From Fiancée to Slum : A Tale of Loss Chapter 23

Chapter 23 : You are such a good person

Jiang Yu listened and listened, but still couldn’t figure out what He Feiyan wanted her to do.

“Just say it directly. What do you want me to do?”

He Feiyan replied, “What that teacher did to my friend, you should do to him.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yu realized that she was being asked to go out and swindle money.

“You think too highly of me! I can’t pull that off!”

He Feiyan whispered, “That Yan Wenxuan is a lecher. He can’t resist a pretty woman. I didn’t tell you before, but most of the money he took from me wasn’t even spent on his girlfriend, it was spent on another female colleague.”

This female colleague was just an ordinary person, but she was pretty.

With this comparison, He Feiyan became even angrier.

Both were women and neither had a defined relationship, yet some women could get men to spend money on them, while she could only give money to men.

“But she’s not even as pretty as you, nor does she have a better figure. With looks like yours, you could walk him around like a dog.”

He Feiyan didn’t actually want Jiang Yu to scam a lot of money, she just wanted to get her own money back.

After everything was done, giving Jiang Yu thirty yuan as a reward wouldn’t be a loss.

“This isn’t hard at all, with your looks, it should be effortless! Jiang Yu, I’m begging you, please help me out, or I really won’t be able to get over this!”

Jiang Yu narrowed her eyes. “Why not just ask your brother to help you?”

Mentioning He Tingyue made He Feiyan shrink back.

“How could I dare tell my brother! He won’t let me date at school. If he finds out, he’ll definitely break my legs!”

Jiang Yu asked, “So why are you coming to me?”

He Feiyan smiled, “For two reasons. First, you’re pretty, I’m not joking, that Yan Wenxuan is a total lecher!”

“And the second?”

“I want to be clear that I wasn’t eavesdropping. I heard your conversation with Xie Fei fei because you were talking openly. I know your parents don’t treat you well, and you want to stay in the city to work, you definitely need money!”

He Feiyan blinked her long eyelashes, a bit sheepish.

Thirty yuan might not be enough for a job, but it wasn’t insignificant, money is always earned by saving.

The hundred thirty yuan she gave to Yan Wenxuan was also hard-earned.

Jiang Yu chuckled, “You have sharp ears. I really do need money, quite a lot.”

He Feiyan flashed a flattering smile. “So I’m bringing you money now!”

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, contemplating.

She had never swindled money from a man before; it would be somewhat difficult for her.

But it was worth a try.

“Where does this substitute teacher work?”

“Third Middle School, right next to ours.”

Jiang Yu frowned, muttering, “Third Middle School, Yan Wenxuan?”

She felt the name was familiar, as if she had heard it somewhere.

Jiang Yu asked, “How do I approach him?”

He Feiyan was overjoyed, knowing that Jiang Yu had agreed.

“He has class tomorrow morning. He usually rides away on his bike right after class, around nine-thirty. Just look for a clean-cut man in a white shirt who approaches you, that must be him!”

He Feiyan was so sure because she knew Yan Wenxuan very well.

Most men wouldn’t be as shameless as he was.

Jiang Yu nodded, “I’m only responsible for getting the money back. If anything happens afterward, you have to take responsibility.”

He Feiyan patted her chest. “Don’t worry, I have my brother!”

But she would never dare let He Tingyue know about this unless it was absolutely necessary.

So, Jiang Yu felt that what she said was somewhat unreliable.

When she got home, she found that Yao Xiangling was still awake.

“Where have you been? Why are you back so late?” Yao Xiangling’s expression wasn’t good.

It was understandable for her to worry, with Jiang Yu’s looks, a young woman not returning home could easily get into trouble.

Jiang Yu then explained what happened with Xie Fei fei and Zhao Qing.

“I had dinner at Uncle and Auntie’s house last time, so I couldn’t just ignore this situation.”

She wasn’t the type to meddle in others’ affairs.

If it had been someone else today, she definitely wouldn’t have stuck her neck out.

Yao Xiangling relaxed slightly. “You did the right thing, you should help. True friends treat each other sincerely. If you treat her well, she’ll treat you well too.”

Jiang Yu intentionally left out the matter regarding He Feiyan, knowing that Yao Xiangling would disapprove.

After showering and sitting on her bed to dry her hair, Jiang Yu finally realized why the name Yan Wenxuan sounded familiar.

Previously, Yao matchmaker had brought her to his home for an introduction, and she had been ridiculed by Yan Wenxuan’s mother.

She said her son was dating the principal’s daughter and looked down on country folk.

Now that she thought about it, all this information fit together perfectly.

After drying her hair halfway, she lay on her bed and looked out at the moonlight through the window, gradually falling asleep.

The next day, Jiang Yu arrived at the Third Middle School right on time, pretending to wait for someone.

As expected, just as He Feiyan had predicted, a bicycle suddenly stopped in front of her, and the man on it was wearing a white shirt.

The man was indeed fair-skinned and handsome, tall and slender.

However, Jiang Yu didn’t find him “handsome” or “dashing” rather, she sensed a hint of grease in his smile.

“Comrade,” Yan Wenxuan flicked the bangs off his forehead, “Are you waiting for someone?”

Jiang Yu’s long eyelashes fluttered like little fans, her eyes clear and innocent.

Even though it was still before ten o’clock, Jiang Yu was already sweating.

Yan Wenxuan could only think of one adjective: pure as a lotus.

He couldn’t hide his amazement; he couldn’t believe he had just discovered such a beautiful woman today.

“I’m here to deliver textbooks for my sister. I came out and found there didn’t seem to be a bus stop outside.”

Yan Wenxuan immediately smiled, gently asking, “Where are you headed? I can give you a ride!”

Jiang Yu replied, “I want to go to the department store to buy something, but it’s inconvenient to ride with you. Can you tell me where the bus stop is?”

Yan Wenxuan shook his head. “There’s no bus stop near these two schools. The department store isn’t far, I can take you there.”

Jiang Yu was reserved and reluctant to ride with him, so he got off his bike and walked alongside her.

His eager demeanor truly confirmed He Feiyan’s words, it felt like he was being walked like a dog.

Jiang Yu barely mentioned her own matters, but Yan Wenxuan began to introduce himself voluntarily.

If Jiang Yu hadn’t stopped him in time, he would have started introducing his family members.

When they reached the department store, Jiang Yu smiled brightly.

“Thank you for bringing me here, Comrade Yan. You’re really a good person!”

At that moment, Yan Wenxuan felt as if everything else faded away; all he could see was Jiang Yu’s smiling face.

His heart seemed to be pounding in his ears, thump, thump, racing quickly.

“Comrade Jiang, I… I’m very familiar with the department store. Let me show you around!”
