Chapter 105: Would You Call Dad ‘Baby’ Too?
When Ruan Li left the dressing room, the little girl lying in the crib heard the sound and looked in her direction, her big eyes blinking quietly.
“Oh, you’re awake, Ling Ying!” Ruan Li was a bit surprised because her daughter usually slept for long periods, longer than most kids her age.
The little one snuggled into Ruan Li’s arms, and she held her, placing her phone in front of them. “Ling Ying, wave your hand.”
Still only half comprehending her mom’s words, the curious little girl just stared at the phone screen. Her chubby, cute face filled the screen.
She was almost a year old and still not speaking yet, just babbling softly as she poked her own cheek.
The chat instantly went wild.
“Is it even possible for a human baby to be this adorable?”
“I can’t even imagine how stunning she’ll be when she grows up. Watch out for bad influences!”
“No need to worry. With a top tier family like this, there’s no way she’ll end up with a bad influence. The people around her will all be heirs or high society kids…”
Ruan Li hadn’t thought that far ahead after all, her daughter was still a baby.
“What about Little Jing? Did having a second child make you forget about your eldest?”
Ruan Li frowned slightly at that comment. It was impossible for them to neglect little Jing, who was a high-maintenance baby. She and Fu Huaizhou had never even thought about that. They just took turns playing the good and bad cop with him.
“That commenter is just trying to stir things up… little Jing is old enough to play on his own now.”
Just as this comment appeared, the bedroom door opened, and Fu Chengjing, dressed in his kindergarten uniform, came running in.
This kindergarten was chosen by Fu Huaizhou himself. The uniform was a light blue suspender suit with a yellow cap, and every time Fu Chengjing wore it, Ruan Li couldn’t resist snapping a few photos.
It looked so much like a school trip outfit, incredibly cute.
“Mommy,” Fu Chengjing greeted her first. Since he was still wearing his outer clothes, he didn’t climb onto the bed but leaned on the chair beside it.
Ruan Li found his pose amusing, noticing his wet little hands. “Why didn’t you change your clothes after washing your hands?”
Fu Chengjing had already placed his hands on his sister’s face, his gaze sincere as he looked up at Ruan Li. “Changing takes too long.”
Fu Lingying stared eagerly at her big brother and draped her chubby arm over his shoulder.
“Mommy, are you going out?” Fu Chengjing noticed that she was dressed up, her makeup done, and moved closer to appear on her phone’s screen.
The little boy’s features were just starting to mature a bit, hinting at a resemblance to Fu Huaizhou. His soft babyish look was fading, replaced by clearer and more handsome lines. Long lashes cast shadows on his face as he pursed his lips slightly.
It had been a while since any recent photos of him were publicly shared, so many viewers were very curious.
“Little Jing Baby!”
By now, Fu Chengjing could read quite a few words and easily understood the comments. He frowned at the “baby” nickname.
Seeing his serious but still incredibly adorable expression, Ruan Li chuckled.
“Don’t call me ‘baby.’” Fu Chengjing said with earnestness. “I’m not a baby.”
“Oh my gosh, he’s too cute. Forget makeup giveaways, Ruan Li give us the kids instead!”
“I want Little Jing Baby!”
“Am I the only one who thinks Little Jing looks a bit like Fu Huaizhou? Is this his future CEO phase in the making?”
Ruan Li laughed at the term “CEO phase,” joking along with the comments. “So if little Jing grows up, will it be the making of a future boss?”
Fu Chengjing, watching the screen fill with “Little Jing Baby” comments, was visibly confused. His recently slimmed down cheeks puffed out, and he moved out of the frame, refusing to look at the comments anymore.
Ruan Li was amused by his reaction. When he was younger, he’d get so excited when she called him “Little Jing Baby,” but since starting kindergarten, he didn’t like that nickname as much.
After a while, Ruan Li had to get ready to leave, so she said goodbye to her live-stream audience, “That’s it for today. See you next time!”
The chat was flooded with disappointment.
“So soon! I haven’t seen enough of the little ones!”
“A petition for Ruan Li to join a family variety show, 24-hour livestream!”
“Count me in!!”
Ruan Li remembered how she hadn’t done a show when Fu Chengjing was a baby. Now, looking back, she felt a little regretful since kids grow up fast and start caring about their image. A video record would be something nice for them to look back on.
“I’ll think about it when
Ling Ying can talk and walk. She’s still too young right now.”
After ending the livestream, she noticed that Little Chengjing was still sulking.
“Why can’t I call you that?” Ruan Li was curious and poked Ling Ying’s cheek. “Both of you are my babies.”
“Because my kindergarten teacher asked about nicknames, and when it was my turn, I thought Daddy always called me Fu Chengjing, so it’s not a nickname,” he explained. “But I told her you call me Little Jing Baby, and everyone laughed. They said boys shouldn’t be called ‘baby.’”
Ruan Li couldn’t help but laugh and ruffled his hair. “That’s not true. Boys can be called ‘baby,’ too. Because whether it’s you or your sister, you’re both Mommy’s babies. It’s a term of endearment, not something to be embarrassed about.”
Fu Chengjing, feeling reassured, hugged his sister, who was chewing on her fingers. He kissed her cheeks repeatedly, and the room echoed with kissing sounds. Ling Ying, overwhelmed, gently pushed him away.
“Mommy’s going out to meet Aunt Mianmian, so you’re in charge of watching your sister, okay?” Before leaving, Ruan Li kissed each of her kids on the forehead.
Fu Chengjing nodded solemnly.
Ruan Li wasn’t worried. With the staff around and Fu Chengjing’s careful nature, this was a good chance to foster his sense of responsibility.
That evening, she bumped into Fu Huaizhou just as he came home from work. She was already accustomed to him coming home earlier and earlier, always heading straight for the crib.
“What did you do today?” Fu Huaizhou asked.
“Picked out wedding dresses with Ye Mian. We didn’t find one we liked, and she’s not even satisfied with her own designs.” Ruan Li tossed her handbag into his arms. “I’m so tired.”
Fu Huaizhou leaned down and picked her up, carrying her upstairs. She happily relaxed in his arms.
When he opened the bedroom door, Fu Chengjing was lying on the bed playing with his sister. The sight of the two adorable kids cuddled together was a treat for the eyes. Seeing Dad carrying Mom inside was already a common sight for him probably the same as his sister preferring to be carried instead of walking.
Suddenly, a question he’d been curious about all afternoon popped into his mind. Fu Chengjing stared at his father, who was kneeling on the carpet, helping his mother take off her shoes.
“Mom, would you call Dad ‘baby,’ too?”
