The Forbidden City’s Sweetest Secret Chapter 34

Chapter 34 Because no one will treat her better than I do.

Qin Mo waited for Jiang Wansheng to calm down before letting her go.

Lin Tang, who had been waiting outside, met Jiang Wansheng as she hurried out and then approached Qin Mo.

“Mr. Qin, the evening party outside hasn’t ended yet, are you still attending?”

Qin Mo thought the girl’s lips were swollen, so she probably wouldn’t dare to go to the party, and he wouldn’t be interested if she wasn’t there.

He checked the time on his wristwatch and said calmly, “Back to the company.”

He had a lot of work piled up that he hadn’t dealt with yet, and he wouldn’t have squeezed in the time if it wasn’t to see the girl.

Lin Tang nodded and added, “There’s a call from the old house, the old man is asking when you’ll go back.”

Upon hearing this, Qin Mo thought for a moment and said, “I’ll go back tomorrow.”

The old man probably knew about the girl’s existence.

That night, Qin Mo returned to the company and worked continuously until four in the morning, then took a short nap in the rest area for a few hours before driving to the old house.

The Qin family’s old house was located in the suburbs, a large courtyard in a new Chinese style.

White walls, black tiles, corridors, and moonlit windows.

Walking through it, there was a sense of Zen.

In the study on the second floor, an elderly man with a sharp mind, despite his advanced age, was currently painting with ease.

Qin Boyan lifted his drooping eyelids and looked at the man sitting in front of him on the carved mahogany chair, letting out an old cold laugh, “Oh, a rare guest.”

Qin Mo casually picked up a cup of clear tea in front of him, took a sip, and said nonchalantly, “Just a month without coming back, and I’m already a guest?”

The old man snorted and said with a hint of resentment, “With one or two not at home, I almost forgot I had a son.”

The eldest son of the Qin family hadn’t come back since the beginning of the year, usually just through video calls; the second son and his family settled in Yuncheng, only coming over during holidays.

The third son hadn’t started a family yet, but he was always busy with work and rarely seen, with only the steward Fubo who had been with him for most of his life.

Although he didn’t say it, he was concerned.

Qin Mo smiled lazily, “I’m not here to see you.” He raised his chin, indicating the box on the table, “I bought you a collection of Hago white stones and Nachi black stones.”

Qin Boyan discreetly glanced at it, coughed, and said, “You’re quite thoughtful.”

Leaning back, Qin Mo lazily played with the tail ring, and said softly, “You didn’t call me here just to see me, don’t beat around the bush, speak directly.”

Qin Boyan neatly put away his brush, set the brush aside, and sat down, “What’s the matter with that little girl?”

He half-closed his eyes and lazily said, “I’m interested in her.”

Qin Boyan sarcastically remarked, “The sun rises from the west, you always act like you’re not interested in anyone, I thought you’d always be like that.”

Resting his elbow on the table, leaning forward, he asked, “What about her caught your eye?”

The girl’s voice and smile flashed through his mind, involuntarily curling his lips slightly, his voice softened, “Everything about her.”

Qin Boyan stared at Qin Mo with cloudy eyes, marveling, unable to stand his lost look, and taunted, “I heard she’s my granddaughter’s classmate, only 21 this year, and you’re 27, following you around calling you uncle, can you really do it?”

He pretended to sigh and shook his head, “Beast.”

“Both of us are the same, your mother was over forty when she got pregnant with me.”

This statement made the old man’s eyebrows and beard jump, “You rascal, you have no filter!”

“Your mother was pestering me to have a child back then, unlike you.” He gave him a stern look and added sharply, “Always in a hurry, and people don’t want it.”

“Paying money to let people play for free, only to be almost taken away by some wild kid out of nowhere, really embarrassing for our old Qin family.”

He was merciless, just like his old man, not holding back at all.

He chuckled nonchalantly, his originally sharp eyes and brows relaxed, appearing cold and lazy.

“Your investigation is quite thorough.”

“But she’s just an undergraduate, you could use some tactics, why make yourself so miserable?” Naturally, Qin’s old man always thought for Qin Mo.

Qin Mo fell silent for a few seconds, “No.”

“What do you mean?”

“I can’t use any means on her, she has her own thoughts. With me, she can be herself.”

Qin Boyan challenged, “Oh, so you disrupted her confession last night and took her away to bully her?”

After a moment of silence, Qin Mo sneered, “I’m just a common man, I can’t always hold back.”

“What if… she doesn’t agree?”

“She will agree.”

He said it with certainty.

The old man found it amusing, “Why is that?”

“Because no one will treat her better than I do.”

Qin Boyan looked at his youngest son and knew why he was so confident.

It wasn’t about disrespecting the beloved girl, or trying to forcibly bind someone with differences in status and position.

It was because he was confident enough to always choose one person and never let go, no matter what she did, he would always be there to support her. The girl lacked a sense of security, and Qin Mo was the person best suited to fill that void.

The old man chuckled, “At your age, you’re still so sentimental.”

“When will you bring her over for me to meet? I’ll have your older and second brothers come over to meet her.”

Qin Mo raised an eyebrow and readily agreed, “Okay.”

Approaching noon, Fubo knocked on the door and entered, “Sir, Third Master, Miss Zhang Rui is here again, waiting in the main hall.”

The old man glanced at Qin Mo and said, “It’s already noon, this girl sure knows how to pick her timing, is lunch ready?”

“It’s ready, do you need to eat now?”

Qin Boyan asked Qin Mo, “Are you staying for lunch today?”

Qin Mo was in a hurry, as there was an international video conference scheduled for lunch, so he couldn’t stay.

“I won’t stay, there’s work at the company, I’ll come back to see you another day.”

Qin Boyan was not pleased, “Always making me wait, my old bones can’t wait for you to come see me, let alone wait for you to give me a grandson.”

After venting his complaints, he turned to Fubo, “Bring that girl over to have lunch with me, it’ll be lively.”

Fubo smiled and nodded.

Qin Boyan sighed, stood up, picked up the cane next to him, and walked out from behind the desk.

As he reached the door, Qin Mo was still sitting there without moving. He turned and tapped the chair leg with his cane, saying irritably, “Remember to rest, even if you take a short break in such a big company, it won’t cause much loss.”

Qin Mo had come in a hurry, with a hint of bluish-green color faintly visible in his eyes, contrasting against his pale skin, which Qin Boyan had noticed when he arrived.

Qin Mo glanced at him, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, “Got it, you take care too.” He stood up and walked to the old man’s side, “I’ll walk with you.”

They left the study and took the elevator to the first floor.

Since the old man had trouble walking, Qin Mo had arranged for an elevator to be installed in the old house.

As they walked towards the dining room, they inevitably passed through the main hall.

The old man liked to watch the fish he raised while eating, so they went through a short water corridor after turning left from the main hall, leading to a platform with a roof, surrounded by beautiful screens, with a large round table in the middle, spacious and quaint.

In the main hall, Zhong Rui heard footsteps and quickly stood up to greet them.

As her eyes met the tall figure, it felt like fireworks were going off in her heart, she was truly overjoyed.

She had brushed up her favor in front of the old man many times during her visits to the Qin residence, but she never expected to run into Qin Mo this time.

Her smile widened on her face, stepping forward gracefully in high heels, she greeted familiarly, “Uncle, I’m here to bother you again.”
