The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret Chapter 18

Chapter 18 Is My Uncle in Love?

Qin Weizhao escorted Jiang Wansheng into his room’s bathroom and placed the suitcase he had brought at the door of his room.

Feeling a secret excitement in his heart, he thought the sister gathering tonight was going to be ruined, but it turned out to take a turn for the better.

Forty minutes later, Jiang Wansheng came out of the bathroom with her hair half-dried.

Qin Weizhao walked over and handed her a bowl of ginger soup, “Although it’s summer now, it’s still good to drink some ginger soup to prevent a cold.”

Jiang Wansheng took it surprisingly, “You can cook ginger soup?”

Qin Weizhao waved his hand, “Impossible, this was made by my uncle.”

She almost choked, even more surprised now.

Qin Weizhao sat cross-legged on the bed, “Take your time to drink. My uncle looks unapproachable, but he’s actually just indifferent and doesn’t care much about anything, so he seems hard to get along with. He’s also quite picky, with high demands on food and everything, so sometimes he cooks for himself to eat better. My uncle is very good at cooking, surprising, right?”

Qin Weizhao raised an eyebrow with a smile, “But my uncle doesn’t cook often. I was also surprised that he made ginger soup for you this time, especially since his mood hasn’t been great since he came over today. But for some reason, his mood improved tonight and he even cooked ginger soup for you. He’s so unpredictable.”

She sipped the ginger soup earnestly, listening carefully, “Uncle is in a bad mood?”

“Yes,” Qin Weizhao replied, “You don’t know, he looked like a storm cloud was hanging over his head all afternoon. I didn’t dare to get close to him, he was sulking all afternoon, feeling so stifled.”

She looked at Qin Weizhao’s wrinkled face, unable to hold back a smile, but still didn’t forget the purpose of her question, “Why is uncle in a bad mood?”

Today, Qin Mo comforted her so seriously, she also wanted to see if she could make him feel better.

Qin Weizhao frowned and thought for a while, “I don’t know either, he definitely won’t tell me. Maybe it’s because… of work? I heard from Lin Tang that my uncle has been very busy with work lately, sleeping less than five hours for several days, maybe he’s just too tired?”

Then she refuted herself, “But why is his mood better in the evening?”

Suddenly, she slapped her thigh, her almond eyes shining with a different light, “I got it! Could it be, could it be.”

Jiang Wansheng was used to her sudden exclamations, “What’s wrong?”

Qin Weizhao mysteriously whispered, “Is my uncle in love?”

The smile on Jiang Wansheng’s face suddenly stiffened, her heart seemed to skip a beat.

Unaware of the momentary stiffness on Jiang Wansheng’s face, Qin Weizhao continued excitedly, “The more I think about it, only being in love can make someone so unpredictable and emotionally volatile. My goodness, my uncle has been solo for so many years, I thought with his picky and solitary nature, he would live a lonely life forever, but unexpectedly someone has caught his eye! Who could it be, to capture my uncle’s attention!”

Jiang Wansheng didn’t know how to describe her feelings at this moment.

She shouldn’t have too much emotional fluctuation about this matter.

When she heard about how busy he had been and lacking sleep these days, her heart felt heavy, she could understand her worry. But when she heard that he might be in love, she felt a sense of loss that she had never experienced before. Even as Qin Weizhao looked at her with a smile, she felt flustered and forced out a smile to conceal the fact that she wasn’t happy.

Why?

Why did she feel upset about this?

Shouldn’t she be happy for him to find happiness?

As Qin Weizhao spoke, her emotions suddenly dropped, and her voice lowered.

Jiang Wansheng looked at her in surprise, seeing her sudden change in demeanor, she rubbed her head, and asked her gently, “What’s wrong, why are you suddenly not happy?”

Qin Weizhao bent down, her voice low, “Although I’m a bit afraid of my uncle, I’ve been raised by him since I was young. My parents travel around the world, and it’s always been my uncle taking care of me.”

“Although he has a bad temper, he really cares for me, I can feel it.”

“Now that he suddenly has a girlfriend, maybe he’ll give all his love to her in the future, and I won’t be able to be as casual with him anymore.” Her tone gradually turned bitter, “Then I’ll just be an outsider to him in the future.”

Jiang Wansheng seemed to be struck by something, completely understanding Qin Weizhao’s emotions. She comforted, “But you will always be your uncle’s niece, you will always be family.”

Qin Weizhao sighed, “I understand my uncle, he’s the type who looks down on everything, but once he sets his sights on something, he won’t let go. If he can’t have it, he might even forcefully take it, he’s domineering and decisive, that’s why he’s called the Third Master Qin, so intimidating. That’s just how he operates.”

“He will definitely love her with all his heart, and I’ll just have to step aside.”

Jiang Wansheng suddenly fell silent.

It was as if she suddenly understood why she felt inexplicably sad.

Just like Qin Weizhao.

A fear of being isolated.

She had always immersed herself in the position of being a superfluous and rejected person since she was young, and her uncle had given her invaluable warmth.

When her uncle had his own family, she wasn’t even his biological niece, she was just an outsider, and she would definitely have to be cautious.

What she received now was all because of her uncle’s consideration for Qin Weizhao. This warmth wouldn’t last long for her…

She needed to set things right.

She was too insignificant to her uncle.

Facing reality, Jiang Wansheng’s sense of loss continued to grow like rampant vines entwining her heart, oppressive and unbearable…

She looked at the white porcelain bowl in her hand, barely coming back to her senses, “Don’t think about it, you will always have a place in your uncle’s heart.”

Unlike her, just a passing cloud.

She took a deep breath, “Don’t be unhappy, I’ll take the bowl downstairs, we can sleep together later.”

Qin Weizhao’s emotions came and went quickly, “Okay, I have a lot to talk to you about.”

Carrying the empty bowl, Jiang Wansheng walked downstairs, her heart still heavy, walking with her head down.

The lights on the first floor had been dimmed, with only the small chandelier hanging above the island counter still emitting a faint yellow light.

The open kitchen and the living room, separated by some distance from the island counter, were slightly illuminated by a few strands of light.

Taking advantage of this light, Jiang Wansheng walked to the kitchen and washed the bowl.

Then she turned around, her steps abruptly stopping in place.

Next to the main living room, there was a small living room with a floor-to-ceiling window, and the moonlight streaming in from outside fell on the man.

He was sitting on the sofa with his legs open, his right hand, adorned with a snake head ring, holding a thin cigarette.

The smoke curled around him.

Jiang Wansheng couldn’t see his outline clearly, but she could sense his unmasked laziness.

The night entwined with the moonlight, the smoke lingering.

The man exuded an irresistible desire that enveloped Jiang Wansheng.
