Chapter 16
Shen Baozhu watched her crush leave, clasping her hands together. “Thank goodness Auntie Zhang will be better soon!”
She turned to Yue Yin and Shen Xioadi brother, smiling. “Yue Yin, let’s silently recite a prayer to the Daoist Deity in our hearts. That way, we can help Brother Huai’an.”
Yue Yin rejected her without hesitation, “No, thanks.”
Why would she, the mother of monstrous beings and the all-powerful Thousand-Faced Moon, pray to some other god? It would be humiliating if word got out.
Shen Baozhu, not expecting such a refusal, was taken aback. “Why? Don’t you want Auntie Zhang to recover?”
“Yeah, but…” Yue Yin replied bluntly, “I don’t like her.”
If she didn’t dislike Auntie Zhang, she’d have already taken care of the malicious spirit herself. There was no need to pray to some other deity like Shen Baozhu, who was naive enough to believe it would help.
Shen Baozhu was shocked, frowning deeply. “How can you say that? Even if we dislike someone, we can’t wish them ill.”
She couldn’t believe Yue Yin had changed so much. It was terrifying.
With the tone of an elder sister trying to correct a wayward sibling, Shen Baozhu said disapprovingly, “Besides, Auntie Zhang ended up like this because of you.”
Yue Yin was momentarily stunned, thinking Shen Baozhu had figured something out.
But then she heard Shen’s pitiful voice continue, “She only ran out and got into trouble after arguing with you. Regardless of what she said, don’t you feel any guilt seeing her like this?”
Faced with Shen Baozhu’s accusatory gaze, Yue Yin simply said, “Not my problem.”
Even though Yue Yin had been the mastermind, there was no way she’d admit it.
The number one rule of being a villain, never confess! Look at all the villains on TV—right at the crucial moment, they start monologuing about their crimes and motivations.
Yue Yin wasn’t about to make that mistake.
Men stay boys at heart, and evil gods are forever innocent!!
So, no, admitting anything was off the table. Instead, Yue Yin turned her head and said, “Shen Baozhu, you must be out of your mind.”
With a confident tone, she added, “That saintly martyr complex of yours? It’ll get you struck by lightning someday.”
That one simple line nearly made Shen Baozhu faint from anger.
She took a few deep breaths, trying to find a comeback but, not being good at insults, she could only say with a sullen voice, “Well, you’ll be disappointed then. Auntie Zhang will recover soon.”
Yue Yin raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And how do you know that?”
Shen Baozhu, slightly annoyed, explained, “Because with Huai’an here, Auntie Zhang will be fine.”
Zhou Huai’an came from a prestigious Taoist family. He had been chosen by the Grand Master, the Daoist Deity of Supreme Purity, at the age of three. His talents were exceptional, and he was already a B-level practitioner. Ordinary malevolent spirits were no match for him.
With his intervention, the spirit haunting Auntie Zhang wouldn’t last long.
Yue Yin, ever the skeptic, crossed her arms. “Really? I don’t believe it.”
Shen Baozhu gave her a smug smile and didn’t bother arguing. “You wouldn’t understand.”
Yue Yin was just an ordinary person, unaware of the world of practitioners and malevolent spirits. She had no idea how powerful Huai’an was. It was like a frog at the bottom of a well, completely unaware of the vast world beyond its limited view.
But Yue Yin just smiled back. “Well, I don’t think he can handle it.”
Just then, a bloodcurdling scream echoed from inside the house.
Everyone froze in shock, and Yue Yin, playfully peeking around, fanned the flames. “What happened? Oh no, did Master Zhou fail?”
Shen Baozhu, startled, widened her eyes in panic. “That’s impossible! Huai’an is amazing…”
In the next second, Zhou Huai’an’s agonizing scream rang out, sending everyone into a state of shock.
The once quiet living room fell so silent that you could hear a pin drop.”See?” Yue Yin smiled innocently. “I told you he couldn’t do it.”
