Late at night, with no one around, just a lone Alpha and a lone Omega, what was he sneaking into his room for?
Rong Yi lay on the bed, squinting at the shadow by the bed, his heart pounding wildly. Could it be that Chen Keyao had suddenly changed his mind and realized the benefits of having an Omega around? But wasn’t this a bit too sudden? There was no time to mentally prepare for this at all.
No, no, that couldn’t be it. Rong Yi wasn’t someone so easy to mess with, no way he’d just lift the covers obediently because someone wanted a night visit.
Besides, what if he got spat on again like last time?
But Chen Keyao was incredibly strong, and Rong Yi knew he wouldn’t be able to resist if he really tried something. If Chen Keyao truly had bad intentions, wouldn’t this be where Rong Yi’s story ended? Moving into an Alpha’s house so casually—hadn’t he underestimated the risks?
As Rong Yi struggled internally, the figure beside the bed, who had been scrutinizing him for a while, finally moved.
At first, when he saw the person moving, Rong Yi’s heart jumped into his throat. But then he couldn’t help but feel confused. The figure slowly turned around and, tiptoeing, crouched down by the bedside cabinet.
Rong Yi had only been here for two days, and he didn’t bring much luggage, so he had never opened that cabinet. He didn’t even know what was inside.
The person held their breath and slowly, carefully, pulled open the drawer, only to curse softly under their breath after finding nothing useful.
Rong Yi, who had been watching through squinted eyes in the dim light, was suddenly startled.
That voice, though short, didn’t sound quite right. Rong Yi had a deep impression of Chen Keyao’s voice, finding it particularly pleasant—a rich, magnetic baritone that made half of Rong Yi’s body tingle whenever he spoke closely to him.
But this person’s voice… it really wasn’t great.
So, who could this person be, sneaking into the room in the dead of night and rummaging through the cabinets?
Rong Yi suddenly remembered what Chen Keyao had told him in the kitchen earlier.
Recently, several households in this neighborhood had been robbed.
…No way, could he really be that unlucky?
Just as Rong Yi’s heart was pounding with fear, the thief who had found nothing in the bedside cabinet straightened up and quietly moved towards the wardrobe.
Now squinting harder, Rong Yi could clearly see that this guy reeked of sleaziness. His hunched figure was a far cry from Chen Keyao’s imposing presence. Rong Yi suddenly felt ashamed for the brief excitement he had experienced earlier.
But what should he do now?
Seeing the thief carefully open the wardrobe and reach inside, Rong Yi became furious.
It was bad enough having a stranger touch his clothes, but now this guy was about to rummage through his pockets too? No way! Rong Yi sized up their respective builds and felt that he might actually have a fighting chance.
He looked around cautiously, but there were no suitable weapons within reach, making him a bit uncertain.
Just as the thief’s hand was about to touch the clothes in the wardrobe, Rong Yi was about to spring into action when suddenly, there was a loud “clang” from the floor.
Both the thief and Rong Yi were startled. The thief quickly crouched down to pick up whatever had fallen.
As the thief stood back up and turned towards the bed where Rong Yi lay, Rong Yi was already sitting up, craning his neck and staring wide-eyed at the object the thief had just picked up.
The air suddenly grew tense.
In the dim light, Rong Yi caught a fleeting glimpse of something sharp and cold.
It was over. The thing that had fallen, and the thief had just picked up, was a kitchen knife, about 20 centimeters long, with a sharp point. If Rong Yi wasn’t mistaken, he had used it to chop vegetables earlier that evening—it was razor-sharp.
In the face of sudden fear, Rong Yi’s mind went blank. Whether by luck or not, the thief holding the knife seemed just as panicked as him.
But there’s a big difference between being empty-handed and holding a deadly weapon, and the thief’s confidence clearly showed.
After a moment of mutual staring, as Rong Yi silently gulped, the thief suddenly raised the knife toward him.
“D-d-d-don’t move!” The knife trembled in the thief’s hand. “L-l-lie down!”
Rong Yi thought those two commands were a bit contradictory, but recognizing the situation, he wisely kept his mouth shut.
Seeing this, the thief began to cautiously back toward the door. But before he could get far, he tripped over something and stumbled backward.
Without thinking, Rong Yi sprang from the bed, lifting the blanket and delivering a flying kick towards the thief. However, having been half-asleep, his strength was lacking. The kick sent the thief staggering back a few steps but didn’t knock him down.
The thief, though unsteady on his feet, held tightly to the knife. After crashing into the door with a loud “thud,” he became enraged and charged at Rong Yi, swinging the knife wildly.
Panicking, Rong Yi grabbed a pillow and threw it at the thief, then yanked the blanket over his head.
At that moment, there was a sudden knock on the door.
“Rong Yi?” came a deep, magnetic voice that was all too familiar to him. “Are you okay in there?”
Rong Yi, still hidden under the blanket, took a deep breath, and with all the strength he could muster, shouted from his diaphragm, “Thief——!”
Rong Yi didn’t see what happened in the next few seconds.
With the blanket blocking most of his view, all he heard was the door being thrown open, the thief cursing, the sound of a scuffle, and Chen Keyao calling his name.
When Rong Yi finally pulled the blanket off his head, there was another loud “clang” not far in front of him.
The knife had fallen to the floor again.
The thief was now disarmed. It was two against one, and with an expert on his side, Rong Yi was no longer afraid. But just as he was ready to kick the guy again, he noticed that the thief was already down.
In the dim light, Rong Yi could make out Chen Keyao pinning the thief to the floor, expertly restraining him. The thief was still cursing and struggling, but his efforts were futile against a professional.
“Are you alright?” Chen Keyao turned to look at him in the dark. “Are you hurt? Move a bit, let me see.”
Still in shock, Rong Yi froze for a moment before shaking his head. “I’m fine.”
“Then don’t just stand there. Call the police.”
Rong Yi snapped back to reality and quickly reached for his phone by the pillow, but his eyes never left Chen Keyao’s face. The moonlight streamed in through the window, casting a glow on his face, making his skin look especially pale.
But on the side of his fair face, there was a dark streak, which was slowly spreading.
As Rong Yi dialed 110 and relayed the situation to the police, he walked over to the wall and turned on the overhead light. Instantly, he drew in a sharp breath.
On the other end of the line, the dispatcher asked in concern, “Is there another problem?”
“No,” Rong Yi shook his head. “Just… you’d better come quickly. Someone here is injured.”
After hanging up, Chen Keyao looked at him anxiously. “You said you weren’t hurt, right?”
Rong Yi looked at the blood still trickling down Chen Keyao’s cheek and couldn’t help but feel a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
Before the police arrived, Chen Keyao couldn’t move.
His technique was similar to the one he had used last time—pinning the thief down with his hands twisted behind his back, making it impossible for him to move despite his struggles.
“No wonder it was itching a bit,” Chen Keyao muttered, looking down at the thief. “Hey man, where’d you get this knife? It’s pretty sharp.”
Having never done any household chores, he didn’t even recognize his own kitchen knife. Rong Yi wanted to roll his eyes but didn’t have the time.
He paced around in frustration. “Can’t you just knock him out first?”
“That’s not a good idea,” Chen Keyao frowned, looking at the back of the thief’s neck. “What if I accidentally killed him?”
The thief immediately stopped struggling.
Rong Yi didn’t find it funny at all. After a moment’s hesitation, he rushed to the living room and started rummaging through drawers. “Where’s the first aid kit you mentioned?”
“It’s… uh,” Chen Keyao thought for a moment. “In the cabinet next to the sofa?”
Rong Yi opened it and fumed, “What’s with all this junk?”
“Maybe check the opposite side? It’s definitely in the living room somewhere.”
The place looked clean and tidy, but opening any drawer or cabinet revealed a complete mess. It seemed like Chen Keyao’s cleaning philosophy was simply to shove everything out of sight. After rummaging through a few drawers, Rong Yi found a thermometer and a half-empty box of expired cold medicine, but no sign of the so-called first aid kit.
From the room, Chen Keyao called out again, “I’m pretty sure it’s in the cabinet by the sofa. Maybe you should try—”
“Shut up,” Rong Yi snapped without looking up, “I’ll find it myself!”
The living room was fairly large, but there weren’t many storage cabinets. Rong Yi checked each one and soon found the first aid kit.
But before he could open it, the police arrived.
The police praised Chen Keyao for his bravery in disarming the thief, but they also took the opportunity to remind him that no matter how confident he was in his skills, safety should always come first, and he should contact the authorities for help in dangerous situations.
As for the statements, given that it was the middle of the night and Chen Keyao was still bleeding, they could wait until the next day.
After the police left, taking the thief with them, Rong Yi, who had been holding the first aid kit for ages, couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He placed the open kit in front of Chen Keyao, frowning as he asked, “Isn’t this basically an empty box?”
Chen Keyao looked genuinely surprised. “Huh… I thought there used to be a lot of stuff in here. Could the thief have stolen it all?”
Rong Yi was speechless.
The kit was almost barren, containing only a full pack of painkillers, an unopened bottle of iodine, and a box of unused band-aids.
Rong Yi had a strong suspicion that once any items were taken out and used, they never made it back into the box. Who knew where all the gauze and cotton swabs were scattered around the house?
As Rong Yi fumed silently, Chen Keyao gingerly touched his blood-streaked face and frowned visibly.
He looked at his blood-stained hand and said, “…Seems like the bleeding has stopped. It’s probably not that serious, right?”
Rong Yi stared at him without saying a word.
It seemed like the cut was long but not deep, so there was no need to go to the hospital. But even if the bleeding had stopped, the wound still needed to be cleaned and disinfected.
After thinking for a moment, Rong Yi quickly ran back to his room, changed clothes, grabbed his phone, and rushed back out. “Sit there and don’t move. I’ll be right back.”
“Wait,” Chen Keyao was a bit stunned. “There aren’t any 24-hour pharmacies nearby, are there? Maybe I could just use some tissue paper—”
“Sit down!” Rong Yi barked, pointing firmly at the sofa without looking back. “And wait.”
