Chapter 009: Bald Head
Liang Kefeng went to open the door and turned on the lights in the front hall. Before she even reached the iron gate, she sensed something was off.
It was the smell of smoke; as far as she knew, Uncle Kun didn’t smoke.
Was the visitor not Uncle Kun? Her vigilance immediately heightened.
But she had already turned on the lights and was moving forward, so it was too late to pretend no one was home.
“Who is it?” she called out.
“It’s me, Ah Dan. Is Baoli or Baoling home? Is your dad here?”
Who is Ah Dan?
Liang Kefeng took a few steps forward and saw a man standing outside the iron gate.
The man was smoking, not particularly tall, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with greasy hair that hadn’t been washed in days.
A shiny gold chain hung prominently around his neck.
Liang Kefeng stood two steps away from the iron gate. “My dad isn’t back yet. Who are you looking for?”
Seeing the unfamiliar girl, Ah Dan was a bit surprised. He had heard that his cousin’s husband had a daughter in the mainland, and it seemed this was her.
He smiled and asked, “Is Sister Ping at home?”
“She’s not here either; they all went out.”
It was clear that the girl had no intention of opening the door for him, so Ah Dan had to say, “Tell your dad that Ah Dan from Sifang City came looking for him. I heard about the situation at your mahjong parlor today; ask him if he wants me to help out.”
Liang Kefeng had a rough idea of what was going on. Just as she was about to speak, she heard hurried footsteps coming from around the corner of the stairs.
This time, it really was Uncle Kun.
Uncle Kun, wearing a black felt hat, ran up, panting. He was startled to see someone at the door, and as he approached, he recognized Ah Dan. He hurriedly greeted him, “Brother Dan, what are you doing here? I…”
“I specifically came to find you this afternoon, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find you.”
Ah Dan looked at Uncle Kun in astonishment. He had heard from his cousin that they were planning to dismiss Uncle Kun, yet here he was, reporting for duty so late—clearly feeling a strong sense of crisis.
Ah Dan said, forcing a smile, “Why are you here so late too?”
Uncle Kun replied, “I have something to discuss with the boss.”
Ah Dan added, “My cousin and her husband aren’t home.”
Liang Kefeng shot Uncle Kun a glance, saying, “Uncle Kun, my dad isn’t home. Could you please help entertain the guest?”
Uncle Kun quickly understood that the young lady wanted him to send Ah Dan away. “I understand, young lady,” he replied.
As he spoke, he took off his hat, bent slightly at the waist, and looked at Ah Dan: “Brother Dan, the boss asked me to discuss the matter concerning the Sifang City branch with you. It’s a coincidence that I ran into you tonight. Please come this way; we can talk in the accounting room.”
Ah Dan hadn’t wanted to bother with Uncle Kun, but hearing the mention of the accounting room and knowing there might be some benefits involved, he quickly changed his attitude. He smiled and said, “Alright, then let’s have a chat.”
He turned to Liang Kefeng and said, “I’m leaving now, sister. Next time you should call me ‘cousin’.”
Liang Kefeng only smiled faintly in response, eager to send him away.
Uncle Kun went downstairs with Ah Dan and returned not long after. When Liang Kefeng opened the door for him, she asked, “He’s gone?”
“He’s gone. I took the liberty of giving him three thousand yuan to help settle matters at Sifang City. This Ah Dan is connected to Bailong at Sifang City, and the trouble he came looking for today was also from Bailong.”
At this point, those matters were temporarily unimportant. Uncle Kun knew he was just talking to ease his mind.
As they went up to the third floor, he felt increasingly nervous, as if he were a traitor helping a prince conspire against the throne.
No, he was correcting the chaos.
Uncle Kun quickly reassured himself that he was on the righteous side.
Peering into the innermost room, he was horrified to see Yuan Dong and Abao in such a pitiful state. His face turned pale, and he quickly returned to the living room, asking, “Where are the others?”
Liang Kefeng replied, “They’re all in Yuan Baoli’s room. I cut off one of Zhu Fengping’s fingers; I didn’t touch the three kids.”
The young lady knew how to maintain her composure. Uncle Kun, feeling a bit scared, said, “Young lady, you’re too bold. With so many of them, what if you couldn’t control the situation? Next time, if you find yourself in such a situation, you should run away first, call the police, or find a way to consult with me, understand?”
“I understand.” Liang Kefeng lightly clenched her fist and found something to lean against. “I’ve practiced with my master, so you can rest assured.”
“Thank heavens! I always thought something was strange, but I didn’t expect there to be such bizarre things in this world. I had no idea the boss had a twin brother.”
The original book hadn’t mentioned this at all. Liang Kefeng replied, “I didn’t know either.”
“Ah, I can’t believe the boss left last year…” As he spoke, Uncle Kun’s eyes turned red, “He left, and none of us knew— we were all kept in the dark. Young lady, we’re sorry; we didn’t take good care of the boss. You must take care of yourself.”
Liang Kefeng felt no sorrow for this father she had never met, as today she had avenged him.
“Uncle Kun, this isn’t your fault. I don’t know anyone else here, and I still need your help with the next steps. Let’s sit down and talk.”
“It’s all my responsibility.” After sitting down on the sofa, Uncle Kun asked, “What should we do next? You… what you did, is that considered self-defense? Is it appropriate to call the police?”
He worried that reporting to the police might not be appropriate, but how else could they handle it?
Settle it privately? Negotiate terms to let them go?
Liang Kefeng had already planned everything out. She said, “You need to help me with three things.”
“Young lady, you say it.”
“First, you should find two trustworthy people to take Zhu Abao to the hospital and say that he injured himself. Until the matter is resolved, don’t notify his family.”
At the main shop, Uncle Kun still had plenty of people he could use, so this wasn’t a big issue.
The night breeze blew in from outside, and Liang Kefeng wrapped her coat tighter around herself as she got up to close the living room window.
“Second, you need to accompany Yuan Dong, my so-called ‘fake dad,’ to the police station to turn himself in, and make sure he doesn’t mess anything up…”
Uncle Kun asked, “Does he agree to turn himself in?”
“He has to agree; I already talked to him about it. I’ll go into the details with you later. As soon as he is detained by the police for investigation, you should immediately find a lawyer to help recover all the assets that Zhu Fengping transferred away.”
“Okay. I’ll go find the lawyer Gao that your dad usually uses.” Uncle Kun noted silently that he would go to the police station first, then find lawyer Gao.
“Third, help me find a better burial plot for my dad. I want to have a new gravestone for him.”
Currently, Liang Yaozu was buried under Yuan Dong’s name, and it was clear that the burial had been done hastily.
“I’ll take care of that personally.”
Uncle Kun looked up at Liang Kefeng. Just a moment ago, he had been worried, but now his eyes sparkled with excitement. He hadn’t expected the young lady to remain so clear-headed and decisive after such a huge event!
This is what the boss’s daughter should be like!
“When buying the burial plot, buy an extra one.” Although Liang Kefeng hadn’t found her cousin’s body, she still wanted to set up a gravestone for her. It would be for the original owner, after all.
Uncle Kun was taken aback for a moment but didn’t ask why she wanted to buy an extra plot. He simply nodded in agreement.
“For now, that’s all. We can discuss the shop matters later.”
Uncle Kun went downstairs to find help, while Liang Kefeng returned to her room. She walked past Yuan Dong and stopped in front of Abao.
Abao had a large pool of blood around his groin area. Since he didn’t dare to move, the bleeding had already stopped on its own.
Liang Kefeng pulled the cloth from his mouth.
Abao didn’t dare to meet her gaze and shrank back in fear, quietly pleading, “I was wrong; I beg you not to kill me.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. Be grateful to society.” If it were during the Iron Curtain era, he would have already been executed!
Here, if she hadn’t acted to castrate him, and he hadn’t even had a chance to harm her, there likely wouldn’t have been grounds for prosecution.
Hearing that Liang Kefeng wouldn’t kill him, Abao was so moved he started to tear up, repeatedly thanking her.
“I’ll send someone to take you to the hospital soon. Do you know what to say when you get there?”
Abao froze for a moment and quickly nodded, “I’ll say I accidentally cut myself.”
Liang Kefeng nodded in satisfaction, “Who says you’re stupid? You’re much smarter than Yuan Dong! I don’t even need to teach you.”
Abao didn’t know whether to feel embarrassed or flattered; he forced a smile, making his face look even more crooked.
Inside, he was crying. He hadn’t married the girl of his dreams and had turned into a eunuch instead!
Meanwhile, Yuan Dong, who had been scorned, was curled up under a stool, not daring to move.
Not long after, Uncle Kun returned with people to take Abao to the hospital. He then personally took Yuan Dong to the nearby police station to turn himself in.
After they left, Liang Kefeng tidied the room and then took out a handgun.
She had asked Uncle Kun earlier, and according to the current laws in Hong Kong, citizens had the freedom to carry guns.
Holding the gun, she opened the door to Yuan Baoli’s room and switched on the light.
The sudden brightness caused Zhu Fengping to squint her eyes slightly; she had woken up not long after fainting and had been listening to the commotion outside, unsure of what had happened. It seemed someone had been taken to the hospital, and she was feeling extremely anxious.
When she looked up at Liang Kefeng again, she was shocked to see that Liang was holding a gun!
Liang Kefeng didn’t spare her a glance but walked toward her three children.
“Mm!!!! Mm!!”
Zhu Fengping struggled violently.
A painful whimper came from her throat.
She was afraid Liang Kefeng would target her children!
The three Yuan siblings sat back-to-back on the ground, with old clothes over their heads, unable to see what was happening around them. However, they seemed to sense the danger and were restlessly fidgeting.
Liang Kefeng yanked the clothes off their heads, and the three siblings looked at her and the gun in her hand, their panic instantly igniting.
“I’ll take the socks out of your mouths, but don’t shout or scream, otherwise…” Liang Kefeng raised the gun in her hand, “Got it?”
The three siblings exchanged glances, momentarily forgetting to respond.
“If you understand, nod your heads.”
Yuan Baoli was the first to understand. She nodded to indicate she understood, then hurriedly bumped her shoulders against her younger brother and sister to urge them to agree quickly.
Yuan Baoling and Yuan Baoquan had long lost the arrogant demeanor they had a few hours ago; they lowered their heads to avoid Liang Kefeng’s gaze and, under their sister’s reminder, all nodded.
After pulling the socks from their mouths, Liang Kefeng sat down on a nearby chair. “Do you know what you did wrong?”
The three siblings moved their stiff mouths, wanting to shake their heads but too scared to do so; they only dared to lower their heads and remain silent.
“You knew what would happen tonight, which is why Yuan Baoling and Yuan Baoquan were unusually quiet at dinner. Did your mother, Zhu Fengping, tell you to ignore any sounds you hear tonight?”
No one dared to respond. The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
Liang Kefeng stared at them: “If yes, nod your heads; if no, shake your heads! If anyone dares to lie, I’ll—take them out! Let’s see if anyone’s answer is different!”
Saying this, she didn’t give them time to think and directly began counting down: “3… 2… 1!”
The three siblings were so scared they were drenched in sweat, nodding in unison.
Liang Kefeng smiled in satisfaction.
“So, you admit that your mother is the mastermind and that you are all accomplices!”
Still, no one dared to speak, only displaying fearful expressions.
Liang Kefeng played with the gun in her hand. “Yuan Baoquan!”
Yuan Baoquan, suddenly called out, looked panicked and opened his mouth. “Huh?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be a man? You go first; how do you think you should be punished?”
Yuan Baoquan glared at the gun in Liang Kefeng’s hand and shook his head stubbornly. “I… I’m the youngest… let my sister go first!”
“Coward! You’re the type I despise the most.” Liang Kefeng raised the gun, aiming it at Yuan Baoquan’s forehead.
Yuan Baoquan was so scared he started crying. “Mom! Mother!”
His two sisters shut their eyes in terror, trembling all over.
Zhu Fengping tried to get up but couldn’t move at all; she could only cry out in despair, almost as if mourning for her son, as if suddenly all hope had vanished.
Who would have thought Liang Kefeng could be so unpredictable?
How could she have been so blind as to offend her back then?!!
Yuan Baoquan begged, “Please don’t kill me! I beg you, I won’t call you ‘Mainland Girl’ or ‘Baldy’ anymore! It’s my bad, I was disrespectful… Sister Kefeng… Miss, I beg you! You can slap me! Slap me! Slapping me will relieve your anger! Really, slapping me is the best way to relieve anger! But please don’t shoot!”
Liang Kefeng smiled slightly and began counting down again: “3… 2… 1!”
She pulled the trigger!
“Don’t!!!” Yuan Baoquan screamed, closing his eyes in panic.
The gun did not go off.
It was an empty gun without bullets!
Liang Kefeng looked down and saw that Yuan Baoquan had peed his pants from fear!
The other Yuan family members were stunned and, upon realizing that Liang Kefeng had only pretended to shoot, broke down in tears as if they had been given a second chance!
Liang Kefeng put away the gun and sat down again.
Yuan Baoquan seemed to have been scared into Stockholm syndrome; he swallowed hard and said gratefully, “Miss, thank you for sparing me! I’ll be your servant in this life!”
“Who wants you to be my servant?!” Liang Kefeng said disdainfully.
She turned to Yuan Baoling. “What about you? Yuan Baoling, do you have anything to say?”
Yuan Baoling cried, her voice a bit incoherent. “I’m sorry, it’s me… I’m not a human; I shouldn’t look down on people. I’m… I’m a dog; I’m worse than a pig or dog…”
“Worse than a pig or dog?” Liang Kefeng raised her gun. “Yuan Baoquan just got lucky; I wonder how lucky you are?”
Yuan Baoling covered her ears in fear, and in her agitation, she fainted.
Liang Kefeng lightly kicked her. “If you’re pretending to faint, I’ll shoot you twice.”
Yuan Baoling had initially wanted to imitate her mother’s act of fainting but, upon hearing Liang Kefeng’s threat of two shots, she couldn’t continue the charade. Cautiously, she opened her eyes, crying softly, and suddenly had a new idea: “Starting tomorrow, I’ll go to the nursing home to volunteer every day until I graduate.”
That seemed acceptable.
Liang Kefeng nodded slightly. “Good, approved. Yuan Baoquan, did you hear that?”
Yuan Baoquan hurriedly said he would volunteer too, and Yuan Baoli also agreed.
“Okay, a year later, I will check your volunteer records. If you don’t do it…” Liang Kefeng took three bullets from the magazine and handed one to each of them, “Got it?”
The three siblings looked at the bullets handed to them, trembling as they replied, “Y… yes.”
But things were not over yet.
Liang Kefeng took out a small paper bag containing sharp blades. “What did I say this afternoon? I said I hold grudges. Whoever called me ‘Baldy’ must shave their hair and eyebrows. Who’s first?”
