoughts, and Fu Rong could see right through him.
“I went to the hospital you visited. They did an excellent job keeping everything under wraps, hiding all your information, even changing your gender to female. There were no security camera recordings, nothing. You were careful. Very cautious.”
Fu Rong said all this with a smile, but his eyes showed none of it.
Chi Yao pursed his lips. So how had he been exposed?
“Someone must have seen you. Or do you think your face is so ordinary that no one would remember you after seeing you once?”
Chi Yao’s appearance was far too striking—anyone who saw him would not easily forget him. Fu Rong only needed to track down a few people who had visited the hospital on the same day as Chi Yao. Even just one witness could reveal enough for Fu Rong to piece things together.
And there had been that moment in the jewelry store, where Fu Rong had helped Chi Yao and noticed the protective way Chi Yao guarded his stomach, as though Fu Rong were trying to take something precious from him.
It all started making sense now.
Chi Yao did indeed have something precious, cradled inside his belly.
“The baby is mine, isn’t it?” Fu Rong asked again, seeking confirmation.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Even if Fu Rong had figured everything out, Chi Yao refused to admit it. Why should he?
“The next intersection, stop the car. Or do you want to fight with me right here in the car?”
Chi Yao raised his eyebrows slightly, a cold smirk playing on his lips.
