I turned to glance at him and replied, “Not ugly.”
“Really, Master?”
You’re not worried about whether you might die, but rather if you look ugly? I never knew you were so vain! Before I could respond, I heard Feng Yexiao say, “I’m afraid you’ll dislike me for being ugly. Since you say I’m not ugly, then I must not be.”
“…” So he’s worried about me disliking him? That’s a difficult question to answer! I remained silent.
After getting his answer, Feng Yexiao stopped talking and turned away to lie down quietly.
Finally, the day came for Feng Yexiao’s transformation. Dr. Xie was in the room with Feng Yexiao, explaining the precautions to take during the transformation. Afterward, he gestured for me to say a few words.
Feng Yexiao’s cheeks were now covered in scales, leaving only his eyes untransformed. I thought for a moment and said, “I believe you can do it. Good luck!”
After saying that, I averted my gaze because I really wanted to touch Feng Yexiao’s dragon horns, but I had no right to indulge in such thoughts!
Once outside, I saw the sect leader and a group of senior brothers setting up formations around the house.
After asking, I learned that it was to prevent Feng Yexiao from accidentally damaging anything in the sect during his transformation, as well as to keep the news of him being a dragon from leaking out.
“Thank you, sect leader.”
“It’s nothing. Feng Yexiao is not only a true dragon descendant but also our disciple. It’s only natural to protect him. Yunhuai, will you join us in safeguarding him?”
“Of course!”
So, along with my brothers, I stood guard outside the house, while Dr. Xie also stayed outside, ready to check on Feng Yexiao as soon as the transformation was complete.
While guarding outside, a dazzling golden light shone from the room. After a while, we heard a clear dragon roar, not very loud, but likely muffled inside.
However, this was only Feng Yexiao transforming into a dragon; he would only be truly successful once he returned to human form.
After a long wait, a second beam of golden light shone from within, indicating that Feng Yexiao had succeeded!
My brothers and I stopped our guard, and I rushed into the room with Dr. Xie, ignoring my fatigue.
There lay Feng Yexiao quietly on the bed, his scales gone, returned to his normal appearance.
I asked Dr. Xie, “So this means he succeeded, right?”
Dr. Xie replied, “Yes, now he just needs to recuperate, and there shouldn’t be any major issues.”
That’s fantastic! Mission accomplished; I can finally resume my traveling plans!
I couldn’t agree to Feng Yexiao’s request, especially now that I knew he was a true dragon descendant; I definitely couldn’t agree to him.
If I remember correctly, dragons typically have two…
This is too frightening. I’ll take the opportunity while Feng Yexiao is asleep to pack up and leave. If he stops liking me after some time, it wouldn’t matter if I showed up later.
So, without even taking a break, I went to say goodbye to the sect leader.
Fearing that Feng Yexiao might hold a grudge, I even left him a letter.
Thus, I embarked on my journey.

Without Feng Yexiao by my side, I quickly changed my appearance back, and indeed, I looked much better this way. Suddenly, I remembered that all the effort I had put into disguising myself over the past decade had been for nothing, which made my teeth ache.
But now, everything was back on track.
After leaving the sect, I walked leisurely, stopping at places I liked and staying for a couple of extra days if the local food was good, and sometimes taking care of some low-level demon cultivators I encountered along the way.
Time flew by, and five years had passed.
During this time, I kept in touch with the sect and learned that after Feng Yexiao found out I had left, he didn’t say much. Instead, he threw himself into his cultivation, spending all his time in the library.
Recently, I settled in a small border county, where the pastries were delicious, so I stayed a few more days.
One day, while I was enjoying the cool breeze in my courtyard, a familiar young boy knocked on my door and said, “Immortal, some demon cultivators have come to the outskirts of the county, and there’s a fight happening!”
After hearing this, I replied, “Okay, I’ll head over now.”
I felt puzzled; the reason I settled in this small county was that I helped drive off a few demon cultivators. Why had they returned? Could it be for revenge?
This boy was someone I had saved after driving off the demon cultivators, so his words should be reliable.
When I arrived at the scene, I saw a man in blue fighting against several masked demon cultivators. I had no idea where these cultivators had come from, but they had run into this man.
I immediately flew over, sword in hand, and said, “Brother, I’m here to help you!”
As the man turned to look at me, I nearly dropped my sword in shock.
The person was—Feng Yexiao!
How did he find his way here?
But there was no time for me to ponder; I rushed to help Feng Yexiao fight off those demon cultivators.
Seeing Feng Yexiao again made me feel a bit disoriented. While battling the demon cultivators, I accidentally let my guard down, and one of the cultivators seized the opportunity to attack me. Feng Yexiao noticed and immediately stepped in front of me.
“Clang—”
Feng Yexiao took a sword strike for me!
Seeing Feng Yexiao get injured, the demon cultivators immediately fled.
I carried Feng Yexiao back to my residence to treat his wounds.
17
I was now bandaging Feng Yexiao’s injuries. Neither of us spoke, and the room was enveloped in a heavy silence.
It was such an awkward situation; after all, we hadn’t seen each other in five years, so it was normal for us to feel a bit estranged.
