However, today, she had been sitting there for a long time and couldn’t even hold the carving pen steady.
So she simply got up and sat down in front of the coffee table, facing Pei Jingyan.
Just as Su Qingran was organizing her words and thinking about how to start the conversation, Pei Jingyan pulled out a paper bag from his pocket.
The aroma of roasted chestnuts wafted out from inside.
Clearly, Pei Jingyan had bought them on the way over since the chestnuts were still warm from being freshly roasted.
“They just came out of the pan,” Pei Jingyan said. “It’s perfect to eat now.”
Su Qingran raised her eyes to look at him, thought for a moment, and then said, “Thank you.”
But she really didn’t have much of an appetite.
Pei Jingyan took one chestnut, peeled it open, and seeing a clean dish for the tea set on the table, he took it and placed the peeled chestnut on it, sliding it toward Su Qingran.
Su Qingran glanced at him and then smiled: “It’s okay, I can peel it myself.”
“It’s still a bit hot,” Pei Jingyan said. “Let me do it.”
As he spoke, he took another chestnut.
Su Qingran interrupted his actions: “Mr. Pei, I’m sorry.”
All of Pei Jingyan’s expressions stiffened, and he looked up to meet Su Qingran’s gaze.
Su Qingran continued, “I was jilted yesterday, and my emotions are in chaos. You happened to come by, so I used you. I impulsively dragged you into this situation, and now that I think about it, I feel very embarrassed.”
Su Qingran unconsciously tightened her grip on the teacup, took a deep breath, and stated her purpose:
“So, Mr. Pei, if this has caused you any financial or emotional distress, please let me know, and I will do my best to make it right. As for our engagement, I personally feel that if we end it quickly, it might also impact your company. Since I don’t plan on dating again in the near future, maintaining this fiancé relationship for a few months, or even half a year or a year, isn’t a problem for me. So if you feel uncomfortable, we can end this ridiculousness as soon as possible. As for when to make it public, whenever you think is appropriate is fine; I will fully cooperate.”
After all, once this matter fades from everyone’s mind, and once they’ve speculated enough about the two companies, quietly separating wouldn’t cause much impact.
After finishing her statement, Su Qingran looked at Pei Jingyan and asked, “What do you think?”
Pei Jingyan looked at her and asked, “You just said that getting engaged to me was an impulse from yesterday, right?”
Su Qingran nodded: “Yes.”
She couldn’t help but feel a little curious: “So what about you, Mr. Pei? Was it an impulsive act of pity because you saw me in a difficult situation?”
However, Pei Jingyan did not answer her; instead, he looked at Su Qingran and asked slowly, word by word, “Qingran, if your impulse is still there, can you be impulsive once more and marry me?”
