Chapter 41 : You’re Not My Type
Jiang Yu didn’t go to find He Tingyue immediately. Instead, the next morning, she first went to see Xie Fei fei.
“I heard from my aunt that you came to see me yesterday.”
Xie Fei fei had heard about her situation and immediately asked for leave from the team leader to visit Jiang Yu at her aunt’s house.
Seeing that she was fine, Xie Fei fei finally felt relieved.
“I was so scared! You weren’t hurt, were you? I heard from He Feiyan that the police came yesterday and took Jiang Ting away.”
The Fu family had been trying to find out what happened but couldn’t uncover the details.
They only knew it was serious, especially after Du Tianxiong’s involvement in trying to protect the criminals, Director Zhao was keeping a close eye on the matter.
“I wasn’t hurt, I was just frightened.”
The warmth and care that Jiang Yu had never experienced from her family were felt in Xie Fei fei, making her feelings a bit complicated.
“Thank you, Fei fei.”
Xie Fei fei frowned. “Why are you thanking me? I can’t really do anything for you.”
Being a girl herself, she could empathize.
If something like this happened to her, she probably wouldn’t be as calm as Jiang Yu.
“He Feiyan told me that besides Jiang Ting, your brother was also taken in. Your parents definitely won’t let this go.”
Who knows, they might already be on their way to the city.
At that point, Jiang Yu would have no choice but to release them.
“It’s unrealistic to send Jiang Ting and Jiang Hao to prison, you might as well think about using this opportunity to negotiate with your parents.”
Jiang Yu looked at her in surprise. “How did you come up with that?”
Xie Fei fei smiled awkwardly. “I told my mom about your situation, and she suggested this idea.”
If Jiang Ting and Jiang Hao were really sent to prison, it would tarnish Jiang Yu’s reputation.
She still wanted to get married in the future, if her reputation was ruined, who would dare to marry her?
It was better to take the opportunity to ask for some benefits and gain the upper hand.
In fact, this idea was similar to what Jiang Yu was already thinking.
She would never let go of the two from the Du family, but Jiang Ting and Jiang Hao could be discussed later.
“I want to buy something to thank Section Chief He for saving me yesterday.”
Xie Fei fei immediately said, “A new batch of apples just arrived in Guozi City, and they’re really fresh.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yu realized she had to hurry, or they might be sold out.
“Okay, I’ll go buy some.”
After all, it was a gift for someone who saved her life, so she had to be willing to spend money.
After buying the apples, Jiang Yu headed toward the courtyard.
At the entrance, she spotted Duan Yuzhen.
The two had met briefly during a job examination, so they were somewhat acquainted.
Duan Yuzhen noticed Jiang Yu carrying the apples and approached out of curiosity.
“Are you here to see Jiang Ting? She was taken away by the police, didn’t you know?”
Jiang Yu replied calmly, “I know, but I’m not here for Jiang Ting. I came to see Section Chief He.”
Duan Yuzhen frowned, clearly displeased with her actions.
“What do you want with Brother He?”
Jiang Yu didn’t want to engage with her too much, but the tone of her questioning made her feel a bit mischievous.
“He helped me, so I’m here to thank him.”
Duan Yuzhen scoffed, “Don’t try to find excuses to see Brother He. He won’t pay attention to you. I heard from Jiang Ting that you want to stay in the city to get married, so you should just focus on finding a man instead of having your sights on Brother He, you can’t afford it.”
Jiang Yu smiled slightly, “If I don’t try, how will I know if I can afford it? At least I still have a chance. Comrade Duan, you’ve been trying for years without any success, I guess you have no chance at all.”
Duan Yuzhen’s face flushed with anger as she stomped her foot.
“You’re shameless!”
Jiang Yu tilted her head with a smile, “Being reserved won’t help in getting married. Do you know what Section Chief He did for me? A life-saving grace deserves a reward.”
Duan Yuzhen was furious, and upon seeing Jiang Yu’s face, she almost lost her mind and raised her hand to hit her.
“Duan Yuzhen.”
Hearing He Tingyue’s voice suddenly made her come back to her senses, and she unwillingly retracted her hand.
“Hmph!” She turned and ran into the house.
Jiang Yu turned to see He Tingyue, her eyes brightening.
“Comrade He!”
She felt a bit uneasy, unsure of how much He Tingyue had heard.
It really was bad luck, he always seemed to catch her in embarrassing moments.
He Tingyue maintained his cold demeanor, “What are you here for?”
Jiang Yu, as if presenting a treasure, handed over the large, red apples.
“I bought these to thank you for helping me yesterday.”
He Tingyue glanced at her, his clear eyes shining as if the gloom of the previous day had been dispelled.
The conflicting emotions in his mind began again.
He turned his face away, looking even more stern.
When to cut ties, one should do so decisively without hesitation.
“Take them back. I don’t eat apples.”
Jiang Yu’s smile slowly faded as she pressed her lips together.
“What do you eat? I can go buy something else.”
He Tingyue replied, “No need.”
Jiang Yu’s lips trembled, and a wave of sourness rose in her throat.
She had thought that after yesterday, their distance would close a bit.
“Yesterday,” he spoke again, “I would help anyone in your situation, so don’t take it to heart. It’s not a matter of saving a life, it’s my duty.”
Jiang Yu bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes.
She understood this was already a rejection.
Yet, she couldn’t help but ask again.
“Is there… nothing special about it?”
“There isn’t.”
He Tingyue didn’t look at her but could hear the tremor in her voice.
Having seen her cry yesterday, he could easily picture her with red-rimmed eyes.
“Comrade Jiang, you don’t need to waste your efforts in the future. I’m not considering personal matters right now, and you’re not my type.”
With a dull thud, it felt as if Jiang Yu’s head had been struck hard, ringing in her ears.
Such a blunt rejection made her previous persistence feel especially embarrassing.
She bit her lower lip hard to prevent herself from sobbing.
Jiang Yu lowered her head and placed the apples on the ground.
“I’m sorry to disturb you for so long. These apples were sent by my aunt to express her gratitude, I won’t bother you anymore.”
This was already Jiang Yu’s limit.
No matter how much she liked someone, she was still a woman with her own pride and self-respect.
This was her last attempt.
Duan Yuzhen, who had been watching from the window, almost burst out laughing.
Seeing Jiang Yu like this, it was clear she had been rejected.
Suddenly, she felt more confident, realizing she might not be entirely out of the game.
Duan Yuzhen tidied her clothes and hair, walking out with a beaming smile.
“Brother He…”
However, before she could finish her sentence, He Tingyue took the apples and went back inside, slamming the door.
Duan Yuzhen’s face contorted with anger.
Xu Lihua poked her head out from the house. “Yuzhen, did someone come to our courtyard just now? What were you doing at Xiao He’s door?”
Duan Yuzhen forced a smile, “Nothing, just discussing something with Feiyan.”
