Chapter 6 : Seeing Each Other
When Jiang Yu arrived at Yao Xiangling’s side, she saw her talking to Matchmaker Yao.
What a coincidence! This time, she came specifically to find the matchmaker.
“Grandma Yao!”
Matchmaker Yao looked up, it was hard to forget such an outstanding beauty.
“Isn’t this Jiang Yu? You’re here to accompany your sister on a blind date, right?”
Good-looking people naturally have a privilege. Yao the matchmaker usually ignored others, but was quite warm to Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu nodded, smiling sweetly.
“I don’t need to accompany Jiang Ting, I’m here to see my aunt.”
“Aunt?” Matchmaker Yao paused, suddenly realizing and patting Yao Xiangling.
“The neice you mentioned earlier is Jiang Yu, right?”
Yao Xiangling was also here to introduce a match for Jiang Yu.
What a coincidence!
Yao Xiangling shot a glance at Jiang Yu with annoyance. “Her? She’s got the looks, but her brain isn’t very sharp.”
With such a good opportunity right in front of her, she gave it up for Jiang Ting.
Jiang Yu hooked her arm around Yao Xiangling’s and pouted, “Aunt, why do you say that about me?”
Having known Yao Xiangling for decades, Matchmaker Yao looked at Jiang Yu with more affection.
It was rare to see a friend’s child she wanted to help.
“Since she’s your family, I’ll certainly think it over.”
Yao the matchmaker went through the suitable bachelors she had met recently and found a match.
“There’s a male worker named Sun Zailiang, also a mechanic at the No. 2 Cotton Factory, living in the same courtyard as Fu Xiangyang. Would you like to meet him?”
As a worker with a stable job, Jiang Yu was naturally interested.
“Right now?”
Yao Xiangling replied, “Good men aren’t as common as cabbage waiting to be picked, so we must act quickly. If you find him suitable, then you can settle down.”
With that, Jiang Yu decided to go immediately!
Matchmaker Yao led her to the workers’ family compound of the No. 2 Cotton Factory.
The factory and the family compound were separated by a wide road.
Entering the compound through an alley led to a network of winding streets.
The compound housed hundreds of families.
Space was tight, and the city itself was crowded, yet many still wanted to come here.
“There are seven households in this courtyard, the two in the north are your brother-in-law’s family and the Sun family. Stay here while I go in and call for him.”
Otherwise, if she brought Jiang Yu in and got surrounded right away, it wouldn’t look good for her if things didn’t work out.
Jiang Yu waited at the door for a while, and soon she saw Matchmaker Yao come out.
“Ah! What bad luck, he’s not home.”
Jiang Yu felt a bit disappointed. “He’s not here?”
Matchmaker Yao quickly comforted her, “Don’t worry, I’ll think of more options, there are plenty.”
She frowned, carefully searching for suitable candidates.
Jiang Yu felt an inexplicable curiosity about the courtyard but was disappointed that a wall blocked her view.
Just as she was about to pull back her half-extended body, she lost her balance and stumbled backward.
She didn’t fall out, instead, her back bumped into a solid embrace, and strong arms steadied her arms.
Jiang Yu’s mind went blank, warmth radiated from the person behind her.
Her lips parted slightly as she looked up and unexpectedly found herself staring into a pair of deep, calm eyes.
“Comrade, can you stand steady?”
The man’s voice was as steady as his demeanor, with little fluctuation as he subtly created some distance between them.
Jiang Yu’s first impression of him was that he was tall and handsome.
She was wearing a pair of low-heeled shoes, standing at 168 cm, but looking ahead, all she could see was his well-defined chest muscles hidden beneath a thin shirt.
As her gaze moved up, she was met with a sharp, handsome face.
However, he seemed too cold, his piercing eyes were like a deep pool, making it hard for her to read him.
“Have you had enough of looking?” The man’s voice shifted, now laced with a hint of sarcasm.
Jiang Yu’s cheeks flushed slightly as she averted her gaze.
“Sorry.”
He walked straight inside, ignoring Jiang Yu.
But she couldn’t help but follow him with her eyes, her heart racing, her ears turning red.
“Matchmaker Yao, who is he?”
Her voice softened a little, and Matchmaker Yao could easily see Jiang Yu’s feelings.
“Dear, Matchmaker Yao wouldn’t steer you wrong. If he were suitable, I would have introduced you from the start.”
Jiang Yu’s face flushed again, fidgeting as she said, “I didn’t mean it like that, I was just asking.”
Yao the matchmaker chuckled. “Alright, he’s the head of the security department at the No. 2 Cotton Factory, He Tingyue.”
Jiang Yu was surprised. “The head? He looks so young!”
“He’s in his late twenties, so it’s not that young. He was in the army before, then transitioned to the factory’s security department.”
Initially, he started as a deputy, and when the former head retired after a couple of years, he got promoted.
Jiang Yu felt a wave of disappointment. With such a position, even if he wasn’t married, he wouldn’t be interested in her.
Coming to terms with reality, she asked Yao the matchmaker to think of more suitable bachelors.
Matchmaker Yao smiled, enjoying the conversation with someone as clear-headed as Jiang Yu.
“There is! Another man named Yan Wenxuan, a substitute teacher at a middle school.”
A substitute teacher meant he wasn’t a permanent employee.
But in the city, jobs were scarce, even if one opened up, competition was fierce.
Getting a temporary position was already quite good.
Matchmaker Yao led Jiang Yu to another location.
On the way, she briefly explained about Yan Wenxuan’s family.
His family was quite simple, just three people, he was an only child.
“Why didn’t he take his father’s job?” Jiang Yu asked.
Matchmaker Yao didn’t hide the truth. “His father is a sanitation worker, and most young people today don’t want to do that.”
In fact, the pay for sanitation workers wasn’t bad, it was just seen as undignified.
Yan Wenxuan initially planned to attend vocational school after finishing middle school to secure a job.
But he didn’t pass the entrance exam and barely managed to attend a high school.
Now he couldn’t go to college, and graduating high school wasn’t very useful.
After two years at home, he finally found a way to work as a substitute teacher at a school.
Jiang Yu didn’t mind, as long as he had decent character and looks, she wouldn’t be picky.
When they arrived at the Yan family’s home, Matchmaker Yao called out.
A middle-aged woman stepped out, her face stern and somewhat harsh.
Seeing it was Matchmaker Yao, she managed to force a smile.
“Auntie, what brings you here?”
Matchmaker Yao replied, “Yan Mei, I found a suitable girl for your Wenxuan. How about letting him come out to meet her?”
Zhong Yanmei raised her eyebrows. “Wenxuan isn’t home, but you can bring the girl over to see me.”
Matchmaker Yao sighed inwardly, it was unfortunate that neither were home today.
She waved to Jiang Yu, “Jiang Yu, come over!”
