Chapter 25
Li Shushu, having received the answer she wanted, left, fully satisfied.
Before leaving, she casually asked, “By the way, Yue Yin, did you notice anything strange?”
Yue Yin absentmindedly rubbed her fingers, recalling the sensation of crushing the forbidden item B87 the night before, a slight smile playing on her lips.
Li Shushu stared at her curiously, “Yue Yin?” After offering up the first sacrifice, she had discreetly moved the forbidden item B87 into Yue Yin’s drawer.
The association was divided on how to handle Yue Yin. No one really knew what kind of power she had gained after surviving that sacrifice, only that she seemed to have awakened as an ability user.
Some said she was an A-level ability user, which explained how she killed the nightmare spirit sent to punish her. Others believed she could only be B-level at best, arguing that no one her age had ever awakened as a high-level ability user. They assumed the nightmare spirit had encountered someone else, and Yue Yin simply got lucky.
The argument remained unresolved until a priest intervened, instructing everyone to carry out a plan to breed the nightmare spirit.
To this day, no one knew Yue Yin’s true power level or what abilities she had gained from surviving the sacrifice.
After offering the first sacrifice, Li Shushu, almost on a whim, placed the forbidden item in Yue Yin’s drawer, aiming to see if Yue Yin would be the next to die, or if she had indeed gained unnatural powers, making her the key to resurrecting the Dark One, as foretold.
That morning, upon arriving at school, Li Shushu immediately checked Yue Yin’s drawer. When she saw that B87 was gone, her anticipation for Yue Yin’s arrival skyrocketed.
But now, Yue Yin appeared perfectly normal.
Had her suspicions been confirmed? Li Shushu clenched her fingers tightly, staring intently at Yue Yin, not wanting to miss any subtle change in her expression.
Yue Yin, feeling Li Shushu’s intense gaze, looked up and smiled sweetly. “No, I didn’t see anything.”
Li Shushu, still suspicious, glanced toward Yue Yin’s drawer, likely pondering where the B87 had gone.
At that moment, Yue Yin seemed to remember something.
“Oh, right. Last night, I found a smelly box in my drawer. I didn’t know what it was, so I threw it in the trash,” she said casually.
Li Shushu shot up from her seat, eyes wide. “You threw B8… the box in the trash?!”
“Yeah,” Yue Yin replied innocently, “I threw it in the trash can by the school gate.”
Li Shushu was thoroughly shaken. If Yue Yin had destroyed B87, it would confirm her suspicions. But if the object had simply been discarded, it was a different matter entirely.
With an unpleasant expression, Li Shushu hurriedly excused herself and left.
Jiang Suliu watched her retreating figure and raised an eyebrow. “Is she really going to rummage through the trash?”
Yue Yin laughed.
Though B87 was a useless object, its abilities were quite handy. Yue Yin didn’t know Li Shushu’s exact plans, but she was certain they wouldn’t allow such a valuable forbidden item to escape their control.
Little did they know, the forbidden item B87 wasn’t the only thing discarded. The A-level nightmare spirit they had painstakingly nurtured to wreak havoc at the school had already been beaten senseless and fled the campus.
In a good mood, Yue Yin pulled out a comic book from her drawer, ready to relax and read.
Jiang Suliu, meanwhile, frowned as he watched Li Shushu leave.
Though he hadn’t attended class the previous day, he had seen the news and quickly realized that the incident was likely linked to a nightmare spirit.
The ability users hired by the Jiang family concluded that the sophomore girl who had gouged out her own eyes and jumped off a building had probably encountered the demon by accident, leading to her horrific actions.
At first glance, it all seemed like an unfortunate coincidence, the girl simply being unlucky enough to become the spirit’s target.
Jiang Suliu hadn’t thought much more about it—until he saw Li Shushu approaching Yue Yin. At that moment, the image of the deceased girl from the news flashed through his mind.
The girl who jumped had eyes that resembled Li Shushu’s… and Li Shushu just so happened to have a cousin in her sophomore year at the same school.
Could it all really be just coincidence?
Jiang Suliu, now suspicious of Li Shushu, turned to Yue Yin, puzzled. “Why did you agree to her invitation?”
He didn’t believe Yue Yin had missed the obvious oddities surrounding Li Shushu. On the contrary, as a deity, Yue Yin would have sensed them immediately.
Given that Yue Yin accepted the invitation despite knowing something was off, Jiang Suliu assumed she didn’t regard Li Shushu’s petty schemes as a threat and was confident she could walk away unscathed.
But just as this thought crossed his mind, Yue Yin looked at him like he was an idiot.
“What invitation? I didn’t agree to anything.”
Jiang Suliu was stunned, raising an eyebrow in surprise. “But you told Li Shushu you’d attend her birthday party.”
Yue Yin glanced at him, perplexed. “That’s impossible.”
She thought for a moment before realization dawned. “Oh, are you talking about what I just said to her? I was just messing with her.”
Jiang Suliu: …??
She lowered her head again to resume reading, her tone casual. “I was just playing around. Did you actually take that seriously?”
Come on, she was a evil god.
She wasn’t some upstanding moral figure—why would she ever keep her word?
Yue Yin’s nonchalant attitude as she said this made her seem like a total scoundrel.
Jiang Suliu remained silent, watching her closely. He wanted to say something but held back, realizing his understanding of this evil god had deepened.
…He had been far too naïve.
He had honestly believed Yue Yin’s immense confidence in her power led her to dismiss all of Li Shushu’s schemes and calmly accept the invitation.
Who could have guessed that she had been merely joking around, fully intending to ditch the party and leave Li Shushu hanging?
Why had he ever believed an evil god would keep her promises? She even constantly dangled promotions, telling him he’d be made her High Priest soon.
Jiang Suliu could already imagine how enraged Li Shushu would be a few days from now.
Yue Yin, for her part, didn’t care how Li Shushu would feel after being stood up. She spoke carelessly, “I was just fooling around with her. Why would I actually go to that so-called birthday party?”
As a true evil god, Yue Yin had countless fanatical followers. And everyone knew that fanatics were the most extreme worshippers, willing to sacrifice anything, even their own lives, for their god.
So with just a glance, Yue Yin could easily discern what kind of person Li Shushu was.
Those intense, hidden eyes filled with excitement, the barely visible totem tattoo on her wrist, the repressed eagerness in her words…
How interesting, her own classmate was one of her fanatics.
As for what Li Shushu intended to do, it wasn’t hard to guess. Mentioning a party, it was likely related to some sort of ritual.
Being an evil god, Yue Yin had seen it all. Whatever Li Shushu was up to was nothing more than a tired old trick her followers had played out countless times before.
If Li Shushu had something new and interesting, maybe Yue Yin would have been willing to play along.
But as it stood? “I’d rather go home and play video games.”
Suddenly, Yue Yin tensed up, realizing something. “Oh no! I didn’t play last night! What if Shen Xiaodi beat me to Diamond rank?!”
It was all because of Li Shushu and her group. They deliberately brought in a forbidden item B87, to mess with her, which made her miss out on playing games last night.
Was this their strategy? Unable to defeat her in terms of skill, they resorted to this kind of psychological torment?
Wow, that’s so underhanded.
Yue Yin was feeling anxious. She hadn’t played games last night, so Shen Xiaodi must have secretly ranked up without her!
She immediately turned to Jiang Suliu, squinting her eyes. “Did you play games with Shen Xiaodi last night?”
Jiang Suliu had been deep in thought about Li Shushu, the girl who jumped, and the whole cult situation. He didn’t expect Yue Yin to switch topics so quickly.
Raising an eyebrow, he replied, “No, I didn’t. He did ask me to play, but since you told me not to, I made an excuse and turned him down.”
Yue Yin patted him on the shoulder approvingly. “Good. Next time, you can’t play with him unless I say so.”
She quickly launched the game, while coming up with an excuse for herself. “He’s just an elementary school kid. If he doesn’t focus on his studies and keeps thinking about gaming all day, how’s he going to keep up with his grades?”
She said this with such a tone of concern, as if she were a big sister genuinely worried about her little brother’s education.
Jiang Suliu’s expression turned complicated, as if he wanted to say something but held back.
Considering that Yue Yin was the type to dump all her homework on him, sleep through class, and spend breaks eating, where did she get the nerve to criticize Shen Xiaodi about his studies?
Yue Yin didn’t care how hypocritical her words might have sounded. She logged into the game and immediately checked Shen Xiaodi’s match history, and, sure enough, he had lost a few more stars.
She was quite satisfied. “Haha, that noob elementary kid. Of course, when he plays on his own, he just loses ranks.”
Jiang Suliu, standing beside her: … Honestly, your gaming skills aren’t that great either.
After a moment’s thought, Jiang Suliu decided to change the subject. “I browsed the Divine Descent Forum today. The case at No. 1 High School is getting a lot of attention—it’s highlighted in red now.”
When a post gets highlighted in red, it means the authorities have confirmed the presence of malevolent intent. If an ability user accepts the mission, they can not only earn a reward but also gain points to receive an official certificate. With such a certificate, they’re allowed to promote the deity they worship.
Yue Yin, still clutching her game, froze. “Wow, I totally forgot about that.”
If she had known, she would have taken that dice yesterday and handed it over. That way, she could’ve openly promoted her Moon Cult.
Sigh, it was all Zhou Huai’an and the others’ fault. They made her forget such an important thing.
