Chapter 2 : I Want to Marry

Jiang Yu, holding a bowl of syrup, twitched her mouth slightly. Regardless of anything else, even if she became famous, it wouldn’t be for anything good.

She was pretty, but lazy and greedy.

Wang Meili, however, took it seriously and started boasting “Forget everything else, just my two daughters alone are worth talking about. They’re definitely beautiful. Hardworking and capable, they excel at all household chores.”

Jiang Yu: “…” She felt a bit guilty just listening.

She didn’t join the conversation, just sat to the side and listened.

Soon, Jiang Ting came in with breakfast, carrying coarse grain steamed buns and eggs.

“Mom, breakfast is ready.”

Wang Meili was busy getting close with matchmaker Yao and didn’t notice Jiang Yu sneakily taking an egg.

Peeling the eggshell, her delicate, fair fingers held the egg, and it was hard to tell who was whiter and more tender, her or the egg.

Matchmaker Yao looked at her and nodded secretly in her heart.

Not only was she fair and beautiful, but her figure was also slim like a willow branch, with just enough curves in the right places.

Her chest was full, and though her bottom wasn’t particularly big, it was firm and well-shaped.

Based on her decades of matchmaking experience, this girl was definitely a gem.

Too bad she was born in the countryside.

Looking at Jiang Ting, if the sister was beautiful, the younger sister must be just as good.

But Jiang Ting was skinnier, looking like a stick, with darker skin.

Her face was lovely but bore a hint of hidden sorrow, giving her a somewhat bitter expression that lacked her sister’s charm.

Jiang Yu didn’t notice her gaze and divided the egg, offering half to Jiang Ting.

Jiang Ting shook her head, pursing her lips, refusing to take it.

So Jiang Yu ate it herself.

After observing enough, Matchmaker Yao spoke up “I have a young man in mind, he specifically wants to find a partner from the countryside. I did some digging and came here without invitation.”

Wang Meili was somewhat skeptical “Why would a guy from the city want a girl from the countryside?”

Matchmaker Yao smiled “Don’t worry, this family is good. His name is Fu Xiangyang, a mechanic at the State Cotton Factory. His parents are both alive, he has an older sister who’s already married, and a younger sister who’s around seventeen or eighteen. His father used to work at the factory, then transferred to the flour mill. Their family is one of the rare dual-income households!”

With this, Wang Meili became even more intrigued.

The older sister was married off, and the younger sister was of marriageable age, with no other brothers in the family.

From now on, if her daughter put in some effort, she might even help Jiang Hao get a job, allowing her son to eat better food!

“But Fu Xiangyang, you see, he was born premature and has some weaknesses. He’s a bit frail. Of course, he doesn’t have any major issues, just can’t handle strenuous labor, but everything else is fine!”

Wang Meili covered her mouth, laughing as if Fu Xiangyang was already her son-in-law.

“That’s not a big deal, he’s a skilled worker and doesn’t need to do heavy labor anyway!”

Jiang Yu pursed her lips. That was indeed a big problem, he wouldn’t be able to manage.

She felt a wave of anxiety, if they went to meet, Wang Meili would definitely make her go.

Hearing such good conditions, her parents would never let it slip away.

How could she escape this?

“I first mentioned your daughter to his family, and they agreed, which is why I came here. If your family agrees, you can meet right away, and soon your daughter will be a city girl!”

Wang Meili’s eyes lit up, filled with endless dreams.

“Agree! This is a great opportunity, how could we not agree?”

Matchmaker Yao smiled in satisfaction, that was exactly what she wanted to hear.

This was like a windfall, how could they possibly refuse?

“Then you need to decide quickly which daughter to marry off, so I can go back and talk to them.”

Wang Meili paused, of course it would be Jiang Yu, who else could it be?

She looked at the pair of twins. The sisters not only looked different but also had completely different personalities.

The older sister was beautiful, but the younger one was more diligent.

With Jiang Yu’s lazy and greedy nature, if she were to go for a meeting, who knows if she would be looked down upon?

If a good match was lost, it would be a huge loss.

Jiang Yu was worried, she didn’t want to meet Fu Xiangyang at all.

She wanted to marry a healthy man, settle down, and have children, not raise someone else’s kids.

At that moment, she saw Jiang Ting suddenly stand up.

“I want to marry!”

Jiang Yu was taken aback, looking up in shock.

This was not like Jiang Ting at all.

Jiang Ting didn’t look at her, it was as if she was holding back something, or had made a momentous decision.

“Mom, Grandma Yao, can I marry him?” Jiang Ting swallowed hard.

Finally saying those words made her feel both excited and nervous.

She had never thought she would get another chance.

In her previous life, after Jiang Yu married Fu Xiangyang, it wasn’t long before Jiang Hao brought his girlfriend home, demanding a bride price of three hundred yuan.

The family couldn’t come up with that much money, so they married her off to a fool in exchange for the bride price.

After marrying the fool, she had three children, but her in-laws passed away one after another, leaving the burden of the household on her shoulders.

She had to support five people all by herself, especially since the fool couldn’t take care of himself and constantly caused trouble that she had to clean up.

In contrast, Jiang Yu had married into the city and was living a good life.

The two sisters, sharing the same mother, had turned into a contrasting pair.

At the moment of her previous life’s end, her envy and jealousy of Jiang Yu had reached a peak, filled with resentment, she was reborn.

This time, she was determined to seize the opportunity to marry into the city and have Jiang Yu marry the fool!

Wang Meili, though surprised, didn’t refuse.

“Of course! What’s wrong with that?” Marrying anyone was still marriage.

She thought that after Jiang Ting got married, perhaps Fu Xiangyang could introduce a worker from the same factory to Jiang Yu.

If both daughters married city folks, it would be quite impressive.

“Auntie, we’ve decided! Let’s send my younger daughter to the meeting!”

Since this was the parents’ decision, Matchmaker Yao naturally had no objections.

She just felt it was a pity for Jiang Yu, such good looks should not be wasted on a country bumpkin.

Matchmaker Yao smiled as she stood up. “Alright, I’ll head back. Once I set a time, I’ll send someone to deliver the news.”

Wang Meili respectfully saw her off, slipping her a dollar.

She felt a bit of pain parting with the money, but thought it was worth it to get Jiang Ting married into the city.

“Thank you for making this trip, Auntie.”

Matchmaker Yao smiled even brighter. “Don’t worry, this matter is almost settled!”

Jiang Ting would be fine, Fu Xiangyang would definitely find her appealing.

After seeing off Matchmaker Yao, Wang Meili finally stopped smiling and looked at Jiang Ting with satisfaction.

“Let’s go to the city today and buy you two new outfits. If you’re going for a meeting, you can’t be wearing old clothes.”

Since there wasn’t enough time to make new clothes from scratch, it was better to buy ready-made ones.

Wang Meili rarely treated this daughter generously.

The sisters had grown up wearing hand-me-downs from their cousin.

The only pretty dress Jiang Yu had was made from fabric given by their aunt in the city, Yao Xiangling.

Jiang Ting was very happy, remembering that in her previous life, Jiang Yu had also bought new clothes for her meeting with Fu Xiangyang.

“Mom, can I take my older sister with me?”

It was time for Jiang Yu to feel a bit envious of her.

Wang Meili had no objections, thinking it was good for Jiang Yu to have more chances to visit the city and meet city folks.
