Chapter 14
Upon hearing about the Life Association, which had kidnapped her original body, Yue Yin frowned, “Why are they looking for me?”
Jiang Suliu shook his head, unsure. He speculated, “It could be an attempt to recruit you, or it might be a threat.”
That group either wanted to resume their original plan by capturing Yue Yin again and sacrificing her, or they were trying to recruit her into the Life Association.
Neither scenario was favorable for Yue Yin.
Jiang Suliu appeared serious, but Yue Yin was too indifferent to dwell on the Life Association’s motives.
Those people had kidnapped her original body and caused her death, trapping Yue Yin in this body.
She found it bothersome to pursue them, and now they had come to her.
A pleasant surprise, really.
Yue Yin thought about the letters that had started appearing on her windowsill every night. Since she had recently destroyed the nightmare ghost, things had quieted down for two days, but she wasn’t sure if it would last.
Jiang Suliu’s tone was grave, “And it’s not just the Life Association; other organizations are also trying to approach you.”
As a newly revealed A-level ability user, Yue Yin’s life seemed peaceful, just like that of a typical high school girl. But according to Jiang Suliu’s information, the world of ability users was already in turmoil over her.
Rumors and speculations about Yue Yin were endless, and both the Metaphysical Society and the Institute of Science, which were aware of the truth, were making moves to recruit her.
Having an A-level ability user would significantly strengthen any organization.
Yue Yin remained disinterested and asked lazily, “Are there a lot of them?”
“Yes,” Jiang Suliu replied, placing documents on the table. “Including the Metaphysical Society.”
“The Metaphysical Society?” Yue Yin had heard about the organization during her time in the Special Management Department, often mentioned by Captain Li and Xiao Jun.
Captain Li had always remained neutral, but Xiao Jun and the others spoke of it with disdain.
Yue Yin asked curiously, “Are they strong?”
Jiang Suliu replied calmly, “Very strong.”
“There are fewer than ten S-level users worldwide. In our country, there are three the head of the Paranormal Incident Management Department, a false god from a heretical organization, and Zhou Haisheng, the leader of the Metaphysical Society.”
The Metaphysical Society’s status and influence among ability users were undeniable.
As Jiang Suliu spoke, Yue Yin was lying on the table, focusing on a drawing, much like the one she had drawn when they first met.
It was still a silver moon, surrounded by strange, twisted creatures. The chaotic lines resembled tentacles or eyes, like an immense universe.
The first time Jiang Suliu had seen it, he found the drawing ugly and incomprehensible, even childish and ridiculous.
But now, as he looked at her artwork, he noticed the lines twisting on the paper, and the creatures seemed to silently scream, radiating pain and despair.
The distorted figures extended their limbs, their tormented eyes fixed on the viewer, as if trying to pull them into the painting.
Jiang Suliu couldn’t tear his gaze away. Red veins appeared in his eyes as his expression turned feverish and eager.
It was as if a voice whispered in his ear, “Come, join us… enter the perfect world created by the gods.”
The seductive voice was soft and captivating, and Jiang Suliu’s face showed both pain and struggle.
At that moment, a girl’s voice suddenly interrupted him, “Keep talking.”
Yue Yin looked at him curiously. “Jiang Suliu, what are you staring at?”
Jiang Suliu snapped back to reality. When he looked at the drawing again, it appeared normal. The twisting lines and the cries of pain were gone, as though they had never existed.
Had Yue Yin not spoken, he might have been lost in the drawing.
Never before had Jiang Suliu been so keenly aware of how terrifying Yue Yin’s existence was.
Even the casual marks made by her brush could easily cause someone to lose their sanity and fall into madness.
No wonder there were ancient warnings against listening to or gazing upon gods.
And here he was, foolishly mentioning the Metaphysical Society and other S-level users, claiming they were powerful.
How laughable, how naïve.
What level of human strength could surpass a deity that had existed since the birth of the universe?
An ant may be strong, but would you ever compare it to a human?
Scientifically speaking, gods were beings from another dimension.
What humans saw as insurmountable challenges of time were, to gods, just silly lines that they could easily brush aside.
Jiang Suliu was overwhelmed by an indescribable sense of awe. He exhaled slowly and laughed lightly, “No matter how powerful the Metaphysical Society is, they can’t compare to the greatness of Lady Yue Yin.”
He pulled out an invitation from his bag, smiling, “Look, this is the Metaphysical Society’s invitation.”
Other organizations had been present when Yue Yin had been discovered, but thanks to protection from the Special Management Department and interference from the Jiang family, her identity had remained concealed. So even the Metaphysical Society knew little about her, except that she was a young girl.
Since they couldn’t get information from Yue Yin, and Captain Li refused to share any, they had turned to Jiang Suliu.
The Jiang family had connections with the Metaphysical Society, and the jade amulet Jiang Suliu wore had been given to him by one of their ability users.
“They want to meet with you for a discussion. This time, they’ve sent someone to City A specifically to find you. They hope you’ll agree to meet.”
“The person they sent is from the Zhou family, a direct descendant named Zhou Huai’an. He’s considered the most promising ability user of his generation, ranked B+, and not yet twenty. He has a good chance of advancing to A-level.”
Yue Yin didn’t seem interested. She was focused on coloring her drawing, filling it with strange and illogical bursts of color.
Jiang Suliu kept his eyes down, not daring to look at the picture again.
As Yue Yin added color, she glanced at the invitation but paused when she saw the name, “Zhou Huai’an?”
That name sounded familiar… Where had she heard it before?
Yue Yin thought for a moment but couldn’t recall, so she decided to let it go.
If it becomes a problem, she’ll just deal with it later.
Satisfied with her completed drawing, she set down her pen.
Taking a picture of it, she uploaded it as her profile image on her newly created Weibo account.
Looking at the artwork, she smiled with satisfaction. “Now no one can question whether I’m selling fake medicine!”
She had been promoting her “Church of the Moon” on Weibo, trying to get people to worship the “Thousand-Faced Moon,” but no one took her seriously. In fact, most mocked her for being silly.
Someone had even left a comment saying her Weibo username, “Thousand-Faced Moon123,” sounded random, and that her lack of a profile image made it seem like she was selling health supplements.
That comment had annoyed Yue Yin to the point of wanting to fight them.
So today, she made sure to draw her own avatar. Her art was so good, people would have to believe her now!
As the clock neared lunchtime, Yue Yin’s mood darkened. She turned to Jiang Suliu, “I’m really disappointed in you.”
Jiang Suliu was startled, “What?”
Yue Yin took a deep breath, her tone heavy, “It’s Thursday.”
Jiang Suliu was confused.
Yue Yin clenched her fists, looking serious, “I asked you to transfer me 100 yuan for a KFC family bucket. Why haven’t you done it yet?”
Thursday was KFC day! How could Jiang Suliu be so clueless?
Shaking her head in disappointment, she said, “Do you think I asked for 100 yuan because I want KFC but am too stingy to spend my own money? Is that what you think of me?”
Jiang Suliu hesitated and then replied, “Of course not.”
Yue Yin slapped the desk, her expression solemn, “Exactly! I’m a good person!”
“I didn’t ask anyone else to buy it for me, only you, because I value you!”
“Otherwise, why didn’t I ask my other followers? Why only you?”
Jiang Suliu hesitated, “Because you only have one follower?”
Yue Yin stared at him silently.
Jiang Suliu quickly corrected himself, “Because you believe in me.”
Yue Yin nodded, satisfied, “Exactly! I even thought about promoting you to High Priest.”
She sighed, “But look at you. I asked you for 100 yuan, and you didn’t act. You’ve really let me down.”
Jiang Suliu, fully understanding the situation, responded, “I’m sorry. I’ll transfer it right away.”
Inside, he was conflicted. After living as a wealthy heir all his life, today he had been PUA-ed by his new boss.
While Yue Yin and Jiang Suliu were talking, neither noticed their classmate in front of them, Zhang Baishui, questioning everything he knew.
Zhang Baishui had been chatting with his deskmate when he overheard Yue Yin saying, “I asked you for 100 yuan for a KFC family bucket. Why haven’t you transferred it yet?”
Startled, Zhang Baishui nearly jumped out of his seat. Was Yue Yin crazy to talk like that to Jiang Suliu?
He turned his head, nearly thinking Yue Yin had gone crazy for talking to Jiang Suliu like that!
After all, that was Jiang Suliu!
The crown jewel of the Jiang family, one of the top elite families. In school, he was the high and mighty figure everyone admired and sought favor with. Though he usually kept a low profile and treated others with gentle courtesy, no one ever doubted that he had a temper.
In fact, those who knew Jiang Suliu well understood that his seemingly gentle demeanor masked a cold and distant nature. He was the perfect example of someone warm on the outside but cold on the inside.
While he didn’t exude an overt sense of superiority, the sharp, prideful air common to the sons of rich families was no less present in him.
This was the first time Zhang Baishui had seen someone give Jiang Suliu direct orders.
Even more surprising, after a brief silence, he heard the usually calm and composed Jiang Suliu speak, still composed: “I transferred 10,000. Is that enough?”
“That’s enough! Oh, and don’t forget to bring me breakfast tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
…
Fragments of their conversation drifted from behind, and though Zhang Baishui and his desk mate couldn’t catch everything, they clearly recognized Jiang Suliu’s deferential tone.
The two exchanged a look, clasped their heads in disbelief, and silently screamed.
What was going on?!
Jiang Suliu and Yue Yin?
This is insane, the world has gone mad!!!
