Chapter 54 What kind of person he is, I don’t need others to tell me!
After all, the red mark on her face was still glaringly visible.
The ward was a triple room, with curtains between each bed. Chen Xingran was in the innermost position by the window. Jiang Wansheng looked over, and the lively and active little girl now lay pale on the bed.
She asked, “What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said that this osteochondroma is a common benign tumor in childhood. Xingran found it early, and there is no malignancy. She was admitted to the hospital for examination yesterday and will have surgery tomorrow,” Luo Muyan said with a smile.
“It’s not that serious, actually. Look, she can’t move now, but her appetite is good,” Chen He didn’t seem too concerned. “How is it not serious? Xingran’s right ankle is swollen like that. How can growing a tumor be a small matter?” He smiled and looked at Jiang Wansheng. “Isn’t that right, Wansheng?”
Jiang Wansheng didn’t respond to his words. “Just listen to the doctor, I can’t judge.”
Chen He’s face stiffened, and his expression became somewhat unpleasant.
“Xingran,” Jiang Wansheng walked to the bedside.
“Sister, my dad said you were at the hospital yesterday. Why didn’t you come to see me?” Chen Xingran tentatively held her hand and asked softly.
Both Luo Muyan and Chen He were stunned.
Yesterday’s ridiculous misunderstanding, both of them played important roles in it. They intended to pass over it lightly, but Chen Xingran’s unintentional childish words tore apart this hypocritical calm.
“Oh, sister, is your face injured?” Chen Xingran exclaimed softly.
Jiang Wansheng’s face softened, and she held her hand back. “Is it? I thought no one could see it.”
“How can’t it be seen? You’re so fair, it’s very obvious,” Chen Xingran retorted crisply.
Out of the corner of her eye, Luo Muyan saw Jiang Wansheng’s face alternating between blue and red, and a hint of satisfaction darkly emerged within her.
But along with it, there was a stronger sense of sadness.
“Are you afraid of the surgery?” She sat on the bed, stroked Chen Xingran’s forehead, her voice gentle like cotton candy, soft and soothing.
Chen Xingran actually liked Jiang Wansheng very much, for no special reason, just because she was beautiful and had a pleasant voice.
Her personality was also very gentle. Since she could remember, whatever she wanted to do, her sister would indulge her, and whatever she wanted, her sister would give her.
But since her sister went to high school and chose to live on campus, she had less contact with her.
Dad always said it was more relaxing when her sister wasn’t at home, but she didn’t think so. Dad even thought she was silly because of it.
“A little bit.” After all, she was young, how could she not be afraid.
Jiang Wansheng comforted softly, “That’s normal, but Xingran is already very brave.”
“Sister, can you come to accompany me during my surgery tomorrow? If you come to be with me, I won’t be afraid.” She held Jiang Wansheng’s hands with both of hers, acting coquettishly.
Chen He quickly added, “Yes, yes, Xingran is also your sister. You can’t not come when she’s having surgery.”
Jiang Wansheng furrowed her brows slightly.
She could come, and she would.
But Chen He seemed to be appealing to her sentimentally but actually forcing her to come, which made her very uncomfortable.
She turned her head, still smiling, but with a coldness in her eyes, “Uncle, when did you start wanting me to accompany Xingran so much?”
Chen He was shocked by her expression.
After half a second, he reacted and cursed inwardly that Jiang Wansheng had indeed grown more audacious since arriving in the capital, daring to mock him.
If it weren’t for Luo Muyan apologizing to Jiang Wansheng yesterday, he wouldn’t bother pretending to be polite today.
“My work really can’t do without me. I couldn’t get time off, so after Xingran’s surgery tomorrow, I have to go back. By then, I’ll have to trouble you to take care of Xingran,” Chen He’s words were polite, but his tone was firm.
“Your mom can’t handle it alone, and you happen to be on vacation. You can’t just watch your mom busy by herself. Besides, Xingran is also your sister, and she likes you so much. It’s reasonable for you to stay,” Jiang Wansheng listened coldly, her dazzling features covered in a thin layer of frost, her detachment gradually revealed.
She lightly pursed her lips and said, “Too busy, you can hire a caregiver.”
Chen He’s eyebrows twitched, “But that costs money!”
“Uncle Chen,” she stood up and stood in front of Luo Muyan and Chen He, “If you just want to deceive me into coming to be a free labor force, you can just say it directly. There’s no need to beat around the bush.”
Ignoring Chen He’s gradually darkening expression, she continued, “After all, we are *family*, why can’t we speak directly?”
If he wanted to morally blackmail her with “family,” then he shouldn’t blame her for making him uncomfortable with “family.”
“Is this how you see me?”
“You treat me the way I treat you,” she spoke calmly, each word clear and forceful.
She could have continued to deceive them, but yesterday’s slap and today’s pretentious facade suddenly made her unable to bear it.
Chen He was speechless, only his eyes, filled with shrewdness, were brimming with anger.
Luo Muyan remained silent for a long time, finally coming out to mediate, “What’s wrong with you two, arguing in front of Xingran?”
“I can handle it by myself. You should focus on your work. If you have something to do, just go ahead and do it, don’t force yourself,” she said.
Jiang Wansheng felt the room was suffocating and no longer wanted to stay.
“I have my own things to do. I can come if it doesn’t conflict with my studies.”
“But not because of you.”
With these words dropped, she walked over to the slightly startled Chen Xingran, softened her tone, “I will come when you have surgery tomorrow. Rest well.”
After saying that, she took steps to leave.
Just as she stepped out, Luo Muyan followed.
She pulled her to a secluded corridor, looking hesitant to speak.
Suppressing her impatience, Jiang Wansheng asked, “Is there something else?”
“Today…”
“If it’s about what just happened, there’s no need to mention it.”
“No… it’s about yesterday.”
Jiang Wansheng’s expression remained neutral, waiting for her to continue.
“The man who pursued you, Mom saw his photo online today. He’s the boss of the Qin family.” She spoke with a touch of concern.
“You’ve been in the capital for so long, you should know better about the status of the Qin family than Mom. I saw online that he’s heartless and ruthless, a man like him is not someone from our humble background can afford to provoke.”
“He may have said nice things yesterday, but who knows if he says the same to every girl your age. Don’t be fooled just because of a moment of confusion. With his wealth, he can’t possibly have only one woman like you.”
“He’s probably best at deceiving…”
“Mom!”
Jiang Wansheng interrupted directly.
“I don’t need your care now that I’ve grown up. I’m more clear-headed than anyone else.”
“It was you and Dad who taught me that relying on anyone will not end well, right?”
Luo Muyan opened her mouth weakly but couldn’t utter a word.
“I don’t need others to tell me what kind of person he is. I have eyes to judge for myself. Please, in the future, don’t speak ill of him in front of me.”
Regardless of the eventual outcome between them, Qin Mo’s help and care for her were undeniably healing.
And the person in front of her, whom she called mother, had never done that.
What right did she have to judge Qin Mo?
Luo Muyan seemed somewhat hurt, “Mom, is it someone else?”
The corridor was very quiet, the pure white walls contrasting with the bleak atmosphere at the moment, mirroring the emotional state between the mother and daughter.
Pale, like ashes.
A few seconds later, Jiang Wansheng’s calm voice rang out.
“You pushed me away yourself.”
